Strome, Buch, Lundkvist and a 1st is fair offer imo; salary offset is somewhat close.

Only reason we offer Lundkvist, is because of Schneider. He fits the mold JD is looking for.

Kravtsov replaces Buch.
Eichel replaces Strome.

We lose a 1st rounder and possible another 'B level prospect'

The rest of your post aside (which I thought was spot on) this is a really interesting question/perspective. I don't know who is available that would fit that mold but this is a good reminder for those who have gotten swept up in the Eichel-mania, myself included, that it isn't a be all end all type of trade. If we could land him for a "reasonable" price, sure who wouldn't want to do that. But your question of whether or not it's a necessity is probably what will determine whether or not Eichel ends up here. If Gorts & co think so, they'll get him. If not, then they'll set their price and let things shake out.

And as a side note, a 22-23 year old Derek Stepan would be a perfect fit for this team, IMO. He came along a few years too early...

Agree that a young Step is exactly what we need.

As far as who is out there now, it's hard to say. We've talked a lot around here about the Rangers being interested in the guys out of Calgary, Monahan and Lindholm. So they'd naturally be options. Colin White in Ottawa was a player who was rumored to be available to start the year but has picked up his game. Doesn't even need to be a guy who has had success previously. Look at Zacha in Jersey. We've been shitting on the Debs for blowing that pick for the last several years and now he's got 14 points and 8 goals in 17 games. Joel Eriksson-Ek in Minny is another guy who's been shit on for a few years as a disappointment and he's taken a big leap forward and is exactly the sort of player who would fit between our high-skill wingers.

Point being if we land that guy I expect most of the fan base to hate it, haha.

The most I'd be willing to give up is Buch, Chytil, Robertson and a 1st.

I really like Chytil, but Eichel is an amazing player and acquiring him via trade is always gonna hurt.

that's not enough salary going the other way.

IMO JD does not move Robertson or Schneider. They are integral pieces to the puzzle imo

I'd be less concerned with moving Robertson, who I really like, but as a LD and with Miller and Lindgren already in the NHL, along with guys like Reunanen and Hajek who could be depth options, I'm okay including him to move it across the line. I also really like Zac Jones...

So if the deal was:

Chytil + Buch + Robertson + NYR 1st

I would be okay with that. It would sting, but it's something I can live with. Keeping Schneider, Lundqvist and Kravtsov out of the deal would be ideal of course...

If Chytil plays it “looks like” one of Lemieux, Gauthier or Brodzinski will be a scratch?

I’m sorry, this isn’t f***ing rocket science and there’s absolutely NO excuse for this even being a topic worth spending 10 seconds thinking about, Quinn. If Chytil plays, Brodzinski is a scratch. The end. The absolute end.

It will be Gauthier because who the hell knows...

Because it’s literally a lineup based off of who says “yes sir!” the most and shows good intentions in practice. Being an NHL player is irrelevant. If you’re one of Quinn’s “good boys” who cares if you’re closer to an ECHLer than an NHLer?

Salary needs to match, in a hypothetical Eichel trade.

Strome and Buch
Strome and ADA
ADA and Buch

In that scenario, ADA and Buch is the only one that makes sense, since you're not giving up 2 of your top9 centers.

speaking of which id hope the Rangers would push Buchnevich for that reason over kravtsov as the final piece but that could be a sticking point so even better:

Strome Buchnevich lundkvist and our first rounder

that's what I came up with as well.

Unless Zibs is involved. I could see an off-season 3way trade with Eichel and Zibs involved

Gauthier was taking line rushes at 3RW yesterday with Chytil and Rooney. Brodzinski is most likely the scratch.

Instead of getting mad for no reason, just take the one extra minute to do the research people.

That is my research. I’m not the one creating that content. I’m not just deciding to speculate based on my own feelings. That’s a page I follow that provides me with (96% accurate) daily updates. They have quotes from Quinn and other news every single day. I have a job and a life; these sources that have proven to be plugged in and provide accurate updates and insights everyday are my research. I didn’t manifest that myself. Therefore, I read that and assume that is based off an answer Quinn gave and that a decision hasn’t been made yet. My point was simply that there should not BE any decision to make. Deciding who comes out for Chytil should be the simplest, most cut and dry decision of the year so far.

