The Rangers have a history of ignoring the blueline. 1992. The team was very good. No D was added. Leetch. Beukeboom. Patrick. 2012. The team was very good. No D was added. Torts tried to win with 4D. 3 1/2. McDonagh. Girardi. Staal who missed the first three months with a concussion. DZ struggled. You're not hearing anything about the Rangers looking to add a D. All of these different forwards. The Rangers won't have much remaining in terms of assets and money to add a D if they add two forwards. Another first round pick for a rental or two rentals is such shortsighted business. Even Brooks mentioned the strategy of continuously trading draft picks is not sustainable.

Hanifin for 2025 1st and Jones/Robertson and another pick if Hanifin re-signs. They can add a couple cheap forwards.

Wennberg, eh? He's not a terrible option but I like other guys on Seattle more. He is a better fit than Henrique tho.

So, if the Trouba helmet toss turned the season around last year would it be safe to say the Mackey fight did it this year, seems like things got back to right after that, or maybe the all star break? Or maybe just the return of Kakko to the lineup?

If we go for a twofer (i.e., getting a top-6 RW and a 3rd line C in one trade), what are the options?

Hayes/Buchnevich from the Blues
Wennberg/Eberle from the Kraken
Henrique/Vatrano from the Ducks
Granlund or Hoffman/Duclair from the Sharks

Which other ones?

And even if the other team retains 50% of each player, I assume we would have to trade someone like Goodrow, right? IDK how we'd be able to fit them otherwise.

Wennberg/Eberle is the clear best option of the 4 when you consider quality of players and acquisition cost

9 hits betweent Rempe (5 minutes) and Edstrom (7 minutes) which was about 45% of the total number of hits the Rangers got credit for (Trouba had 4 and Goodrow 3 as well)

So 8 wins in a row, against some good teams (Dallas, Colorado, Tampa). Is this still a bad hockey team? We know they have holes, though this season every top team has a pretty glaring hole or two.

Let's just be a bit positive here
Despite some early turnovers, they defended well last night overall. They need to defend consistently. If they can't do that, they aren't going to go far. We've won 8 in a row, but most of those games weren't pretty.

It is no longer allowed to have trade compensation based on whether or not a player re-signs.

Been saying it since the start of the year, people said i didn't know what i was talking about, Rempe should be in the lineup permanently. There's always a spot for a guy his size who can play the game and add physicality.
Rempe and Edstrom can both skate. That’s the key. Their size and physicality is awesome and fun to watch but if they couldn’t skate it wouldn’t matter.

The fourth line is very compelling and brings value to the lineup for sure. I look forward to seeing them score some greasy goals and to wear down the opponent’s D come playoff time.

This is why you don’t sign the corpses of former superstars to play in the bottom six.

None of the above. We need a dman first and foremost. Then I'd go cheap on a forward to play RW. Most of the guys you listed will cost too much.

I missed that. Regardless Id like to see them do something like the Bruins did with Hampus a few years back. Trade for him and immediately sign him to an extension. The national media guys have speculated that Hanifin's preference is Tampa in trms of signing, but Drury and the Rangers can convince him im sure.

do not want to extend life of the parallel thread on the main trade board, so a short rant here...

In this article

Despite the fact that in the first sentence it is acknowledged it might not be a good idea, Kakko's name is again pushed as trade material.

I really do not like having to constantly emphasize how often I am right, it projects a false image of being vainglorious. Howev, I am compelled as a matter of duty, to emphasize idiocy -- particularly such as this -- is wrong, and after a fair hearing to be heard on the merits, having failed same, such deserves to be repudiated.

the above article, seeking clickbait, is repudiated ferociously by yours truly.

It is now obv wrong to deal KK barring any massive overpay in exceptional currency.

this should have been clear enuf even before last night's game->goal-> pt streak

end rant ... for now

Again, CAP CAP CAP
sure, you can enjoy your sugar rush now, but you are paying assets and beyond that cost, if player acquired is not to be a rental, assuming you even work it out before so you can speak to the guy and get him extended, THAT EXTENSION WILL NOT BE CHEAP

We need to develop youth

Here's an outside the box thought ...

Edstrom and Rempe can both skate.
Is that sufficient enuf if they are paired w/other acceptable partners so each could play D, Ed at LD and Rem at RD?

In the case of Edstrom, this might be more of a 1yr + stopgap while we wait for Scanlin, Fortescue to arrive, tho if he does a KAM and changes from F to D well enuf, why not?
Should be worth experimenting on a selective basis vs certain bottom feeder clubs this yr just to be prepared for emergency in POs.

Rempe, due to our giving away Emberson for nothing, we have zippo rhs in pipeline atm to replace, he would have to be more of a longer term fix unless we can get a good rd. [Hoping for Helleson (ducks) for BMB]

What's the potential asking price for Tanev? Would Jones and a 2nd do it? Imo Hanifin is gonna be too rich for us, i mean Tanev has made a career out of being the compliment to good dmen, dropping him with Fox and having Gus, Lindgren and Schneider as our 5,6,7, looks good to me.
As for forwards, I'm more interested in Wennberg than Hendrique, especially if there's a chance Chytil isn't gonna be playing next year (never heard anything of the sort but with the way he went down without contact at practice its possible).

These guys aren't switching to D at this point in their career, it's the hardest player position to switch to, and given their size I'm sure people have tried them on d over their careers.

Can Tanev play the left side? I have never been impressed by him in my limited viewings but he played well with Quinn Hughes in Vancouver. I've seen the Manson return as the template. I feel like Toronto will have the best offer ultimately.

while that moment is a stark visual, I think this yr it is a combo of things.....

1. emergence of bread -- finally
2. emergence of LaF -- finally
3. in process but legit emergence of Kakko
4. Quick holding the fort and then some while Shesty took 5 wks I'll be human vacay before returning to full Vez form
5. Small but solid, steady steps by KAM + Schneid
6. At last, Ed + Rempe!!!!

Think of Tanev like a Marc Methot, on their own, nothing special but they allow guys like Fox or Miller to be more offensive and to a lesser extent Schneider maybe or Gus. That's what we'd be getting, someone who holds the fort down while the others go to work.

Yeah it doesn't work like that.

This is not a serious post

Tanev is good, like as far as D who don't really create offense he's really good in the sense that hes actually an asset in transition.

He gets blown up almost as often as Lindgren does so you're kind of rolling the dice on him being healthy when it matters.

i would have taken a chance if he were a LHD or if we didn't have Trouba.

Who's that hypothetical defenseman going to replace in the lineup?

I think assuming no injuries between now and the end of the season is a bad assumption. I also think it would behoove the team to give some of these guys a game or two off.

I'd be looking for a bottom-pairing guy with some size. That woudl give the team the option of throwing in Jones, say for Gustafsson or Fox if they need a game off, or someone else if it's for Schneider, Lindgren or Trouba.

Scandella, to me, seems like a low cost guy who would fit.
