He also had Chytil in that conversation IIRC.

Yeah, and it was not in relation to 2C, he was asked which position he would like to upgrade and said that center is a position no team in the league would turn down a player at, and that they possibly might look for an upgrade there, but that Chytil, Lias and Howden also certainly would get a shot to prove what they have, or something along those lines.

Just so that it doesn’t become a truth that Gorts “promised” that those three would get a shot to prove what they have there or whatever.

Hanks not an issue this year. But next year when shesterkin is banging on the door and hank looks more and more like Sam Elliott it’s going to have to be addressed. I honestly don’t think this management team has any interest in losing georgiev or Shesterkin because of Hank.

You could also argue that management wouldn’t be doing their jobs if they didn’t know what they could get for Georgiev while knowing what they have in Lundqvist at the same time focusing on Shesty’s transition. I’m sorry but ruling out a possibility of Shesty adapting quickly and trading Georgiev would be asinine despite having the greatest European goalie on his last two years of his contract.

Could see this year as

Hank getting 50 games
Georgiev getting 25 games
Shesty getting 5 games

Following year

Hank—40
Georgiev—25-30
Shesty—5-10

Then Hanks gone and the Rangers divide the games between Georgiev and Shesty
Something like

Georgiev—45-50
Shesty—25-30

Agreed but I still have a feeling Namestnikov goes for very little kinda like the Vegas Fiala Trade

Buch needs that money , 4 yrs 3.5 per
I agree. I assume actually a couple will have to go for peanuts.
But it could be worse is all I'm saying.
Like, the rangers won't have to attach assets and maybe get a useful depth player or two or a couple low draft picks.
Aside from Kreider (and Buch if he's really being discussed) who I hope JG holds the line on, the rest, like Strome, Namestnikov, Smith, Fast are in the Bargain Bin now.

I kind of see it Henrik--35 to 40 starts. Georgiev 30 to 35 and Shestyorkin 15 to 20.

I might as well add I don't think Henrik is trade-able and the reasons for that are his cap hit and his age. The reason a team might trade for a goalie is they absolutely believe he'll get them into the playoffs and I would think most if not every team would see decline in his game--after that the cap hit is pretty substantial (even if the Rangers retained on half) to make that kind of a gamble. A lot of teams even if inclined to trade for Henrik couldn't afford it. And after all that will be the blowback to the Rangers organization for trading him.

I also don't think Henrik is going to get 50 starts. Towards the finish last year he'd pretty much had lost the starter's role to Georgiev who was seriously outplaying him. That said the Rangers D should be better this year but OTOH I don't think Quinn is going to give near the leeway he did last year. Quinn knows Alex really well and if Henrik goes through a mediocre or bad stretch I don't think he'll hesitate to go with Alex and if he gets hot the job is his. I also think Igor is going to get a full shot at training camp and I expect the Rangers will want to get him into a number of games.

He's definitely going to be on the team but IMO Henrik is not necessarily the Rangers No. 1 right now. He's going to have to earn the job and prove it all season long to keep it and he's got some really serious competition capable of taking the starter job away.

Is it possible Lundqvist knows the limits of his own body Vs. You?

How do you know how hard he worked out on the ice?

How do you know how many times a week he does on ice training?

Is it possible you have no idea what you are talking about?

You should be embarrassed by your post. It is embarrassing to be in the same fandom as someone who is questioning the off ice training of Lundqvist without any context of his training.

The problem with older players is that they DONT know their bodies better than the average fan that is watching them decline year in and year out.

To be fair to Lundqvist, he was excellent last year until after Thanksgiving when the team started playing mediocre. That Islanders game at MSG when they won like 5-0 was the peak performance of last season and ironically, Georgiev started.

Georgiev was incredibly inconsistent until he started playing basically every game in February/March. He'd have two good games and a real clunker before.

The defense was a mess and the team had no injury depth.

What should happen this season is Lundqvist gets the chance to play 45-50 games and if he's great, awesome. Georgiev should get like 20-30 depending on how Henrik performs and Shstyorkin gets his feet wet with 5. This all goes out the window if Lundqvist continues to regress.

I still laugh when people get upset at the Leetch trade. They got awesome value for a rental who they could've signed back in the 2005 off season but was cooked from the year off + age.

Someone here said it best, Petr Sykora did more for the Rangers in 2006 than Brian Leetch did for the Maples Leafs ans Bruins combined. And if you weren't around for that quote do the research. LOL.

The only reason that trade wasn't a grand slam was because of bad injury luck and Maloney over valued Korpi (Maloney was not good at drafting look at his work in Phoenix for example). Immonen should have been an NHLer, I never got the foot speed thing in that era.

Barring injury, I don't see how Igor gets a single game in the NHL this season.

I also think Lundqvist gets better work load management and he essentially splits the net with Georgiev.

Not so sure having Hank out there yelling at the young Dmen night in and out is a good thing for the team either.....can't see him changing his ways while growing older and more frustrated .

The team needs to start building up the number of games both Shestyerkun and Georgiev play in a season. Ideally, they both get 50-55 games this year somewhere.

I dont know how Shesty is going to get any playing time in the NHL with Hank and Georgiev healthy...really interested to see how this shakes out.

Only concern I have is if Shesty shows he has the ability, but doesnt get the playing time and he gets disgruntled

Lundqvist has 100x more value to this organization than he brings back in a trade, even with 50% retained. He is the greatest Ranger, and arguably the greatest goalie of all time. Having these two very young goalies in Shestyorkin & Georgiev make me think it’s MORE important to keep Hank, I couldn’t imagine a better mentor than him. Plus it’ll be beautiful to see Captain Mika refuse to lift the cup and make Hank lift it first in 2021

Arguably the greatest goalie of all time?

No. There is no argument for that.
