Ahh ok so trouba would have to file. That’s a technicality though really. They could be taking time to see if they can find a trade partner if not trouba files and NYR then sign a him before it gets to arbitration and a 2nd window opens up correct?

You do realize that Shatty's cap hit next year would be north of 6 mil even with a buy out. There is absolutely no logic to buying him out.

So they just have to file. Don’t have to actually go thru with arbitration correct?
There's no reason for any of them to file unless each is far apart with the team on salary expectation. Gorton is still talking to their agents and the deadline to file is Friday. And filing is a last resort when only absolutely necessary as you're creating a contentious situation.

I think its us he wants to play for.

He has already been offered more money than we reportedly want to give him, yet we haven't heard anything imminent. I think he is trying to squeeze the best deal out of Gorton he can, even though it won't be the highest $$ amount he is offered overall.

This is based on nothing, but thats my prediction.

we sign him at 7/11.75

Islanders trying to acquire his UFA rights to add an 8th year shows, to me at least, that Panarin rejected their 7-year deal

This only makes sense if it was a sign and trade with CBJ. Nonetheless, it suggests a lot of uncertainty. It also suggests that Lou is worried that all things being equal between NYR and NYI, he's at least concerned Panarin chooses NYR.

That all said, this situation where it's a new team rumored to be front runners every 4-5 hours is so rare in modern day UFA -- at least for the Rangers. Usually, the insiders say team x and player y are working towards a deal and then it either happens or it doesn't and then it's onto the next rumored team. Here it's all over the map in a way we usually never see. It's a surprising tactic for an agent in modern times. Could lead to some burnt bridges if teams feel like they've been used to create leverage. This is just not really business as usual in the NHL these days.

For the Rangers it's not a big deal if they miss out on Panarin as they haven't made moves prior to make room for him. They're not worried about signing any of their own UFA. But this is a huge risk for LL. He's risking losing a second captain in 2 years if they miss out on AP. He will not be happy with AP or Theo.

Fine with it girardis monster hit basically disappears and offsets it. As does losing namestnikov and stromes money. Tight for one year big deal

This just makes no sense. So you're willing to prolong Shatty's cap hit for 2 additional years, while paying him basically the same as he would be as a body next year.

I mean....there is just absolutely no logic here whatsoever.

There is a reason though. Gorton could easily say hey tony go ahead and file for arbitration let’s wrap this deal up Saturday. Need a buyout window. Seems easy enough

If it means fitting panarin in and giving trouba DeAngelo and Fox their ice time sure. Zero problem with 1 mil cap hits with one big one next year.
