I genuinely don't know the criteria put into the evaluation process when evaluating prospects from an organizational prospective but we don't exactly have any game breakers other than Laf.

What am I missing here?

He specifically says in his tweets that Jack Hughes is still a prospect, so by that logic Kakko must be too.

So yeah I guess other than the best prospect in the world and the 1B prospect in the world the year prior, we don't have much else other than 4 other 1st rounders in the last 3 drafts alone.

But yeah, that Calgary prospect pool...

Yeah but neither player/prospect hasn't done much of anything thus far.
So again.

As it should be. He's already done everything there is to be done at the junior level, including leading Team Canada to a WJC gold.

Neither Kakko nor Laf have anything to prove or gain by going to the WJC. Both won gold, Laf was MVP and Kakko scored the golden goal. Unless Kakko wants to go for that MVP himself lol

Can Hoffman play RW?

Would be an interesting 1 year type deal if cap space is freed up

If the Rangers had more defensive aware forwards then maybe Hoffman could be an option because he is allergic to defense. But unfortunately they dont and since he would be on the 3rd line here behind Buchnevich and Kakko, as he should be, it would be a bad combo for us having him play with Lafreniere and Chytil. We dont know how Laf will respond to the defensive side of the game at the NHL level right off the bat. And Chytil is still trying to nail down the demands of the center position. Just seems like a line that would get pinned in their own end often.

Ok, Mike. We can go through the entire league if you'd like. The bolded are the only possibilities:

1. Boston - Rask and Halak
2. Tampa - Vasilevsky
3. Toronto - Freddie Anderson at $5m already; no cap space
4. Florida - Bobrovsky
5. Montreal - Carey Price
6. Buffalo - Tire Fire
7. Ottawa - Tire Fire
8. Detroit - Tire Fire
9. Washington - Holtby and Samsonov
10. Philadelphia - Carter Hart
11. Pittsburgh - Murray and Jarry
12. Carolina - Mrazek and Reimer; only an option if we take a goalie back / attach an asset as their owner does not want to spend on goaltending
13. Islanders - lol no
14. Columbus - 2 young quality goalies that allowed them to let Bobrovsky walk
15. Devils - lol no
16. St. Louis - Binnington just won a cup, Allen was doing well as a backup
17. Colorado - Grubauer and Francouz; maybe an option if we retained 50%
18. Dallas - Bishop and Khudobin
19. Nashville - Rinne and Saros
20. Winnipeg - Hellybuyck
21. Minnesota - Dubnyk and Stalock; possibly could work but not a contender
22. Chicago - Crawford and Lehner and not a contender
23. Vegas - Fleury and Subban and no cap space
24. Edmonton -Mike Smyth and Koskinen, and no cap space
25. Vancouver - Markstrom and Demko
26. Calgary - Talbot and Rittich and no cap space
25. Arizona - Kuemper and Raanta
26. Anaheim - Gibson
27. LA - Tire Fire
28. San Jose - Tire Fire

So, basically Colorado or nothing. Selfish Henrik maybe possibly refused to waive his NTC for 1 potential location to a team that maybe was ok with their goaltending anyway, and unless they were willing to play goalie musical chairs themselves, would have 3 NHL goalies on their roster for this season.

In February 2018, at the deadline, Hank at 4.25

Calgary
Colorado
Minnesota
Philadelphia
San Jose

Were all options in terms of needing to shore up goaltending.

All with the exception of Calgary made the playoffs.

I think you are under-stating the number of teams that needed help in nets when the letter was sent.

Hank was still a badass on a team that gave up the 4th most goals that year.

Hoffman is not getting 3rd line treatment so that Buch can man the 1st line.

Warts and all, Buchnevich is not nearly the player Hoffman is

I am not saying Buch is the same player Hoffman is. Buch is not a 30 goal scorer. But Buch has the chemistry with Kreider and Zibanejad that compliments that line well. His play along the boards in his own end and his defensive game in general as come a long way. So yeah I think Hoffman would end up behind both Buchnevich and Kakko, regardless of how many goals Hoffman can score. We need to diversify the team with players that acknowledge both sides of the puck. Its one thing to grab Monahan who is a legitimate 2C that can pot 70-80 points and you can live with the defensive shortcomings, its another to add a winger that gets lost in his own end when we have the wingers for the top 6 set. Hoffman would be a luxury and thats really what it comes down to for me.

I much prefer Haula, Grandlund, Boyle to fit the roles we need here filled.

I'd rather have nothing to do with mister "obviously stuck it in crazy".

My favourite Hoffman moment is still the Senators trading him out West because they "didn't want to trade him in the division". The Sharks then turned around and traded him to Florida for a better return mere minutes after acquiring him

Always trade a player for the best return

I disagree. While making the playoffs next year is a goal, building the true SC contender, the annual contender, is the priority. When the Rangers win the cup it's highly likely it will be because of Laf's contributions than Kreider's. Catering to the vets is in the past. Hank's gone, Staal's gone. What's best for the long term is the priority.
While certainly not a part of management, but I can pretty much guarantee that winning will take precedence over how the exact minutes and where a rookie plays.

No. At that point, it makes more sense to him to play on a promising Rangers team and then go UFA.

I don't know, it's a tough decision. I mean who would you want to play with in a contract year? Panarin, Kreider, Lafreniere, Kakko, and Buchnevich. Or Jeff Skinner and Kyle Okposo....

Tough call.

Pronman's Post-Draft Org rankings

The criteria for players considered in this ranking changed this year. All players in an organization who were 22 years old or younger as of Sept. 15, 2020, regardless of how many NHL games they’ve played, along with the rest of the players in the pipeline, were included. Not included are: Skaters older than 22 as of Sept. 15, 2020, who have played 25 NHL games in a season or 50 career games; goalies with 10 games in a season or 25 in a career; and any player age 26 or older as of Sept. 15, 2020.

  1. New York Rangers
Pre-draft org ranking: No. 1
2020 draft grade: A+
I had the Rangers as the No. 1 organization pre-draft, and with a No. 1 pick, they added the most talent of any team in the draft. Safe to say, this one shouldn’t shock anyone. This is an organization that is deep in young talent, both in terms of players who can play high in the lineup and provide depth. This is a team that is now positioned to potentially win in the future.
1. Alexis Lafreniere, LW
2. Kaapo Kakko, RW
3. Adam Fox, D
4. Filip Chytil, C
5. Nils Lundkvist, D
6. Vitaly Kravtsov, RW
7. Brett Howden, C
8. Julien Gauthier, RW
9. Braden Schneider, D
10. K’Ande Miller, D
11. Matthew Robertson, D
12. Morgan Barron, C
13. Will Cuylle, LW
14. Zac Jones, D
15. Ryan Lindgren, D
16. Dylan Garand, G

2. NJ
3. Ottawa
4. Toronto
5 LA Kings
