I'm not sure why he needs to outplay Kreider "by a wide margin." If the kid is as good as an eight year vet right out of camp, sign me up. Put him with Mika and lets roll 3 good lines, with a vet leader on each.
I have my doubts if he will be as good as a 8 year vet right out of camp, but that is another story. Krieder is the incumbent. He needs to be outplayed and not just be neck in neck in a race. The Rangers will be prioritizing making the playoffs next year. I think that will go beyond seeing if a rookie can play in the top-6 in a position that has 1) an elite player and 2) an established bona fide top liner.

- Agent: 10-12 teams with legitimate interest, sorting through options
- speculates Vegas as a possibility if they could move cap
- thinks free agent market might be worse next year, wonders if two-year deal might make more sense for Haula

No mention of Haula waiting around for the Strome arbitration.

Thank you, kind sir

I don't think Minnesota is third (I would say NJ or Ottawa is 3 after us and LA) but they have nice top end pieces. Frankly they had about as good a draft as one could have a couple weeks ago

Kaprizov also must be weighted heavily in that guys ranking.

Ok, Mike. We can go through the entire league if you'd like. The bolded are the only possibilities:

1. Boston - Rask and Halak
2. Tampa - Vasilevsky
3. Toronto - Freddie Anderson at $5m already; no cap space
4. Florida - Bobrovsky
5. Montreal - Carey Price
6. Buffalo - Tire Fire
7. Ottawa - Tire Fire
8. Detroit - Tire Fire
9. Washington - Holtby and Samsonov
10. Philadelphia - Carter Hart
11. Pittsburgh - Murray and Jarry
12. Carolina - Mrazek and Reimer; only an option if we take a goalie back / attach an asset as their owner does not want to spend on goaltending
13. Islanders - lol no
14. Columbus - 2 young quality goalies that allowed them to let Bobrovsky walk
15. Devils - lol no
16. St. Louis - Binnington just won a cup, Allen was doing well as a backup
17. Colorado - Grubauer and Francouz; maybe an option if we retained 50%
18. Dallas - Bishop and Khudobin
19. Nashville - Rinne and Saros
20. Winnipeg - Hellybuyck
21. Minnesota - Dubnyk and Stalock; possibly could work but not a contender
22. Chicago - Crawford and Lehner and not a contender
23. Vegas - Fleury and Subban and no cap space
24. Edmonton -Mike Smyth and Koskinen, and no cap space
25. Vancouver - Markstrom and Demko
26. Calgary - Talbot and Rittich and no cap space
25. Arizona - Kuemper and Raanta
26. Anaheim - Gibson
27. LA - Tire Fire
28. San Jose - Tire Fire

So, basically Colorado or nothing. Selfish Henrik maybe possibly refused to waive his NTC for 1 potential location to a team that maybe was ok with their goaltending anyway, and unless they were willing to play goalie musical chairs themselves, would have 3 NHL goalies on their roster for this season.
Allegedly, Carolina put in a call about Henrik.

Hypothetical time.

Would you trade Zibs for Eichel, next year? or do we extend a 29 year old Zibanejad?

Zibs + our prospect pool, I feel like we could land any player we want

Yeah they have some solid pieces but I don't think they're even sure fire in the top 10 when looking at their system as a whole.

At the very least I don't see any justification for having their system ahead of the Rangers'.

I mean he had NYR at 19th prior to this draft. That seems absurdly low for the amount of legit NHL prospects they have in the pipeline. Justification being "they didn't have a lot of bonafide star potential in the system" which I don't see how that is a legitimate justification - I mean I guess Fox, Kakko and Shesty aren't being counted there?

there is no logical justification for having us that low unless players acquired in trades or the 1st 2 rounds don't count lol

That Byron dude is on something strong lol. No star power as if we didnt just take the 2nd best player in the draft a year before. As well as having one of the strongest Defensive groups in the league (prospect wise). Clear bias there, guy is probably a devils fan.

I disagree. While making the playoffs next year is a goal, building the true SC contender, the annual contender, is the priority. When the Rangers win the cup it's highly likely it will be because of Laf's contributions than Kreider's. Catering to the vets is in the past. Hank's gone, Staal's gone. What's best for the long term is the priority.

Hypothetically, I dont see Zibs waiving his NMC to go to an Eichel-less Buffalo....

Stand pat and roll with the current team and next year either at the deadline or summer, or foe either Eichel or barkov. By then lhd will be clarified and we would have the necessary ammunition to pull it off both prospect and budget wise. Can you imagine the top 6 and the pp units. It would be absurd.
