I love the options having 9 talented offensively capable players to mix around over the next 20 games should the current lines not click (they should be given a run because I liked the way Tarasenko looked with Mika and Kreids tonight, and it was only Kanes 1st game).
I love our 4th line when Motte comes back. One of the best 4th lines out there.

But I will digress that a matchup against NJ scares the hell out of me at any point in the Playoffs. Their numbers have been trending down ever since early season, which bodes well that they maybe aren't as powerhouse as the record suggests, but my god, their capitalistic, opportunistic offense could eat us alive with our turnover rate.

I am not a believer in NJ's defense or goaltending, but that offense and the speed could give Trouba/Mikkola some serious problems if our forwards get too fancy and don't have a high guy in OZ (cheating for offense), or getting too east/west in NZ.

That said, Give Panarin/Kane time to find that spark again, I really liked the way Tarasenko looked on that Mika-Kreids line for the first time, and once again, we were playing without 1/2 of our top 4 and short on forwards again after Motte left. No need for falling sky or world is ending takes after 1 game with Kane. Settle down on that. I truly believe 1 through 12 our forward group can score NJ, we saw they could last year against CAR and I think Kane/Tarasenko's pure offensive ability and previous performance (many forget Kane was PPG in bubble playoffs of 2020, and you just had 10 points, on 7 goals, when motivated prior to trade) will help us break through the stingier teams like Tampa/Boston should we get that far/should we face them.

If I am Chris Drury - I would still be busy today fixing depth with players that do not affect cap right now for contracts we will likely let go.

I’d begin by waiving D Ben Harpur (who likely clears and becomes a Black Ace in April)

Trades
Anaheims brawler (fought NYR arch nemesis “Flexman” Tom Wilson 2 nights ago) D Nathan Beaulieu/UFA (100 k retained) acquired for D Libor Hajek/RFA + F Tim Gettinger/RFA. NB stays on NYR squad as #7. We are thereby cap compliant and have have a 21 man NYR roster until the POs. Pure rental.

Winnipegs disgruntled (has asked to be traded) D Nils Logan Stanley/RFA acquired for D Zac Jones/RFA (in Hartford) + signing rights to Jayden Grubbe. Stanley is waiver exempt and can be sent to Hartford and returns as depth for Playoffs. He could either be resigned as a long term piece in the off-season or dealt for something not too shabby if we cannot fit him in cap wi$e.

Calgarys F Radim Zohorna/UFA (in the AHL) acquired for F Karl Henriksson/RFA 2024 (in Hartford). Maybe a very small NYR add. He could be a long term organizational piece.

Nashville’s F Mike McCarron/UFA (in the AHL) acquired for the outstanding future considerations. He could be a Hartford option next year.

Don’t ask why. I would just do this…

Getting both Tarasenko and Kane wasn't part of the plan until the last couple weeks. And Drury isn't going to cheat Schneider out of over 500k for nothing. Sending him down for 2 days is one thing. Sending him down for 100+ days is something else entirely.
NHLPA would have had something to say about that, for sure

Stanley isn’t waivers exempt, and waiving Harpur today doesn’t get his cap off the books today.

The only move is trading Harpur if they wanted a different dman.

They 100% should, going into the playoffs with Harpur as the 7th dman is batshit crazy, but they love him, so not worth even thinking about.

Dumb transactions such as bringing up cuylee and having a 23 man roster are catching up to us. As we find out every dollar counts.

The Rangers weren't anticipating being in on Kane after Tarasenko but 88 forced that hand. It's hard to be critical of team not preparing for a move they weren't anticipating to make.

Pretty much and instead they would of dealt similar picks for Bjustad and Kulikov

Just gotta deal with this for a bit unfortunately
I also blame the league for being Mickey Mouse and allowing a teen to play short this long even w an injury and suspension

Meh. The Rangers are to blame here and if the league makes an exception then they set a precedent. It's not the league's fault that KAM did an idiot thing and put his team in a worse spot. That's on him, accident or not.

This is funny.

