If Chytil is going to be out, the rest of the year, should make a push for Rico. He is an all situation C, win face offs, kill penalties, and can score goals. Will be a nice upgrade to the bottom 6. Probably can get him for a 2nd round pick and a B prospect. But I expect Anaheim would like a condition attached for a potential 1st round pick.

they can have a conditional 1st.

the condition is that they send us Mintyukov as well.

I'm less than interested in trading this years 1st for anyone unless they will be around for 5-7 years.

so we potentially make our depth worse, by shifting wheeler down.
When we’re having depth issues.
Who said anything about shifting Wheeler down?

Staple says Chytil may be back around the All Star Break . Skeptical of that but we will see

Still think the Rangers need a better contingency plan at center at some point though. Cannot have two negatives there in bottom six if he gets hurt agaij. Don’t think Henrique is the answer though. Don’t want to add another guy that doesn’t move around like he used to

I'd more inclined to finding a couple of solid depth pieces that cost very little than going after someone like Henrique.

For example, San Jose may be looking to trade Labanc. His cap hit is $4.725m. If SJ retains half ($2.3625m) the cost will likely still be minimal. See if there is a 3rd team willing to retain $1m and he fits easily and provides some skill and speed to the bottom-6.

Just as an example:

To SJ:
Jake Leschyschyn (I can't spell this name...)
SJ Retains 50% of Labanc's cap hit
Tyler Pitlick

To ARI:
NYR 6th
ARI retains $1m

to NYR:
Kevin Labanc

If the team can go over the cap and Chytil isn't coming back until the playoffs they should get creative on how to use that money

What I do know is that when Torts was hired, he did an interview with NHL Radio. Boomer Gordon asked him directly what his concerns were in taking over the Flyers. Torts directly stated that "He did not like the lockeroom". Thats verbatim.

Immediate speculation afterwards was centered around Kevin Hayes as a leader of a Torts coached team going forward.
So Torts ran someone out of town - honestly doesnt mean much

The Sharks can only retain on one guy because of the Burns/Karlsson trade and I doubt they will find much value in using their last spot on Labanc to get an AHL player and a UFA to be 4th liner.

It would seem far more likely they try to use that on Granlund who has this year and next year at 5M and actually has good numbers this year so teams may give something of value to get him at 2.5M for two years.

I don't think Labanc brings anything to our team.

Here's another idea:

Anthony Mantha was waived earlier this year. He has a $5.7m cap hit. 6'5 RW with 11 goals but he is enigmatic. If Washington falls out of the race, which to me, seems likely, would they consider retaining on Mantha and trading him?

I read this morning that the Caps might be buyers at the deadline.

Guy has tons of skill and size but I would pass on him.

Othmann was able to pick 78
Chytil was able to pick 72
Miller was able to pick 79
Maybe Cuylle really wanted 50 to be his jersey number. I just wonder why he never wore 50 in Hartford.

13 was already taken in NY, so he kept 50. He was asked what number he wanted when he made the team in camp.

Usually, 1st round players get to pick their number immediately, everyone else has to officially make the roster to pick their number, and normally quick call ups don't count. I think Sykora is was on the few exemptions as he got his number in the preseason, but maybe because he was the 1st Ranger picked in his draft year?
