Agreed, go for some B-Tier guys for mid round picks and hope they gel (a la Vatrano in 2022).

This offseason, they're can look into trading some wings for a center. They have a whole new crop of grittier/water bug wingers who will be joining the team in the coming years and they need both young 3-4 Cs with upside behind Zibanejad and Trochek as Chytil is going to be a question mark the rest of his career (if he's able to come back). Even like a Brian Boyle type center would be great.
Victor Olofsson is the new Vatrano. The Rangers were interested in Olofsson a few years ago but they were afraid of the arbitration number. $4.75M. He has struggled big-time this season. The guy can shoot the puck. 48 goals combined the previous two seasons. Rental. Vatrano was being phased out in Florida at the time of the trade. Now Vatrano is Mike Bossy.

I'd also look at Jason Zucker. 27 goals last year, only 7 goals and 17 points in 38 games for Arizona this season. He could produce in the right situation.

I still don’t get the obsession with Vatrano. Doesn’t really do much well outside of absolutely rip pucks through the net. Vatrano/Zib/Kreider wasn’t great the first time

Buy low on some player. It worked with Vatrano. 4th round pick. How much will Oloffson or Zucker cost? It shouldn't cost that much. New environment. New team. Not some guy who has already been here. The Rangers will need some salary retention.

X or Twitter. Every post is Announce Vatrano. He could shoot the puck. Oloffson can shoot the puck. He can't do much else. He should be able to pot some goals with Mika and Chris.

Olofsson and Zucker are nice but dont solve the fact that we have an AHL player as our 3C and Ryan Lindgren on our top pair.

Dreger has been spitting into the wind for a long time now trying to break news, I dont really believe this at all. Really feels like its all trying to justify why they didnt get Lindholm? I didnt want the guy if it was going to cost the equivalent of Kakko+1st+ like it did Vancouver. No one shouldve.

I feel like Winnipeg kinda ruined the trade market for extremely stupidly giving in to Montreal's ask. If Monahan is the type of player going for a first, no smart team is going to go for the top rentals. Bargain guys or players with term are the way to go. I still think Drury would trade the first for a multi year upgrade, despite what Dreger claims. Its not lost on me that this comes out about the Rangers 2 days after Staple says Verbeek wants a 1st for Henrique/Vatrano. Its all media negotiation.

How is the draft looking this year, especially around where we will land? The more picks the better, and odds are the player will be whatever-tier, but seriously.

Any first +, if traded, should get a young, cheap, potential soaked player. If not available, keep it and roll that die Jimbo!
NYR prob will draft a C or LD. I'm digging Luchanko. Maybe on the smaller size at 5'10 but has a ton of speed and good IQ. Looking at Elite Prospects he's listed anywhere from 26 (Bobby Mack's) to 59 (EP's consolidated rankings). So a fairly good chance he's be available for NYR if the actually keep their pick. Though, when has Dreger been right about NYR info?

Should not be traded (barring overpayment): Kakko, Perreault, Othmann, Berard, Sykora, 2024 1st round pick

Actively shop: 2nd and mid round picks, Robertson, Jones, Goodrow

Listen in but need upgrade to move: Lindgren, Miller

Replacement level: Brodzinski, Pitlick, Wheeler

If the Rangers do anything, it should be something like a 2nd round pick for a 3C and be done with it. They need to figure out which players they intend to inject into the lineup over the next few years and they need to hold on to 1st rounders while they keep the cupboard stacked. None of those assets are untouchable, but not a single name thrown around is intriguing enough to move any of those assets. I don’t care how open the east is, Vatrano and Henrique aren’t putting this team over the top and you can’t waste the assets you have on a move like that when you are pretty much bare outside of them. Save darts for the offseason and see how things shake loose. Bolster the depth with mid round picks and B assets
large agree, w/a few small dif
1) I put KAM in the first group [Should not be traded barring...]
2) I flip Robertson + Lindgren
We are already hurt by not moving Lindy when he was in better shape, had more term at good $, and thus more value
We are repeating the stupidity of not trading Buch, but of waiting until the last second to move him when there is only a sliver of rfa control left

Robbie, eff mgmt, I want to see for myself.
He has sufficient physical tools
Usually no substitute for experience.
Not letting him go thru growing pains now = wasted asset for us

RW has been a problem too, and either of those players can play RW.