Arizona is a ponzi scheme. Ladd is coming off the books. Arizona acquires Weber and Voracek. They need those contracts to prolong the con. Their new proposed building as a vote in May. Hope it fails and the NHL sells that franchise to another city. We talk about revenue and the salary cap. That team has been losing ever since they came into the NHL in 1996.

Frank wrote about JVR and his contract. $7M cap hit. It may require a 3rd team. His base salary is $4M. $227,027 is the actual cash for 25%. The price should be a 2nd considering the Rangers paid a 3rd for Arizona to retain 25% on Kane. $172K in actual money. Arizona likes those deals where they reach the floor with little cash actually being paid out.

Wow, what a joke. Edmonton literally maneuver themselves to 0 capspace meanwhile Anaheim and Arizona can fit all the upcoming UFAs singlehandedly.

There are many teams in a cap crunch. I don't see how the league allows this to continue into next season.

Well its true that we didnt expect to get both.

It is also true that we knew cap was going to be tight and were going to get one of them and help on defense. So why waste space when having a 23 man roster clearly wasnt needed.

Worst comes to worst we have extra space and dont need a team to retain as much and maybe get the price down pick wise for retention.

Its just poor planning and anticipation of the trade deadline possibilities. I mean with extra cap space maybe we go after a d that is better than mikkola.

They didn't need to know the Kane trade was potentially happening to make the right decision(s) throughout the season.

Even if Kane wasn't on the table, we gave up millions in potential cap space accrual that could have meant a different asset at the trade deadline (ie. another depth defenseman or forward, after the Motte trade). The opportunity cost of carrying so many roster players was always going to bite us in the backside - Kane or not.

Maybe trade Harpur for Kulikov with some retention? What other option are out there? Do something Drury!

Don’t have the cap. But would love Kulikov, he’s been doing very well on a very bad Ducks team and his partner is on pace for a career production season. Feel he has been one of the reasons for that.

Should fit with max retention (75%) if we trade Harpur, hope my math is right. I don't think Kulikov even with max retention would cost a ton.

Picking up Jake L off waivers was the dumbest move this year, bar none. Waste of cap space.

Max rentention is 50 percent, you need a 3rd team to trade through to get the other 25.

Most teams go heavy, loading up with players who are good in corner battles, and crashing the net. Rangers brass went with a completely different perspective by building and then adding highly skilled perimeter players. Ballsy move, or at least somewhat against the grain.

When you have that you need to own the puck in the O zone, be deadly on the PP, and have teams terrified to give up odd man breaks to you.

I don't believe this team personally has the make up to win a cup. Pray I'm the idiot my wife thinks i am sometimes.

Pretty sure just one of Tara or Kane would have been my dice roll. But I understand how weak the right side was, so I get it, and I support it.

Love Drurys guts to try these moves and go the full skill route.

I don't see how these never ending 40 ft cross ice passes are going to work in a playoff series though.

I also see the possibility of more neverending slews of 3 on 2's and 2 on 1's against this team. With Shesty firmly back down to earth, it could get real ugly.

Just imagine if just ONE of KK or Laf were Tim Stutzle.

People may get what they want here. GG may very well have to leave the kid line together for better or worse. If they are non factors in the playoffs, I'd bet the house the Rangers don't go far if they make the playoffs.

Motte is never going to make it through the regular season, let alone the post season. Guy is snake bit.

I'd look hard at Will Cuylle there. He's an important player for this franchise imo.

Love to see a game or 2 from this Lockwood guy.

KAM put this team in a shitty position with that lame, weak maneuver.

Love Mikkola. Harpur showed you his best. Love Schneider, but I would like to see him add a bit of nasty to his game. He's prob the nicest guy on the planet.

Don't know of it's been noticed by some, but Fox has been getting hit a lot lately. Teams are going to take the age old theory of hammering the opposing teams best D man into the ice in the playoffs.

Cant look at cuyle… literally cannot call up anybody for the rest of the season. Unless it’s emergency recall.

This also means that Jones will not be up at all. His contract is too high for even the emergency recall.

So if we are granted one bc of motte injury it would he hajek or maybe robertson if they go D (which i would)
