Maybe we can trade all of our great prospects for him and have two top centers going through the motions.

this franchise desperately needs a shakeup and if it’s not going to be Quinn it’s probably time to make a legit move not all these kids can play here and get the mins they need

Who is being stupid? Who goes around praising the work of Trotz's or Gallant's assistant coaches? Who praises Sullivan's assistant coaches.

You can have whatever doubts you feel like and I have stated that the real answer is that of course Martin has had an influence. But seeing as to the development and progress the defense had last year from the first game to the last with Ruff and not Martin, I am going with the fact that Quinn gets his kudos for player development.
WHEN THE ASSISTANT COACH DOES A COMPLETE TURN AROUND WITH THE TEAM. that's when. Provide a similar scenario and that coach would be getting praise.

The turn around followed Martin's arrival.

I was reading about Virtanen by a Canucks fan, it was one person but he did NOT like him at all.

Virtanen is like, 85% Del Zotto and 15% like something else personality wise. Our fanbase never saw MDZ become a Staal or Glass level antagonist but Canucks fan base has but it's disappointment more than frustration of being over used by the coach.

THE TURNAROUND OF THE DEFENSE OCCURED LAST YEAR AS THE YOUNGER PLAYERS GREW AND LEARNED. IT TOOK ANOTHER STEP FORWARD THIS YEAR WITH THE ARRIVAL OF MARTIN. OR DID YOU NOT WATCH LAST YEARS GAMES FROM START OF SEASON TO END?

Who are you suggesting gets more ice time at center right now? Strome? Howden?
Rooney and/or Blackwell. Players who are playing well and producing.

on the PP anyone who deserves it. They'd have roughly the same chance to win the faceoff.

I dont even know how to respond to this statement.

Winning games does not equal sound defensive structure. We 'played well' (ie won games ) when Shesty was breakdancing on his head and Panarin and Zibs were on fire. We were not remotely close to this good defensively last year. To even suggest we were on this path, is absurd

Wasn't this the lesson of the last 'window'? You need superstars. You need players at the top of the draft. It's not just optics, it's results and it does matter. Nobody will be complaining about Fox and Shesterkin and Miller (who 12 games in is a little early to speak that highly of) if they excel, you're right. But having depth and churning out top ten picks that fall two levels down from where they're projected every time is not acceptable. It's a huge red flag about our player development -- if that's how it ends up, which I'm not saying outright.

I mean how does last season go with our two all world forwards being second line players?

Honestly I think the biggest lessons from the 2006-2015 window were

1) Dont give big long contracts to 2nd line players, or players older than 30.
2) Don't re-sign players you suspect will age poorly
3) You can't get all your stars via UFA
4) You can find good players undrafted out of the NCAA if you look hard enough
5) You need to find bargain bin players who work well because of chemistry (Stralman, Pouliot, Prospal)

We already kind of broke rule 1 with Kreider. Rule 3 means Panarin was our one big splurge for UFA.

It's been nearly 4 weeks... what's the word on Chytil?

is it going the full 6 weeks? Hopefully back in early March

Last year, overall they were poor. But if you were watching the way that they played at the beginning and the way the played in the last 20 games or so, it was night and day. To deny this is absurd.

Ok. Let's bench Mika and install Rooney or Blackwell at center. Players like Rooney tend to get exposed in such roles. But I guess you are not expecting that.
Yeah, if you take away 5 minutes from Mika and spread it among the rest, it's going to be catastrophic. If you give his PP time to someone else, it's going to be much worse than his play.

Things get amplified by Chytyl's injury. Were he healthy, I would be completely on board with what you are suggesting. But inserting Rooney to time away from ZBad just sounds like a terrible idea. Rooney has been great. In his role. Not sure he is built for anything else.

Some one should take over his PK duties. That’s where he’s most replaceable.

Strome Buch Rooney Howden Lemieux Kreider and Blackwell can all PK. That’s seven forwards and more than enough.
Now this, I would be on board with. But am not sure that his issues spill over to the PK. PK has been more than fine.

We didn't have any stars -- except Lundqvist.

The next closest thing was Nash, who we traded for, and for one run, St. Louis, who we also traded for.

We didn't give big contracts to 2nd line forwards. We gave big contracts to Marc Staal and Dan Girardi.

And all of our success amounted to a single win in a Stanley Cup final.

We didn't just re-tool, keeping mid-20s, good players like Miller and Hayes. We tore everything down so that we could stockpile talent and we got lucky enough to draft 1st and 2nd overall in back to back years. Listen to Gorton discuss winning those lotteries -- he specifically identifies that teams need to get those high picks to build perennial contenders. If what you get out of those picks are JVR and Bobby Ryan, you're f***ed.

I would imagine the Rangers are hoping Seattle takes Strome rather than DeAngelo

Although their front office is filled with smart people who value analytics so they won’t touch Strome with a ten foot pole
