Frank said Panarin is looking for CMD money. $12M to $12.5M per. The Rangers are giving him that much?
I do trust they have a plan but if they give him that much, I'd be floored.
I just can't imagine they're going to lock up their top salary for seven years.

Brace yourself for the worst.

Comparing to McDavid money is stupid. Salary value increases year to year as the leagues growth increases. McDavid’s yearly AAV is probably worth $14-$15 at this point. Its not comparable for Panarin to draw on that
The cap is doing to be static for the next few years, I understand. And a new CBA will follow. So I don't expect unbridled inflation like we've seen the past few years.

I think they're both going to Florida too, but if the Rangers did manage to sign Panarin I would not be shocked. Maybe from his time in Columbus JD knows Panarin well enough to help the Rangers make the right pitch to convince him to come to NY.

I think that's where it becomes vague. I still think that's too much. But I'm no pro capologist. I just hope/believe Gorton has a long term plan.

Well this year they flip Namestnikov , Vesey for picks . Ideally Smith at 50 .

If they get Panarin done you keep Kreider and see how the year progresses ? I guess that’s the problem they just tried to deal him for a 1st but Panarin is a now kinda move

Someone Tweeted out the other day they expected Bob and Panarin to come in at $22mm combined. I think Florida will pay them that.

Could happen--let's wait until Monday though but that said I can't see it going any lower than $22 but I can see it going a little higher to $23. If they come in at $22--they have a 15 man roster with a little less than $2 mil to work with. Getting rid of Reimer without taking salary back would give them another $3.4 to work with but it will also mean they'll need another goalie. $5.4 mil to work with then for 5 players + a goalie to have a 21 man team. That's tight--they could diversify even further though moving Hoffman and/or Vatrano. Vegas is already dumping players--Haula, Miller--they're over to and may have to get another goalie. Moving Clarkson's contract might do the trick but if they can't they're going to have to find a taker for Eakins or Reaves and say goodbye to Gusev. It's interesting watching teams playing around with this.

They're going to if they haven't already.

But unless we're talking about the difference between 11.25 and 11.5, it shouldn't budge at all.

Given what we've heard of late from the front office, it sounds to me like the team has a plan, and theyre sticking to it. JG Seems like a guy who is poised and calculated, I can't see him or the organization getting into a bidding war beyond whats right for the team. They're committed to a rebuild the right way and they've proven that time and time again. It feels good to trust the team, and I do. If we land him, it'll be at a cost that works for the org and is the best move going forward.

I wonder if that Burakovsky deal means Colorado is our on Kreider. That’s a steep price to pay for Burakovsky honestly
There seem to be a Number of front offices who feel Burakovsky has a bunch of upside. Which kind of makes me feel Buchnevich must have tons of value.
That said, with Burakovsky I'm not feeling it. He has tools but maybe not the toolbox.

I could see Dallas but with their cap situation how does tb make sense for pavelski? Id think he’d have to take less there to fit so why not just take less to stay in Sj?

Term is not going to be the issue. Everyone knows before you make the phone call you’re going to have to be at 7 years.
Yeah I agree. He's picking the situation that's going to define his career. It has got to be seven years. He's not doing a "show me" deal.

Vesey has a very cheap buyout. $708,333 cap hit for this coming season. The Rangers save $1,566,667. $783,333 cap hit for 20-21. It might not be easy to move his $2.35M salary. His buyout would need to be completed by July 1. The Rangers can't buy him out after their last arbitration case. He makes less than the league average.

Strome has a cheaper buyout. 1/3. $433,333 cap hit for this coming season. The Rangers save $2,666,667. $533,333 cap hit for 20-21. $3,200,000 salary. Strome is in the same boat as Vesey making less than the league average.

The average salary was $2,750,000 in 2013. The average salary is higher than $3.2M.

Teams get a buyout window in late July/early August after their last arbitration case. The Rangers have Trouba and Buchnevich eligible for arbitration. Trouba and the Rangers are apparently close to a new contract. Buchnevich could be traded to make room. The filing date is next Friday.

Trade Kreider and his $4.625M.

Rangers save $8,858,334.

Buyout Smith. $970,833 cap hit for this coming season. The Rangers save $3,379,167. The cap hit for 20-21 is $3,145,833.

Rangers save $12,237,501.

Quinn can play his favorite lineup. 11 forwards and 7 D. Panarin will need to play on two lines for $12M a year.

$5,573,610 in cap space for the Girardi, Smith, Vesey and Strome buyouts in 20-21. That's two good players.

All of these moves to pay Panarin.

I don't disagree. I agree that the Rangers can *afford* Panarin at 12. My concern is that then becomes the team's biggest contract for the next seven years (basically...maybe in year six or seven the cap is so high they can match it).
So my worry is that the Rangers are tying their own hands so early in the rebuilding process. Just my opinion.

While I do think Strome is paid more than he's worth at this point (including Spooner retention), we shouldn't be buying him out this year...
