If the Rangers decided to move Vesey,Toronto would make sense. The Leafs really wanted Vesey. They viewed Vesey as the perfect compliment to Matthews. Would the Rangers move Vesey? He picked the Rangers because he is represented by the same agency as Chris Drury. Kasperi Kapanen would be a nice fit on the Rangers. Right handed shooting winger. Excellent skater.
The player we have that fit that mold Det is looking for is Tony DeAngelo.
Can we stop referring to players by their initials? It's becoming chronic around here. I don't have a ****ing clue who people are taking about half the time. Type out the name!![]()
Vesey is still a young player. They liked him for a while and teams usually still covet certain playersi think they might see him differently now. his resume so far isnt all that sparkling.
plus toronto needs help on defense. their forwards 1-9 right now are pretty solid.
Look, I think you need to make changes gradually in this league. Every change you make take time to settle in. The amount of changes you can do without losing footing depends on how solid the core of a team is.
Like it or not, this team had no footing whatsoever to start the year. The fact that AV started with Chytil and TDA was a mistake, not because those two weren’t ready — but because the team couldn’t provide a platform for those two kids to come in and play to their strengths on.
I think the talk about AV and Holden and Staal is pretty childish. Smith came into camp out of shape, Shatty is on a new team and especially PMDs need time to settle in. We have moved our top line center. Hank is getting older.
This is a regular season in the NHL, you can say a lot about AV but he at least has a bit of experience and knowledge when it comes to guiding a team through the 82 first games with good results. You want a comfortable ride. Stay away from adversity. When you bring in kids, you want them to try to do the right things and you want to put them in a position where they shouldn’t fail. It’s very basic, and while AV has faults, his approach to the regular season in this regard is definitely something I like. And just look at the number of kids he have managed to turn into very good NHLers.
This season is 82 games long. We want to accomplish a lot of things during it, not the least implement a few youngsters. But when you are 1-4, and have played very shaky, it’s time to put a team that can hold up on the ice without losing its footing. AV is obviously betting on horses from that perspective right now.
One of the reasons for why I think the Holden/Staal talk is childish is because we have heard the same for many years now — and it’s always proven wrong. “Why is Glass playing and not Buchnevich, AV hates kids.” Buch doesn’t even have that great camp — and he gets basically THE biggest forward role on the team. Top line minutes. Runs the Power Play. And so forth. Kreider has a big role. JT Miller has a big role. Kevin Hayes has a big role. Skjei has a big role. In relation to every single one of those names we have heard that AV — hates — them yada yada yada. Right? You could certainly instead argue that he hates kids that aren’t ready and loves them the second they are...
If you want to criticize AV — the Ottawa series is something you can’t talk away. And not because he played X and Y in a certain shift, Skjei-Smith doesn’t look that extremely good in the defensive shifts right now, but because we just didn’t run them over. For not having a force like Kreider playing an effective game. And so forth.
JMHO at least.![]()
LOL good luck to me spelling some of the names correctlyCan we stop referring to players by their initials? It's becoming chronic around here. I don't have a ****ing clue who people are taking about half the time. Type out the name!![]()
According to an NHL source, the Red Wings aren’t actively shopping Athanasiou. Their preference is that he plays for them this season and continues to progress as an exciting young player.
But multiple sources confirmed that they are listening. They have to at this point. Teams are calling to check in on the situation to see how eager the Red Wings are to make a move. The message back has been consistent. The return has to be a good — a young player with similar upside. The Red Wings are telling teams they aren’t moving Athanasiou for something like a second-round pick or a player in their late 20s who only makes them marginally better.
One rival GM told The Athletic on Friday the asking price for Athanasiou was high – a young, top-four defenseman or a young center.
It’s similar to last year when Winnipeg Jets defensemen Jacob Trouba held out. If they were going to trade him, the Jets wanted a good, young defenseman in the same age range and pedigree back in return. But if a team has that player, why would they make the trade? It’s a tough trade to consummate and it’s equally challenging with Athanasiou.
And so both sides wait.
No on Ruff, Sutter isn’t bad. I’d wait to see how Chicago and Washington pan out. Maybe Trotz or Q hits the marketThis year has reminded me why I hate AV so much.
Fire this clown before it's too late. My #1 choice would be Darryl Sutter, but I'm open to anyone but AV, including Lindy Ruff.
Three scenarios, pick one:
#1 - Trade 1st in 2018 for Duchene - that would be fair to Sakic endless journey of trying to get rid of Duchene.
#2 - Do what the Debbies did. Win a lottery and draft Dahlin.
#3 - Win the lottery, trade the #1 pick to the #3 spot and gain boatload of other picks, pick Tkachuk 3rd and others.
