$8.5M AAV for 8 years.
I just don't see how that works.

Sure, trade Kreider or Trouba... IF they are willing to waive...

We do gain nearly $3.5M of capspace from clearing buyout penalties... maybe that's enough, along with bridging KAM and Laffy.

Mason Marchment. Elliotte Friedman wrote Marchment was gone and someone told him that's not the case. Florida is trying to re-sign Marchment. We talk about asset management with Copp. Florida traded two first round picks for rentals. Florida isn't keeping at least one of those players. Florida can put Duclair on long-term IR for 1/2 of next season. They will need more space this summer. They will need space to re-sign Huberdeau and Weegar for 23-24.

Miller most plays on the left wall on the PP in Van. With the Rangers there are two players who would play there ahead of him and with the personnel the Rangers have it wouldn't make sense to play him on the left wall or the bumper. So that would force them to play him on the right wall and force Zibanejad back to the bumper. He wouldn't be running the PP here. I don''t like the fit.
I’ve seen Miller hit the one timer on the PP right circle for Vancouver several times. Stick him there. The thing with the Rangers powerplay is it has a chance to be so dangerous. Or put Miller on unit 2 so the PP runs through him.

Colin White should be our target. Will be cheap and can fill Strome’s shoes no problem. Although I think his preference is Boston, and I think Boston will be very interested considering they don’t have a 2C or 3C. Coyle is a winger first and Studnicka hasn’t stepped up or improved

I like JT Miller a lot. Think he would be a great fit and worth it even as a rental if the cost was more reasonable than has been reported. He would not score as much but could still make the team a lot better.

But there is a big part of me that would just be so pissed off about trading a good 25 y/o player in a horrendous trade and then reacquiring him, likely paying through the nose likely more than the NYR received when dealing him, as a one year rental.

Or worse deciding to give him a horrible contract for his worst end of career years. Owning the player for all the years but his most productive per $ years and paying a ton in assets for the privilege. So so soooooo inefficient. The NYR way.

I dont think a trade for one year of JT would really be measured by point totals, more about the success of the team. Giving up assets for a one year rental is a valid concern though. You can tell Vancouver wants the Rangers to pony up with all these rumors that NJ & NYI are interested.

The middle ground on a 2C is Dubois (who no one seems to want either). 2 years before hes a UFA, only 24, plays a solid even strength game with grit that we desperately need in the top 6. Coming to a big market, which he wants, and playing for a new contract on a Cup contender is a good situation for the team and player. They should make it happen if they can.

I'm more agreeable to Dubois if they can sign him long term than I am Miller

I think a lot of teams are going to be offering Colin White an opportunity to get himself going again.

Good speed. Tenacious forechecker and strong on the puck. Good in his own end. Had his most productive season as the 3rd best guy on his line between Stone and Tkachuk. Put him between Kakko and Panarin and see if he can create space for those two and get to the net.

Question is whether or not the Rangers are willing to gamble or if they're determined to get someone more proven.

You're basically playing with fire on a KAM or Laf offer sheet at that point, even if you can dump one of Kreider or Trouba.

Granted, I know offer sheets rarely happen. But I also don't like creating a scenario where you're basically begging to be the outlier because every other team knows you need a super team friendly deal to resign a former #1 overall or potential top pairing DMan.

White is a good option to replace Rooney. Asking an oft-injured player to solidify a middle 6C spot is too much of a risk for this team, especially if your other top 9 center is Chytil, who is also always injured.

I highly doubt he would have become the player he is today if he were to stay with the Rangers. He said it was a wakeup call when he was traded and he has matured as a player. That being said, including him in that McDonagh trade was straight up horrible.

People are so afraid of acquiring a player and having his point production drop. I want the guy capable of driving the bus, even if he wouldn't be asked to here.
We have two of those up front and one of those on defense. I don't think people fear acquiring said player, just that the cost is extremely high.

On top of that, we have various young players that need to be able to grow into that. If you get JT Miller, or anyone else that drives the bus, are we maximizing Lafreniere and Kakko? The biggest thing for this team was that these two would take the jump. They need that opportunity to make the jump.

The playoffs were a microcosm of this. The reason the team was able to move further was because those two, and Chytil, made a leap that they previously had not. It was for 20 games, but it was 20 games against high quality competition. This wasn't a 20 game sample where it was a weakened schedule.

We're also looking at the first full season where they actually had an offseason and then played games, mostly uninterrupted. Chytil was his 2nd season like that.

Lets see if any of them can start driving the bus for a prolonged period of time. It'll be a lot cheaper and does not impact the contention window.
