i think the point is he doesnt fit fromt he standpoint of this team having just made a run to the conference finals and the fact dach and chytil as the 2c 3c combo wouldnt help the current top players get there again next year when everyone around here wants to see an improvement on strome. if chytil went out in a deal for a center upgrade and the team replaced chytil with dach then that could make sense if they think dach has a better chance to become a top line player than chytil.

We don’t need to be overpaying to try to recreate last year. Overpaying is bad business and it’s how you end up depleted and Cup-less.

Lundkvist + 3rd/5th + 3rd next year for Dach?

Tongue firmly in cheek.
my question is if dach came here where is he playing? I really cant see this team running zib, chytil, dach, and whoever as the centers. dach is a downgrade from strome right now and this team has been looking to upgrade on strome. i think if dach comes here chytil is getting moved OR one of them is playing the wing this year.

what does that have to do with what i posted?

We were talking about timelines. Paying premium prices to try to fit this 30-year-olds timeline here is foolish.

We need Kirby Dachs and not JT Millers. Dach fits our timeline perfectly.

That other timeline is fools gold.

Bullshit. We should not be “in on this” - Dach sucks. I’m not trading Kakko for any side like this. No chance.

I bet you hawks fans say the same thing about KK.

Edit. Yes Dach had a down year. But kid is 21. Played for a bad team. Chytil and Kakko had disappointing years too (chytil was good in PO). I'm not a fan of trading KK, but for Dach I would consider it.

Some thoughts:

1. Chicago shopping 21 y/o Kirby Dach is another circumstance just further strengthening the picture of just how hard it is to make it in the league for kids right now, how little size helps you, how much the game is about speed. And perhaps most of all, just how dumb it is to rush kids to the NHL at the age of 18 right now.

2. LAK is in the same boat with a very underwhelming Byfield.

But it’s not only big and slow centers who are struggling — from my POV Alex Turcotte is a kid that do fit the bill of what works in this league, and as what 4OA he isn’t on track to become a good NHLer right now. He was also rushed badly, but it’s just tough for kids. Zadina in Detroit.

3. Why is it tough for kids? I’ve said this many times, the Y2Y deviance is too big to be explained by coincidence. There are clear trends. The best drafts comes after big changes; the Eastern block falling and early 90s expansion and the 05’ lockout resulting in redline offside being removed and crackdown on clutching and grabbing.

What we are seeing right now is how the league/the game just is fairly “mature”. Ds have been let loose, teams take bigger risks with the puck — but the player type that worked 5 years ago still works.

We have also seen players in the NHL take their nutrition to the next level, everyone are really slimming down to get to a level where they can play their game at the highest possible pace.

4. I am not sure what conclusions can be drawn from this. But one is — don’t panic with kids needing time. We have already done the extreme blunders by rushing all forwards and not giving them any quality ice time (not even during the rebuilding years, good work Quinn!!).

But sports, it’s all about confidence. I have often wondered why it’s so common that late round picks “out develop” higher picks at the age of 18-25. Like you won’t find many examples of a high pick that stinks, then develops and becomes a stat when he is 25. But there are a ton of 7th round picks over the years that did just that. That is of course an extreme example, the most fascinating ones are more depth types.

My picture following these things closely for decades now is that confidence; beliving in yourself, being able to surprise in positive terms consistently, these things can be crucial. Like if Zucc was a 3rd overall pick — and is a huge disappointment out of the gate, does he become the same player, even person, he is today?

NYC isn’t known for its patience, but I do think it’s crucial that Gallant, the players on the team, Kakko and Laf themselves — hey these guys are super smart young individuals — keep focusing on the right things. Getting better every day. That is all that matters.

5. There are clear trends. Ottawa is not one bit disappointed in their high pick, neither is NJ with Hughes. These two are exceptional skaters.

Drury might have options to make trades. Nobody should be “untouchable”. But if we ever are to take the next step — we need that speed threat down center ice.

If we ever are to take the next step, we need it. There are a bunch of things I can see that we could be without, but not that.

Can we get it? I know one thing, we won’t if we don’t try.

guy on the right looks like a fat hairy Kasperi Kapanen

Guy on the right has been an elite 110m hurdle sprinter. Who is the guy in the middle between Rantanen and Kakko?

I'm sorry to be blunt but honestly WTF are you talking about?

Dach spent almost all his even strength ice time last year playing with either Debrincat, Kane or both lmao.

And still managed just 3 more points in 3 more games played than Chytil averaging 18:00 minutes of TOI to 13:00 of TOI.

But yeah, let's just trade Filip Chytil for him straight up lmao.

This line of thinking literally has no defense other than Dach plays for another team and Chytil plays for us which automatically makes people think Dach is better.
When you are out of the playoffs by mid season with no hope the effort and play suffers even by the good players you mentioned. Part of this game is mental and the Blackhawks checked out long before the season ended. It is a hell of a lot different atmosphere playing on a team fighting for the best division record with a shot at the cup versus a team planning there tee off times 2 months ahead of the end of the season.

What you all forget is the fact that FC did not get the playing time because he didn't deserve it. This is the same player the coach had to sit out a game or 2 because his play was poor. Yes he had a good playoff but that does not mean he all of a sudden he has turned into a dependable 2 center. I guess we will see what the Team and Drury think over the next few weeks. I have no problem penciling him as the 3 center but until he proves for an extended period of time that he can be a consistent player I think its fool's gold to have him anywhere else (top 6).

Kane and Debrincat finished with 92 and 78 points respectively lol

how is that "checking out"

Kakko had 8 less points than Dach in 27 less games played while getting 3 minutes less ice time with worse linemates.

Let Hawks fans say whatever they want.

Yeah but those were mentally weak points bro.

You just don't get it man.

where did i saw pay premium prices for 30 year olds or suggest miller vs or over dach?

also that "fools gold" timeline almost went to the cup finals this year. if you think they are pissing away the next few years on the contracts for our older (relative to the kids) core then you aren't paying attention after they literally just demonstrated this year they are committed to this window as well as the next. this isnt 30 year olds versus 22 year olds, there is an age between the two. also dach hasnt been a good nhler so im not sure he is the guy to get all hot over...

Reminder, the starting lineup on opening night is not the lineup this team will have in the (predicted) playoffs next year. We saw what positive changes our additions made this year, scout well and do the same next year too. But we need to retain some assets to do so…
exactly, this team cant piss away our valuable assets that we have left.

Anyone unsure of Chytil would hate Dach once he’s actually on this team. He does the same or less with more. Kakko for him is just silly.
