everyine who’s being qualified has basically been qualified except for Strome. And I don’t mean just us. I mean around the entire nhl. He’s gotta be the biggest name. It’s not normal

Unless it screws up some unknown humongous deal, ahem Eichel, I’d pay Strome 4-4.5 to stick around 1 year tops. Buys us time and some short term competitiveness even if he walks. 60 one dimensional points is still 60 points from the 2C if he can repeat

Yeah but I think the buyout window closes after the submission deadline.

Maybe they're waiting it out (they probably are) to see if anything shakes loose last minute but its still weird.

Don't forget that Bobby Clarke was just flabbergasted that the Rangers took Sanguinetti because the Flyers REALLY REALLY wanted him and were getting excited that he was so close to falling to them. Clarke actually forgot Giroux's name at the podium because he was so set on taking Sanguinetti and then had to settle for this other guy.

I remember it being the other way around. The flyers were whispering out loud for Sanguinetti because they really wanted Giroux. They pumped Sanguinetti up so we would take him to keep him away from the Flyers. I could be wrong though.

I think the rangers know Strome is useless away from Panarin and they also know he is an idiot and can’t be trusted playing top 6 mins either. So where does he fit? Not on a winning team that’s for sure.

That's the point. They've told him he can go ahead, even though per league rules it's not allowed until Friday.

Maybe they are threatening to not QO Strome and let him walk to get him to take a multi year deal at ~$3.5M?

I could see FO doing this, but how much of a threat of that is that to Strome? He is coming of a season of peak performance. Going UFA might be his best shot right now. More likely than not, this is just a value decision.

If youre trying to avoid a > $4 million commitment to a player that doesn't drive offense, it makes a lot of sense.

With Buffalo's permission, he's allowed to talk to everyone. That allows him to get out in front of the market.
