Hornqvist has a Cap hit of 5.3, not 5.9. Not saying it will happen, but bottom 6 depth is needed and his contract is only 1 year. This year isnt an issue. Next offseason is more of a crunch, but even then we should wait and see what happens with revenue and the Cap.

Hornqvist is only a possibility if he gets bought out imo

great talent but hard for a team to invest a top pick into a kid battling cancer. hate saying that but unfortunately cancer isnt a torn acl.
There are many athletes who had a great career after battling cancer, he's already finished treatment and was cleared for training June 3rd. I'm not saying I'd risk a top 10 pick on him, but if he falls out of the 1st round I'd swing for the fences rather than make the "safe" pick. He's a top 3 talent

While that's fair, I think he is only a possibility as a trade option using pieces the team needs to move out anyways to acquire depth. Florida would basically be our way of turning Nemeth and either Goat or Hajek into something useful.

If we sign depth, it should be the Carpenter, Cousins, Sturm, Blackwell, Janmark mold.

That's why he's a bad fit at his salary. He's a good player though. If he was a FA he would be the perfect guy to try to get as a cheap vet deal. Extremely high volume shooter, one of the highest in the league, big time net front guy, blocks shots, perfect complementary player to play with a great playmaker.

Stop using the low ice time as a point that he's not good. He's a RW on a team that had Reinhart/Verhaeghe ahead of him and was PP2 on a team with very heavy PP1 usage. Then late in the season it dropped as they added another RW in Giroux. Which of those guys did you expect him to play over?
I am not going to debate the value of taking a guy off of florida that was relegated to the 4th line bc they had so many better players than him and try to justify putting him on a 2nd line with a player we hope will remain a top 10 winger in the game. Are you listening to what you are saying?? This isn't 2018 hornqvist.

This guy isnt good enough to play on a top 3 line there so lets grab him at 36 years old and slot him with panarin?

yikes

second round is different than 20 as was suggested...

Pierre Engval is buried in TO after a few guys....big kid...plays like heck against us or is it because he likes MSG ? Worth a shot as a 3rd or 4th line C that might be able to move up with more skilled wingers if needed . He is only 26....and had a decent playoff ! RFA .....Gauthier & Hajek ?

Not sure of your source of confusion here.

Hornqvist is a worse player than Giroux, Reinhart, Verhaeghe.

The Rangers highest scoring player who may play RW next year has a career high of 31 points.

listening to canadian radio and most of the people that watch him regularly cant stand him bc he is like a gentle giant that generally does not play engaged or physical. not what I would be looking for in a bottom 6 guy. I would like to find the energy guys for that role, not the guys that we need to push to stay engaged.

and if hornqvist is your best option you have bigger issues. he is not a top 6 player on a team that is aiming for playoff success at this point in his career.

The Rangers have their own 2nd round pick in 2023. Just one pick in the first three rounds this draft.

The Rangers need Frank Seravalli to run an NHL team. He would give the Rangers anything for Georgiev. He loves Georgiev. The Rangers would get multiple draft picks for Georgiev.

we’ve seen Georgiev enough to know he’s a very good goalie when he gets the bulk of the work .

My concern is a Sather like throwaway

There is a salary cap.

You need cheap depth. You can not go into the season hoping Kakko/Laf/Kravtsov happen to work out as your top 3 with no fall back plan. That would require making moves at the deadline again. That is being extremely optimistic. They should have every chance to win the role but there has to be someone behind them that does not mean playing McKegg/Hunt and such if it doesn't work as hoped.

Unfortunately he is not cheap so he is not a great fit. Obviously it makes no sense for them to retain 50% and then give him away for Nemeth to offset the salary for us since that does nothing for them.

Saying throwaway implies we have the ability to keep him.
Anything we get back for him is extra assets.
He will either be traded for nickels, or become a UFA when we don’t qualify him.
He’s not getting us any big return because everyone knows if they wait it out he’s a ufa.

20s-40s I said
I'd personally take the chance late 1st round, I think if he falls to the 30s/40s it'd be crazy not to
if he is in 2nd round it is a no brainer, but the bs russian factor alone has pushed some guys done near 20 on its own.

There is a salary cap.
funny how they found vatrano then. there are better options to find for a top 6 opportunity than a 36 year old on the downturn.

Wouldn't shock me if they do try and go the Colin White route with this. Clearly needs a new place to play. Ottawa has younger/cheaper options at center they want to use (Norris/Stutzle/Pinto). 4.75 lines up with what Strome was making last season, so the cap implications would be minimal. Maybe you get Ottawa to retain a little bit as well.
White isn't close to worth his cap hit, and he makes that for 3 more years.

If we want him, we can just wait for Ottawa to buy him out. He's only 25, so the buyout is only 1/3rd the remaining salary.

Not really - I believe Drury is conducting a silent auction as we speak .

The media pumps who the Rangers tell them to pump. Cam Talbot was getting traded for McDavid.

The reality is that the auction is a silent one because these teams aren't going to be saying very much.

If they muster a 5th rounder for Georgiev I'd be floored.
correct, teams around the league know nyr isnt accepting an arbitration award this summer, they cant afford to.

Did I read correctly that the Rangers have an out next July from Panarin’s deal ?
