If Beleskey is traded does his entire $3.8M contract follow him? Is that the hang up here?

If Beleskey is traded does his entire $3.8M contract follow him? I figured the Rangers could find a taker for their 50% share for like a 7th round pick. If you're Beleskey and want to play in the NHL this season, do you just mutually terminate the contract and sign somewhere for the league minimum?

No it would be whatever the Rangers are paying, or $1.9m. So if they retained half, it would be $950k to someone and $950k to the Rangers. I assumed someone would have taken a shot at him for that as well but I guess not.

Cheaper to bury him than trade him for 50% of $1.9. Surprised they couldn't find a taker at $1.9 for future considerations or something. Sucks for Beleskey who likely won't see NHL time this year. He's set to be a UFA next year but he's not getting any younger. Weird situation.

The Rangers, we’re told, are standing on their respective one-year qualifying offer of $874,125 to each player. Neither 23-year-old has indicated the slightest interest in signing for that number, which, by the way, represents less than the entry-level cap of $925,000 at which the team signed neophytes Kaapo Kakko, Vitali Kravtsov, Adam Fox, Igor Shesterkin and Yegor Rykov this summer.

From Friedman:

Anyone got Gorton’s email? He missed this completely. Jeff “the king of bridge deals” Gorton...

if only negotations were one sided (like you seem to think :naughty:) and didn't involved players/agents/other teams who also know the same info.

for the same reasons that a long term deal benefits the team is the reason why players don't want to sign long term cause they have seen the results too. that is one of the big reasons why so many top guys are still unsigned. toronto broke the system when they agreed to sign matthews for only 5 years. prior to that guys signed their big contracts for 7-8 years and thought nothing of it. after the matthews deal guys are like 'wait I can get my $$ now and also become a UFA sooner and get even more money later?'

It is a trend but if 1-2 of those guys get career ending/limiting injuries it may swing back.

Good to know Lemieux spent the past month at Prentiss. He needed to slim down for the sake of mobility. Hope he kept most of that strength.
Slimming down has nothing to do with mobility. In fact he could put on size with Prentiss while getting more mobile.

yep 100%. thats how it changes if someone suffers a career ending injury and guys see how much $$ they left on the table...but right now they are just seeing lesser players make more $$.

the other option to swing it back would be if teams had the self control to not overpay for aging UFAs so the incentive to become a ufa would be less...and no I did not type 'teams' and 'self control' with a straight face

Why? They’re both good pieces. Give them $950k and be done with it

Because every dollar matters. We are going to need to call up players for injuries, and we will very likely have performance bonuses to pay out.