Regardless, that's the type of player we should be looking for. Not the guy currently tearing it up. Not the guy who has a huge history of producing points. The guy who has put up decent points before in the right situation but is currently struggling. We shouldn't be spending significant assets on upgrades. We need to be more frugal and roll the dice on guys who will come cheaply.

Any upgrade to Lindgren is going to cost a lot. That's probably not on the table right now, but maybe in the summer. If we are adding to the defense, it should be someone with size who won't cost a lot to acquire.

As far as the 3C goes, Cody Glass is having a bad year after putting up decent numbers last year. He's signed for 1 more year at 2.5 mil. He could be an insurance policy in case Chytil doesn't come back next year, depending on the cost to acquire him.

He's only playing 10:57 per game at even strength and only has 3 points in 23 games. He could be pretty cheap, depending on Nashville's intentions with him. Last year he had 35 points in 72 games. Put him with Cuylle and Kakko and see if they can find some chemistry.

Wheeler has been better on Mika's wing than Brodzinski or Lindgren have been in their respective roles. RW shouldnt be a priority. They need a center.

I wouldn't rule out RD either. Trouba only has 2 years left on his contract and the only depth we have outside the NHL is Hollowell and Mancini.

Imagine Dolan waltzs up on stage at the draft and picks up a guy who becomes a 100pt player and his massive ego saves the franchise after years of saying his ego was destroying it? Would be epig.

Cody Glass is interesting.

I'll also add one point to this and it's that there are not many contenders with cap space this season. One of the only advantages to Chytil being out is that the Rangers have cap space at the deadline. Whereas many teams would shy away from a nice depth piece that costs $2.5-3m due to the hoops needed to fit them in, Drury will have an easier time.

Just as an example, how many teams would:
1) target Zucker
2) Be able to fit in the vast majority of his $5.3m cap hit

Here's another buy-low option, Jakub Vrana. He can absolutely rip the puck but has bounced between the NHL and AHL. 27 years old. Currently playing in the AHL but has 110 goals in the NHL. UFA after this year with a $2.625m cap hit. He played very well in Washington. Laviolette saw him firsthand in Washington for half a season where he had 25 points in 39 games and then was traded to help off-set salary in the Mantha deal.

Mika and Lafreniere

I know it's OT but these guys seem to work well together.

Kreider couldn’t score that goal last night. That's not in his DNA.

Maybe the Rangers could put Mika and Lafreniere together in the future.

Welcome to the dark side - I’ve been advocating for this move for a few weeks already. IMO moving Lafreniere to Zibanejad should be tried to deepen top-6 immediately. Panarin - Trocheck should be able to continue being effective without Lafreniere while Laf can be the missing ingredient to jump start Kreider - Zibanejad. Move to join Panarin - Trocheck.

Drury better get ready to buy this guy out in the summer.

With rising cap and some small retention there will be up-and-coming teams looking to breakthrough the playoffs threshold that would be interested in Goodrow (very similar to situation the Rangers were in when they signed Goodrow).

I had this thought as well, but would hate to break up Panarin/Laf. Those two are playing arguably the best we've seen out of the pair in a Rangers uniform, maybe slot Zib between the 2?

I know that would require breaking up Kreider and Zibanejad, which is illegal in 40 states (allegedly)

I dont think we need to split Mika and Kreider, and I also don't think we need to add a player to "unlock" them. Mika just needs to start playing better and shooting more. That pair has been unstoppable in the past and they still dont give up anything at even strength. I am fine with Wheeler playing there with them. Laviolette could and should just play Vesey on that line late in games. Get a center and get depth on D. Only go for a RW if its deadline day and a good deal comes up.

I don’t think so.

Players will be available for the same role for less money/years who are better players.

Maybe a team with desperate need to reach the cap floor but I doubt that team will be in his list. A buyout is going to be needed.
