Roster Building Thread IV (2022-23): Luck of the Irish

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. It is and it pains me that as a moderator that I won't be able to trollishly rub it in the faces of many Chicago fans who were certain they were getting Laf/Kakko + 1st ++, then were sure they were getting 1st + Othmann ++.

As embarrassing as our own fanbase can be sometimes on these boards, in all my years on the site I have maybe only 2-3 other times witnessed a level of arrogance that was on display by CHI fans during this Kane ordeal.

I expect Jones/Robertson + 2nd. I'd be elated if its just one of them straight up. I'd be pissed if somehow all the reports are wrong and our 1st is included. I'd be beyond post at Drury for giving up BOTH.

It was looking great, until we ran out of gas and Tampa finally countered us/tightened up.

It'd be important to not go 7 games in every series. I'll take a nice 5 game series win to start.... then watch and enjoy all the other series go to 7 games.

It's a fine line to walk between getting enough rest to go the distance and playing enough home games to also make sure that the salary cap goes up.

That's what really killed us. The inability to get it done quicker. Those 7 game series killed us. We had Tampa on the ropes and like you said we ran out of gas and an experienced Tampa team did what they know how to do.

I hope our guys learned from that. But, it's the Rangers. I've been at this too long and know they'll find some new and exciting way to rip my heart out.

The Rangers have been doing a good job with behind the scenes access. I like the 5-10 minute videos they put out at different points in the season.

I feel like we are fully capable of beating the Devils or Canes quickly, but if they beat us it will be in 7.

I could be wrong, but I think it was more of if we got Kane for a 2nd, people would bitch that we didn't get him for a 3rd. If we got him for a 3rd, it was too much only a 4th, etc. If we got Kane for future considerations they would complain that Drury didn't do it sooner and Kane won't have enough time to adjust.
 
Still waiting for this to be official before I really say a whole lot, but no matter the concerns or whether or not you think this puts the Rangers over the edge, you just added a 1st ballot HOFer who has won 3 stanley cups and thrives in the playoffs where it matters most. He will be incredibly motivated. Playing with his best friend and really for the first time in a long time he has something to prove, to play for. Hasn’t been good times in Chicago for quite a few years now and a lot of people have been questioning his health (rightfully so).

This will be the most talented top 6 i will have witnessed in my lifetime.

I avoid the main forums with these discussions. Not sure how you and Machinehead do it. The mains are a totally different beast. I’ve even have said to people here be careful on the mains and especially other team forums, because warnings are going to be given out more there, and even the slightest thing said even if sincere, will be looked as trolling.

You have to have thick skin, a high tolerance for stupidity that is borderline unfathomable and no soul.
