Really. If not him, then who? Who are you bringing in that will have the same chemistry with Panarin and produce as well? Oh, and cost you less than $5m?

Or are you simply thrusting Chytil into a role that he neither deserves nor shown that he is capable of handling?

IDK but you cannot commit 4 years with this cap at $5 million IMO. I can’t see the Rangers locking up the 2nd line center with this cap and with a Howden, who knows if Laf gets a shot at center, Krazkov, Hendrickson, Barron, etc all in the pipeline. I wouldn’t lock up center before knowing what i have and i don’t see Strome part of the core i want long term.

2 years, maybe. If he’s the answer, resign him. No way i give him 4 right now.

I'm not sure what you're saying here.

I'm saying that he's been with the Rangers for 63 game in 2018 - 2019 where he produced 33 points. His first game was on November 17 and and let's say it took him through the end of 2018 to get acclimated. In this timeframe he played 19 games and scored 7 points (30pps). Then in 2019 portion of the season he played in 44 games and scored 26 points (48pps). Season = 82 games.

What makes it questionable? That he was doing it?

33 points in 63 games is the same rate as 43 in 82. I am not sure what you are really arguing here. Or just arguing just to argue. This is beginning to resemble you constantly trying to push the Trade Trouba narrative.

Ok. So let's throw out that point rate. Should we now use the point rate from last year? Or do you have yet another excuse as to why it should not be used?

Seems to me that there is a whole lot of bending over backwards in efforts to explain the production of a player.
Its questionable because youre projecting a partial season out to a full season for a player who actually played a full season. Youre cherry-picking.

If NYR re-signs Strome, they're signing a player with a known playing history of seven seasons.
Strome, Strome's agent, and I guess you will argue that all those other seasons dont matter, that the only games that Strome ever played that matter are the last 70 (also not counting the play-in, where he disappeared). But that's a laughable position. Its not good business to gamble that a player as inconsistent as Strome is will suddenly and inexplicably stop being inconsistent.

Well, just got my request for draft night off approved. So, a question for you all:

What should I drink when we draft Lafreniere first overall? Lagavulin 16, or Widow Jane Lucky 13?

The only way id even consider 3+Tkachuck is if we knew LA would take Stutzle. Id then move Buch + ADA in a deal for a stud LHD.

idk, maybe it’s me. After #1 i’m not sure who the next best player will be. They all look good but . . . idk. Meanwhile Tkachuck will cost a fortune soon.

Projecting for Strome in 2018-19 is inappropriate. He played 18 more games that same season with Edmonton, scoring… wait for it….

2 points.

Strome struggled when he first got here that year as well. Something seemed to click for him in mid-February. Over the first 53 games of that season (including the 18 in Edmonton), Strome only scored 13 points. He put up 22 in the final 28 games of the season, and hasn't really looked back. I still think we should move him (because of $$ and his lack of interest in defense), but he has been very solidly a 2C for more than a year and a half.

Jimmy Hayes is not a trusted source. But...

If Ottawa adds a third piece, I'd be listening.

Also FWIW -- have heard Gaudreau for Konecny rumor kicking around. There's definitely smoke around Calgary and Philadelphia too. Just get the feeling Calgary is going to be making some news soon.
I think I’d rather have Konecny

My guess is because no front office is going to come out and say, "there's no chance we're trading this pick" because they owe it to themselves to allow would-be suitors to makes their best offers.
Yeah, ordinarily I would agree but if the Rangers are legitimately discussing trading 1OA then their PR team is doing a hell of a job hiding it. Between social media and emails it looks like they’re taking 1OA seriously and not showing any signs of entertaining the notion of trading that pick. It’s gotten to the point where that ping pong ball with the Ranger logo has its own commercials. I just don’t see that pick in Lafreniere being moved under any circumstances. Again, to me it just seems as if this kind of trade talk of 1OA happens every draft.

I think the big issue with Strome is that he has PRODUCED as a solid 2C but he is not competent enough in other areas of the game to be a comfortable long term solution to the 2C. What does his production look like if Panarin misses two months with an injury? Maybe with Laf able to step up it can sustain, but the point is that you want a 2C, when it’s time to compete (so not necessarily this next 1-2 seasons, but certainly going forward from there) who brings more than solid complimentary production. You want someone who can drive play, at least a bit, and who can play the matchup game, provide some defense for his line, not take a lot of bad penalties. I don’t really have any issue at all with Strome, per se, but the argument for keeping him does tend to hinge exclusively on production and not on his overall ability as a hockey player. It’s clear he can produce 40+ points on his own merit and it’s clear that in the right situation, he has the skillset to produce significantly more. Can he bring anything else to the table? If the answer is no, and that he’s a 45 point guy who can take advantage of favorable linemates and minutes, than ideally you’d like to see a more complete hockey player as your long term 2C.

To a degree it comes almost entirely down to contract. For the right price, I’m comfortable locking him up and eventually moving him to 3C or W. If he wants to get paid and secure term after a career year (and who wouldn’t?) it becomes a much trickier equation.

He didn't mean term. If both parties are smart, it'll be a year.