If I had to guess, management would replace Lindgren with Robertson eventually. On depth chart and eventually off the roster.

Lindgren is a good player. I just don't think he's the 'end-game' top4.

Right Side is filled with Trouba and Fox for the foreseeable future.

Once again, this is just speculation, but based on what JD has been saying, Robertson and Schnedier are 1st choices for the big club. Big and mobile defenseman. Lundkvist is a great talent and our best prospect but we already have Fox and Trouba locked in.

Friedman was on SN960 yesterday and said the Sabres solicited offers from teams over the summer on Eichel but decided not to act on them. They did it because he was unhappy. The situation is clearly deteriorating and the clock is ticking until his NMC kicks in and the Sabres will be facing their own Nash situation. If he asks for a trade and the league catches wind of it, Buffalo loses most of the leverage they have in negotiations.

Only a couple of teams can realistically make that sort of trade in season. Us and LA are the obvious ones. Calgary might be looking for that kind of massive shake up. The Rangers nor the Kings are going to surrender their elite prospects like Laf, Kakko, and Byfield. That leaves guys like Turcotte, Vilardi, Kupari, and Fagemo for LA. Lundkvist, Kravtsov, Robertson, and Schneider on the table from our side. In terms of potential I think the groups are similar and the decision would come down to need. The Rangers have some more 25-and-under NHL talent they could spare where LA is mostly veterans. So it really boils down to whether or not the Sabres want to nuke everything and start over, or if they're leaning more towards a retooling and hope they can get a combination of existing NHL talent and higher-potential kids who are right about to make the jump. For example, Turcotte might be the "sexier" prospect because he's a center, but he struggling in a pro league at 19 while Nils was quite literally a record setter at the same age in his pro league. He could step in next season and possibly be a 2nd pairing NHL D. Could Turcotte step in next year and center a scoring line in the NHL? Seems unlikely.

The Rangers also have something the Kings might not have: A youngish goalie that the Sabres have been linked to previously.

From the Rangers side of things, the argument against Eichel -- aside from the price -- is whether or not we need a center of his caliber with Panarin, Laf, Kakko, Kreider, Buch, and Kravtsov/etc as our group of wingers. Would we be better served with guys in the mold of Bergeron or Toews who can bring that defensive element and compliment those high-skill wingers? Could we pluck a guy off the reclamation pile like the Canes did with Vinny Trocheck last year? I was a big fan of going after Dvorak last season and he's taken that big step forward some of us were anticipating. Someone with 3 or 4 years left on a reasonable contract but they've fallen out of favor or are underperforming. That player might be a better fit not only financially but stylistically as well.

I'd land Eichel and then go shopping with Zibanejad as bait for the young Bergeron/Toews type.

Your point comes off as extra ridiculous considering there is not 12 NHL-ready forwards nor 6 NHL caliber defensemen on the active roster even when it's healthy/at full strength.

I assume this crybaby attitude is tied to DeAngelo, who is an asshole and better away from the team at this point.

Yeah I'm not doubting there are guys out there that would fill the need, just a matter of if they can actually be had and if their cost, relative to the cost for Eichel, is worth it.

I do think there needs to be a plan for 1C beyond Zibanejad, however. I'm a huge fan of Zib's but it's getting harder for me to come to terms with paying like a 1C at 29 years old. I also don't think the draft is really the answer anymore, given the risk of missing on another pick and the time it takes for young players to really get up to speed...Zacha and Eriksson-Ek being prime examples.

All of this leads back to your original question though...how necessary is a legitimate top-tier 1C like Eichel?

So you're assuming that a team who has a player like that is willing to trade them? For a soon-to-be FA in the midst of a nightmare season no less?

I'm convinced there's no way an Eichel trades comes off without one of Zibanejad, Kakko, or Lafreniere being involved. But stranger things have happened when a situation becomes untenable, and Eichel/Buffalo are headed there.

Derek Ryan on waivers

last season was 52.6% on FOs
Calgary Flames- Face-off stats - 2019 - Puckbase

Cap Hit $3.125M, pending UFA

I'd be interested, just don't know if it's worth bothering because we have a bunch of those bottom-6 types and it's not like he'd be top-6...or would be? Not like we're aiming to compete just yet.

Zib - Strome - Chytil - Howden...plus Rooney, Blackwell, and Brodzinski can all play C.
