As they should.
$12M???????
Adam Rotter: There is a feeling from some around the league that while the Rangers are definitely interested and would love to add Panarin that they are not going to get into a bidding war and that he would likely need to pass up better offers to join them. If Panarin is determined to be a Ranger then something will get worked out, but it’s not believed he is dead set on being a Ranger in the way that Kevin Shattenkirk was. Shattenkirk turned down a reported seven-year deal at $7 million per season to fulfill his dream of being a Ranger. While Panarin is believed to have a lot of interest in the Rangers, it’s believed he will go with the team that makes him the best offer.
I don't understand why this is lost on so manyWhen the cap goes up, so do the salaries. 12m now is basically the same as 6m in 2006
The germane part of that article:
Our bid won't be the highest. Both the Islanders and the Panthers can afford to sign both him and Bob. Florida has the tax advantage.
Krav is 6'4"?

Unpopular opinion but I thought he looked better at center than wing@Edge Do the Rangers view Chytil as a center or LW for his NHL career?

You can’t add an 11 mil player without some of your best guys on entry level deals. So if the thinking is let’s add a guy in 2 or 3 years when kakko Fox Kravtsov and Chytil are established studs and getting paid as so well that’s prob too late.
you are talking about signing a guy for 7 years...so if its a bad idea in 2-3 years when those kids get raises, then its a bad idea now cause we aren't winning in the next 2 years
Always ask for more. It's a job interview. Ask for 100k a year even if you earn 50k in your previous job. Try to get as much out of it as you can.
But in 2 years we have 20+ million coming off the books with Lundqvist, Staal, Shattenkirk, Smith and most of Girardi off the books.

Partially because that 11M guy will cost 13-14M assuming the cap goes up.In 2 or 3 years some of your older guys come off the cap (like Staal Hank) while the cap at the same time increases and that contract is less and less of the overall percentage.
You aren’t adding an 11 mil a year guy the same year you have to pay kakko and Kravtsov.

"The Rangers are interested, but will not pursue pursue players into the stratosphere."
That continues to hold true - be it Trouba, Panarin, etc.

I would agree, it's just not likely that a player of his caliber will reach UFA. Maybe that's for the best, but if you are going to sign a UFA Panarin seems like the best bet.And also because players like Panarin don't hit the market regularly. His season LOW is still HIGHER than any Ranger not named Gaborik in the last decade
