Why are we taking anything Dreger says about the Rangers seriously now? He doesn’t have any sources inside the organization at all
Pure guess. Drury tried to make a deal and the opposing GM asked for our 2024 1st and Drury said I would if I could but the owner of the team wants to be on stage at the Sphere with his first round pick.
Then that GM leaked it.

Idk why it seems like people are taking Dreger's report as 100% fact. I saw that report and laughed because it seems like the most obvious intentional leak of all time. The Rangers basically never have any leaks but now they not only have one but it's one where the OWNER is saying no to moving a 1st round pick? The same owner who basically never publicly comments on the Rangers and all the reports around the team from those in the know is that he's exceedingly hands off with the Rangers?
It's most likely from Calgary where Dreger has connections and it's most likely conjecture based on the Rangers not wanting to include a 1st in 2024 in whatever their offer for Lindholm was. Maybe even used Dolan as his boogeyman in their talks as his hardline to why he can't include a 1st even if he really just didn't want to include the 1st and tried to get it done without including one or wanted to include a future one instead so his first three draft classes will be breaking into the NHL while his traded pick is up so the system doesn't go too bare at once, better to stagger those things.

Spare me the people thinking Dolan is going to ruin the team and somehow prevent us from making a deal that makes the Rangers better. I'm sure if Drury (and Sather) go to Dolan with a deal that makes the Rangers actually better and is worth moving a 1st rounder (i.e not a rental) then I think Drury can do whatever he wants.

Two even strength goals tonight for Elias Lindholm in his Canucks debut and he's not a Ranger because Dolan is more concerned about putting on a show during the draft at the Sphere during the offseason than winning games.

Dreger said on insider trading Dolan wants the Rangers to keep their 2024 first round pick because the draft is at The Sphere.

Of course that's the reason he wants to keep it.

Not because it's the smart hockey move.

Just means we're going to move prospects over picks to make moves.

Moving a 2025 1st would be very shortsighted, for any of these guys. You don't know where the team will be at this time next year.

scary and probably true.

message sending...new Rangers...meritocracy

Good. The issue I see with Igor is that he has become too passive. A lot of the close-in goals he has given up could have been broken up with better, more aggressive positioning. People blame the D but a sharp goalie snuffs out chances before they develop.
Georgiev yesterday was very aggressive taking up space and using his stick effectively. He nearly stole that game.
Igor should have been taking notes.

Id trade a 1st for vatrano but i dont think thatll get it done.

The thing is, the east sucks so if theres a year to go for it, its this year. However, we have so many flaws. Its a tough spot to be in.

Im really high on brett berard, I think he can be a solid 3rd line winger and feel like his floor is tyler motte. But i think ducks want berard, 1st and maybe even an additional conditional draft pick for vatrano. Just too much.

I actually think he can roll with a 3rd line of cuylle-brodz-kakko. So if I was drury id be going for that 1st line RW before a 3C. Perhaps we can get duclair for a 2nd

Why would Drury feel any sort of obligation to say that to another GM?

The only information that Dreger would get about the Rangers stems from the Rangers wanting it to be leaked themselves.

"I have a budget that was set by others, my hands are tied"

If Perreault, Othmann, or Cuylle are dealt then I send a pipe bomb to Tob's account

Rangers to be active at the draft maybe to move into top 5.

I understand the Rangers want to add before the deadline, but there are some complications that might get in the way?
Dreger:
Yeah, including their first-round pick in 2024. And you're right, the New York Rangers would like to add a forward. I'm told that they did make an offer [for] Elias Lindholm, formerly of the Calgary Flames, now [with] the Vancouver Canucks. But that offer clearly wasn't accepted. James Dolan, the owner of the New York Rangers, wants to protect the 2024 first-round pick so that the Rangers can be part of the spotlight at the draft and The Sphere. Because Dolan is also the owner of The Sphere in [Las] Vegas. Doesn't mean that [general manager] Chris Drury can't use another first-round pick – maybe in 2025 or acquire one. But, the Rangers want to be part of the spectacle in Vegas.

Should not be traded (barring overpayment): Kakko, Perreault, Othmann, Berard, Sykora, 2024 1st round pick

Actively shop: 2nd and mid round picks, Robertson, Jones, Goodrow

Listen in but need upgrade to move: Lindgren, Miller

Replacement level: Brodzinski, Pitlick, Wheeler

If the Rangers do anything, it should be something like a 2nd round pick for a 3C and be done with it. They need to figure out which players they intend to inject into the lineup over the next few years and they need to hold on to 1st rounders while they keep the cupboard stacked. None of those assets are untouchable, but not a single name thrown around is intriguing enough to move any of those assets. I don’t care how open the east is, Vatrano and Henrique aren’t putting this team over the top and you can’t waste the assets you have on a move like that when you are pretty much bare outside of them. Save darts for the offseason and see how things shake loose. Bolster the depth with mid round picks and B assets

Agreed, go for some B-Tier guys for mid round picks and hope they gel (a la Vatrano in 2022).

This offseason, they're can look into trading some wings for a center. They have a whole new crop of grittier/water bug wingers who will be joining the team in the coming years and they need both young 3-4 Cs with upside behind Zibanejad and Trochek as Chytil is going to be a question mark the rest of his career (if he's able to come back). Even like a Brian Boyle type center would be great.

This rental bullshit every year needs to end. The NHL is the only sport with this nonsense. Trade the 2nd round pick for some rental. The Rangers won't have a 2nd and 3rd in back to back years and they will not have a 2nd round pick for three straight years.

The Maple Leafs don't have a two round pick for three straight years and they owe the Hawks a 2025 first round pick and 2026 second round pick for McCabe and Lafferty. Elliotte Friedman and Pierre Lebrun mentioned the Leafs don't have the assets to make a trade because Kyle traded them all away.

The Rangers are entering that territory if they make a couple of more dumb trades or one big dumb trade.

I was watching some Winnipeg Jets youtube content after the Monahan trade. They were saying the 2024 NHL draft drops off after the 20th pick so it's OK for the Jets to give up the pick for Monahan. That guy isn't moving the needle. Winnipeg needed to do something but it's making a move for the sake of making a move and showing the fans and media that management isn't sleeping.

Winnipeg plays in the Central division. Their first round matchup will be against Dallas or Colorado. Good luck.
