This is minor but since it's quiet here I'll throw this out for discussion:

Did anyone else think when Kulikov signed with NJ "Man, they should have went after him instead of Johnson/Biteto"?
I did. I was also a big advocates for Girgensons when it was apparent fast was gone. Even before that

The Reinhart deal is good for us. We'll be able to walk away from the award, since it'll likely be over the threshold. Strome will either go UFA or claim our offer, which hopefully will not be much more than what he made this season.
Yeah good for that and hopefully Granlund is still available, bad as in a 4-4.5 value coming back via arb which is absorbable

The seasons to be or not to be is all about being able to generate sufficient money for owners and players alike. If restrictions make the predicted result too lean, there will be no 20-21 season. “No gate revenue = no season” is what I heard. So the outlook is really bleak...

I made this prediction as soon as the Rangers won the draft lottery. Did you guys really think the hockey gods would allow the Rangers to have a #1OA draft pick?

They also cant afford to play in empty buildings. Even more for the AHL.
If these predictions come true there will still be a draft next year, only it wouldn’t be an Amateur Draft but a NHL Draft of players from bankrupt teams.
:(

What a bonkers thing to happen. We would win an OG canadiens amount of Stanley cups.

Watching some Kravtsov highlights i don't see how we end the season without him on the roster at some point.

He could be a late season add. The KHL is likely to finish before the NHL. The overlap gives guys two pro leagues that they can earn checks from. You also get a player who can come in without needing a training camp.

The league loosened the rule around European imports mid-season, and I for one think it's great for the sport of hockey. Forces teams to put in more work to find guys who can add to a playoff run. There's nothing wrong with getting good players for better hockey.

The other thing is that Kravtsov ELC is burning another year so the experience will be good for him. A stellar season the K should earn him a look in the majors. Kid's been sensational in the KHL. Nice to see him start putting all the tools together.

The biggest obstacle for Kravtsov is his cap hit.

I don’t dislike Strome. I dislike the widening inequity between what he does and what he could get paid.

I get that, but I think how it impacts the roster next season depends on who the 'replacement player' for Strome would be.

I'm not utterly convinced that Granlund would be a complete upgrade on Ryan.

Well I look at it as replacing Strome and what he is awarded with potentially Granlund and say Haula for the same money the award would be.

Exactly. Granlund is hardly even a center
Maybe not recently, but the 3 consecutive years early on in his career with Minnesota when he was taking Faceoffs he was 49.9% on the dot. Strome has been miserably bad in that area and at the center position in general. Granlund is also a more defensively responsible player.

The biggest obstacle for Kravtsov is his cap hit.

You can accrue cap space depending on how things play out. It's also unlikely that a late season add is going to trigger Vitali's bonuses. Say with a combination of injuries, and other players not maxing out their bonuses the Rangers find some wiggle room. You're burning a year of his ELC, he can earn an NHL check and get some experience and if that makes the team better, I'm sure they can find a way.

It'll be the replacement players, given that hypo award number

It's not about triggering the bonuses, he will count towards the cap for his full bonuses as we already hit the max we can go over the cap on PBs (7.5%)

I am sure they will find a way if they really want him on the team, but it's still an obstacle

Could the Rangers offer $4,538,958 and the. Just walk away from whatever number the arbitrator picks in the middle? Or it that too easy

Offer $4.5+? Why? I’d be coming in at $4 at the most. Why would you concede more in the arbitration... $4.5 might be more than he would be awarded.

Granlund is a waste of time, we may as well just keep Strome. I'm not sure why people are content with mediocrity, i guess we've gotten used to it the last bunch of years with our top scorers topping out at around 60 points a year. Either make a serious upgrade or continue growing from within, Granlund peaked 4 years ago, letting Strome go and getting Granlund and hoping he puts up numbers like Strome is an unnecessary gamble considering their cap hits aren't likely to be that far apart.
