Well, from the start of the season Blackwell has been more effective than Lafreniere so maybe he earned the first chance on PP1. After all this board talks tirelessly about “deserving” and “accountability”.

It also obvious that Quinn is making a handedness a priority for building PP units.
5v5 should not be the only measure for PP1 time.

Lafreniere, at the moment is arguably the most talented player on the bench. There's no way to spin this. It doesn't mean Blackwell can't find success, it just means Lafreniere was the better choice.

Montgomery indicated he had other coaching options but that he chose Dallas. The implication was that his other option was the Rangers.

He is a recovering alcoholic and according to St. Louis media, he has been a model citizen as an assistant coach.

He would be an interesting choice if/when it comes to that.
Can you imagine the Twitter brigade if we hired him... they would blow a gasket

If and when Quinn gets whacked, just remember this will still be a very young team with a mandate to develop young players. Look, I'm intrigued by Gallant because of what happened in Vegas but was that because it was more of a veteran team? I don't know if Gallant is the right coach for that situation.

One guy I think may be considered for a second chance is Jim Montgomery.
Bob....I was told that Gallant and the GM had a disagreement on how they wanted to play . I'm not a coach and I never watch Vegas and have no clue on their style of play but I had heard that the GM wanted to lean more towards the opposite style that Gallant was utilizing which obviously did not fly with Gallant and thus he was let go . Whether there is any truth to that....I don't know . It came from a friend of a friend....and that is the story that has been most often used around Gallant's hometown where everybody knows everybody kind of deal.

What most of you Quinn haters are starting from is your ego, i.e. that you think you know better than him.

To me Quinn earned the benefit of a doubt based on how prospects progressed under him. Buchnevich, Chytil, Kakko, Fox, Lindgren, Miller (even ADA) - all moved in the right direction developmentally. So when Quinn does something that I might not agree with - I’d try to figure out where he’s coming from rather than cry and shout.

Recent case in point - how many pages of outrage have been made about bringing Jack Johnson and how he’s going to steal time away from prospects or more deserving vets. So where are we on this? JJ is being f***ing Bitetto on the depth charts!

So the point is before you go into frenzy - check your ego, try being more humble and give the coach a benefit of a doubt, at least from developmental prospective.

P.S. Lafreniere is going to be just fine.
Nobody is crying and shouting. They were simply pointing out the chance for LaF to get minutes on the PP with better players while we have so many guys out of the line up. Some people will die on the hill to protect Quinn even when the most logical thing is right there hanging out of his ass. Nobody said LaF is going to suck, nobody called for Quinn to be fired. But why does he do certain things that go against logic?? There’s really no defense for it. That’s all that had to be said and move on. Just like the constant yo-yoing of shesty and Georgiev early in the year. He finally came to his senses and rode the horse. Quinn may be a great guy and a great coach, but he keeps doing things over and over that defy logic and reasoning until finally he relents. Certain line up and in game decisions are amateurish at best and crazy at worst.

Makes sense. Number one job for the coach is get along with the GM. I’ve got a lot of respect for Gallant but sometimes we forget he’s been fired 3X. I don’t know the backstory on every job but he’s a risk. All coaches are.

If the Rangers do make a change, it will probably be someone with ties to Gorton and/or JD.

I truly can't believe we have Blackwell on PP1, playing in the high slot and Laf playing the slot on PP2. This is mind numbing... it can work but it's horrible optics and imo could be very bad for morale. Why isn't a player like Laf given the opportunity?

I didn't see it yesterday and I thought people were meme'ing
Is Blackwell the new fast?

Yup...that is usually how things go ....the supposedly safe option ! Oh well...maybe the team gets healthy and the kids throw some numbers up and we put pedal to the medal and get the last spot....one never knows as it has been a crazy last 365 days give or take....hope for the best ! Stay safe !

I think some of the discussion regarding Lafreniere and the PP got off track.

My comment and I believe this in my core, is that Quinn is NOT making the decision on Lafreniere alone.

Any organization worth anything is going to come to a consensus on what is best for the player and team today, tomorrow, next year and five years from now.

The fact that Lafreniere is not being give PP1 run right now has 100% buy in from JG and JD.

I do not agree with the approach, but this is not all on DQ.

Hes doing enough to get fired on his own, his handling of the player is organizationally approved and to think otherwise I believe is agenda driven regarding wanting DQ fired.

It also disingenuous to say that DQ had no hand in either Fox or Miller development.

Both are good talents, and they may have gotten to where they are now regardless, but to completely dismiss the idea that DQ has been somewhat instrumental in their growth is not being 100% honest

It's been a disappointing season. I'm disappointed in many of our players, the coaches, management, the play of Lafreniere...But I think the person I'm most disappointed with is Jeff Gorton. It honestly feels like he's sitting on his hands and twiddling his thumbs while Rome is burning. He traded Staal, bought out Lundqvist, and then proceeded to luck into the #1 overall pick and has done nothing since (signing Jack Johnson and Kevin Rooney. Be still, my beating heart). I know he's not on vacation, but he might as well be because he's doing zip. Meanwhile, the team is struggling, the best prospect we've ever had is underperforming and we have a host of off-the-ice distractions.
