Lindros was good here. He had 158 points in 192 games. Adjusted for era, that would easily be a PPG now.

There's this weird cartoonization of the Dark Ages on here.

The unifying feature of the dark ages was some just truly awful 2nd and 3rd defensive pairings. We fielded some of the worst NHL defensemen I've seen in that era, and I watched Stu Bickel play in the ECF.

Pilon, Purinton, Karpa, Ulanov, Brad f***ing Brown etc.

It was also the only time in the past 25 years where we haven't had elite goaltending.

we do all realize Malkin is looking for around just over 6 million for 3 years right?

Also those jabronis Aaron Ward and Stephane Quintal.

There is no way that’s the number… because if it is, thats a no brainer.

Has to be around $8 AAV
omg 8 million for Malkin? When he was on the ice against us I had zero worries. He's not worth 8 million

"he's a really good player"
"New York might be too high on him"

well no shit? Othmann just had an amazing season of course we're "high on him". And we sure as hell aren't going to give him up for a rental. Honestly at this point f*** the J.T. Miller idea, VAN is acting as if a rental piece is now Eichel, not worth for us.

It's like they acquired a bunch of star players and then just went "that's it can't be arsed with filling out the rest of the roster."

Really weird considering there wasn't a cap at the time. That would be forgiveable now.

That's really not the fault of the stars and it shouldn't push the "signings bad" mentality that has permeated the fanbase.

I'm not saying "sign Malkin and we win the Cup ur dum if you don't" but sure as hell don't disqualify him because of things that happened 20 years ago.

enough of this shit. Please just sign your guy to a 6 or 8 year extension. I am not trading a significant asset for one year of JT Miller (and I like him and hated trading him away). Berard and Othmann are the kind of players we need to keep marinating and become good 2nd/3rd/4th line players making peanuts in 2023-2024
They have no interest in signing him. They just spent an entire day exchanging offers for a guy they don’t want, and they sent Marek and Dreger on every program to use the Rangers as bait for teams like the Devils and Senators to pony up.

He was returning from injury playing with practically no one and playing A TON of minutes. I’d wager that he’s at or close to a 70 points over 82 games for the next couple of seasons.

I mean the team post lockout was varied by Jagr and company and then Jagr and Shanahan. Not exactly spring chickens.

I’m moderately interested in Malkin. He shoots the puck and he’s not someone who shrinks away from physical play. Insulate him a bit with Panarin n his wing and I’d be curious how that looks. Throw Kravtsov on their right and I’m more than a little intrigued.

Could they not find a suitor for Nemeth with money retained? Perhaps $500k retained with a forward coming back who could be buried?

Going into JTM just being a rental, I'll give up Lundkvist and a 1st based on us getting to the Cup ( or winning it )

TDL rental prices.

I'd be watching RO'R with everything I got. Send him smoke signals. Cirielli too.

It's not that they didn't try. They spent an awful amount of money on Karpa, Lefebvre, Ulanov etc. Even more on de Vries and Kasparaitis. Didn't quite clue in that physical defensemen would tend to depreciate rapidly into their 30s.

If this was able to fit under the cap, what do you all think:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Lafreniere
Panarin-Malkin-Kravtsov
Blais-Chytil-Kaako
Motte-Goodrow-Hornqvist
Reaves

Miller-Fox
Jones-Trouba
Lindgren-Schneider
Braun

Shesty
Lindgren

Malkin at 3 years for $6m per season
Motte at 4 years at $1.85m per season
Hornqvist at 2 years at $1m per season

I think this would fit…

I'm gonna sound like a broken record, but the Rangers might be using Brooks to get the teams who might be willing to take on cap to lower their prices. It was five years ago on draft day that Brooks tweeted the Rangers wouldn't trade Stepan. Might be the same deal with the Rangers are going to buy out Nemeth.

Am I missing something? His numbers are certainly solid. Only issue is Bread and him defending. But they say the best way to defend is to have the puck and drive play, which both he and Bread can do.
