Speculation: Roster Building Thread LXXXV: Sell some now, buy some later

I’d be interested to see if Gorton uses the open expansion protection slot on defense in any trade situations

Add Zib (retaining~2M) to Vegas for one of Glass/Krebs and a 2nd.
B. Smith at 50% to a contender for a 3rd.
Maybe - doubtful - some playoff bound team with injuries would take a flyer on ADA at the deadline for a small piece?
I would like that hard nosed center Lowry currently in Winnipeg as a UFA.
Keep stockpiling affordable assets
Be ready to cash some of them in the coming 2 offseasons. There will be many opportunities to improve the team considerably then...

Id love for Gorton to have Quinn sit in his office while he speakerphone other GM's and offers Howden for any available better-than-forth-line player and listen to the other GM's responses. Maybe then, it would sink into that thick Irish skull.

You’re right. However, Howden *hasn’t* been successful there. He has in fact been the team’s worst regular among forwards on the PK

Love me some Lowry....but that will require likely an over payment as a UFA . I have to believe he will have some good offers from a few clubs that lack that aggressive type C man . Personally I don't mind overpaying for that type of guy ....a half million or so not that big a deal if he is a glue guy that makes life harder for the other club since we don't have many currently in our top 9 that can bring that every night . The influx has to start somewhere for upgrades .

like I said this organization can't even scout talent properly . Lafy should have not been a first overall pick. he should have been a 2ed round pick. he is not doing well for a reason. :sarcasm: Howden is only on the roster to safe face from the Bolts trade. Hajek is also not that good. AHL depth at best. Rangers scouting needs to improve before this organization improves even at the NHL and junior levels. Jack Johnson a warrior are you kidding me. most teams would have Reunanen (given a look, he will be the next Ryan Graves and on a new team making his NHL debut with them or will bolt back to Europe.)

Everything and everyone looks like its in slow motion and so lethargic. That falls on the coach. The whole team looks so unresponsive and flat. They look dead in the water.

I cannot recall one game this year when a player besides maybe the goalie, came off the ice dripping sweat. Think about it.

If you look at the tape of their sticks, it's too white.

But


What really grinds my gears though is :


The Gatorade and or water bottles look too full if they were working hard they would have to drink water.

And if that’s the case a forward who had some promise who didn’t make it here. I mean can one f***ing young Forward player totally Meet or exceed expectations?!
 


would rather keep Strome with Kreider, since they’re both playing well recently, and any success Strome has playing with linemates not named Panarin increases his trade value. Use Panarin to jumpstart Zib and Laf.

They can't fore-check and win any puck battles, cycle is not even in their vocab. They seem to not have any sort of timing, even when they shoot, when they don't pass while in the shooting lane, no one is near the crease to screen, deflect, get a rebound. Carrying the puck into the zone, sure only certain players have that talent, and they too are dumping it in, where is the pass option? He's either stationary or behind the play. Blah, blah, blah and that is just offensively. Defensively they have improved somewhat and their tending is letting them down, yet it's not like their offense has dried up because they are locking it down in their own end.

Bruins are a much better team, so there is that too, yet young teams usually look at least quick, energetic, hungry, sure they make a ton of errors but this last game looked like a vet team who has lost their will to play.
