This to me is the type of excuse I am talking about! It’s about “what the kids have done”. It’s about if they ‘are the game breaking talents we thought they are’.

Look, take my word for it. Kakko and Laf are talented. They are also teenagers, the NHL is a tough league to play in for kids. But we as an organization cannot afford to drop the ball on two top 2 picks. We got the talent, now — management — must turn that talent into top special players in the NHL.

Blaming what you got to work with with these two, nah, that don’t fly for me. And even becoming “good players” eventually aren’t even remotely enough. Not even remotely. We must turn them into great players. DQ got Kakko focusing on defense and gives him minimal PP time. Is that the right way?
I think we’re talking past each other. I’m 100% in your camp on this.

Rangers likely get a top 10 pick, and I could definitely see that as a main piece for Eichel

1st rounder + Buchnevich/Zib* + Robertson/Schneider + Kravstov/2022 1st

*assuming Zib continues to still have a very down year which would drop his value to similar that of Buch

I don't know how much that would actually be worth.

I've heard this draft is supposed to be BRUTAL.

That's fair, but Eichel has a large contract and after next year he has a NMC for the remainder of his contract, which would severely limit Buffalo's ability to move him.

Also, the prospects and players mentioned are very good for trade value in their own right.

It is clear that Buffalo needs to re-tool again with Dahlin being their main piece for the future. They have too many burdensome contracts weighing on them right now and for the near future. A 1 for 1 trade like what CBJ has done a couple times now is highly unlikely to be in the cards imo.

As far as the weak draft class goes, there is a lot more to the package than just that but it is a nice piece regardless as a top 10 pick. For instance, if we use Stepan's value at the time we traded him as a reference point (bear with me and don't use hindsight on how Stepan proceeded to play after, etc.), then we add the pieces that I mentioned (Buch/Zib, Schneider/Robertson, Kravstov/2022 1st).

I know there is a canyon of value difference between Stepan at the time we traded (age 27) him and Eichel with his huge ceiling at age 25 this offseason, but there is a crap ton of value being added on beyond the top 10 picks in comparably meh draft classes.

Last ranking i saw had like 4 or 5 UoM kids in the top 10-15 . Im far from a scout or any of the amateurs here, but that isn't a plus in my column for any of them including Beniers. All that says to me is they are a well oiled machine and a product of the sum of their parts.

Is there even a stand out "wow factor" Center in the top 10? Not from what I've read.

Beniers or Johnson will be good players but I’m not sure either is going top 10 with all the defensemen in the first Rd. Highly doubt either one of these guys will be the impact center we are looking for either

Gotta admit I bet the Rangers would lose last night. Just a couple of bucks but with games not being open to the public, I decided to allocate what I would spend on tickets into Draftkings. The great thing about betting on your team to lose is, if they lose there's a consolation prize, if they win, hey they still won! It's a great way to experience the game.

Prediction - Uncle Larry or Vince breaks the news on Twitter that David Quinn has been reupped to a new 5 year contract with a NFC. (NO FIRE CLAUSE) the morning of the 2021 draft. Then.

With the 5th overall pick the NY Rangers are proud to select, out of Lulea, Sweden, Goaltender Jesper.....

And just like that its like Thanos snapping his fingers. Half this board turns to dust.

Oh and to the HF GM wannabes who were loudly touting Joel Farabee at the 2018 draft and pre draft threads. Very nice job.

He's a player.

Ill take that bet all day long that they wont go top 10.

I actually think Michigan will have 3 players in the top 10 this year.

You could be right. Look at what Montreal did with Kotka. Centers are always in demand. It all depends where these teams have the guys rated and if they are drafting for need or BPA

This is similar to what I'd think is a fair (If conservative) package for Eichel. Though I think Robertson, Jones, and Lundkvist are all more likely to be dangled than Schneider considering how much the Rangers FO likes him.

Dealing both Buchnevich and Kravtsov leaves a little bit of a hole at right wing, but Gauthier, Blackwell, and Strome can always fill holes there.

Panarin-Eichel-Strome
Lafreniere-Zibanejad-Kakko
Kreider-Chytil-Gauthier
Lemieux-Rooney-Blackwell

Beniers is gone by 5.

And I'll definitely take someone in he mold of Bergeron/Cirelli.
