That's cool. Good thing there isn't a direct correlation between how a player looks and how a player performs.
You dont acutally think he has been performing well at 5 on 5 do you? I know you love going by the fancy stats…but c’on.

Maybe, maybe not, but I can admit that what my eyes see can deceive me and I'm not going to rush to make changes to something that by every measure is working regardless of how I think it looks.

Absolutely dominating numbers through 182 minutes. It's been consistent as well. Over 50% xG in all but two games.

They still have guys beat up, roughed up and goalie run even with Reaves. He's NOT a deterrent because he won't beat on someone who isn't officially a heavyweight fighter

Not really Tom. Prior to Reaves yes. With Reaves, that doesnt really happen too often. Games still get chippy, but the Rangers are definitively not the recipients of that crap like were prior to #75.

Not too mention. If they were winning games with him out of the lineup maybe there would be something more to it. He's played 12 games so far. They are they won 5 of those with him in the lineup. .41%

So he missed 6 games. They won 2 of the games where he didnt play. .33%

Team is struggling for sure. Can't find theIr groove but im not read to point the finger at Reaves just yet.

Ryan Reaves has five fights as a Ranger all against other tough guys. How is he possibly preventing other players from taking liberties? Why would they care he's in the game? They're not on the ice at the same time.

for the love of god please put Kakko back with Mika and Kreider

Mika-Kredier-Kakko or Panarin-Trocheck-Kakko work very well. The team is just giving Vesey way too much time.

After no 5v5 goals last night, I'd have to think Gallant goes back to Panarin-Trocheck-Kravtsov. Bust up the Kid Line and bring back Kakko on the top line. Laf-Chytil-Vesey as the 3rd. Send Carpenter to the moon with Reaves and run Blais-Goodrow-Gauthier.

You're a numbers guy. How did the team do prior to Reaves? Similar club. Same Netminder.

Not always easy to measure what a guys presence does for the club. Not easy to measure if the team is truly playing for one another. Were they together prior to Reaves coming to NY? Also, not always about who‘s on the ice. It's also about who's on the Bench on the next shift.

Here to just say 2 thing today.

1) I'd take a 6-8-4 instead of 8-6-4 record all day if Laf and KK both had double the points they have put up till now. It's becoming painfully obvious that we have drafted 2 third liners out of picks 1 & 2. I see two 35 pt per 80 game players. Krav even less. Guys trending at D+4 at what, 20 pts per 80?

@KirkAlbuquerque and myself have been implying this opinion for awhile now.

To the " Be patient" bros. (Love ya, but KMA lol).

2) This team is unwatchable 5x5.

I am 99% sure that Kakko and Laf will be great top six players if we trade them. The team is the issue. See Dach.

Do.Not.Disagree.

But I wouldn't say great. I just don't see top line skill and creativity. I can think of at least 5 players in both those drafts who have shown way more high end skill and creativity than those 2.

And the sample size is not very small anymore.

At this point, why aren't we playing Kakko and Laf with Zib? Kreider is trending towards being a Hornqvist. Plays bottom six, but gets top PP time. I've always believed that this team will be at its best when we have a guy like Kreider in that position.

Idk Kakko has shown me a lot this season. Not a lot of puck luck. Laf has shown some skill as well. He's an elite passer. We just need a proper system to deploy them. Can't do much with creativity when the entire system is scoring on the PP and neither of them get real PP time.

Yup. Differing opinions about high end skill. I think KK is trending to be a very good 3rd line player. No more.

Again. You use " Great" and "elite" where I use "good". Differing views.

Like with Kravtsov. Wouldn't be happier than to eat a ton of Crow here. Ecstatic to be wrong tbh

My thoughts on some players and general whining on this Friday morning:

Kreider: He's gotten worse at carrying the puck and making the right plays. Too many giveaways, gets closed out on the walls. Even with a huge amount of space in OT he got closed out on the walls. Not that hes ever been creative with the puck, but hes not using his speed to stretch the ice like he did all last season. When he plays well he is a force with his legs and in front of the net. Otherwise hes a drag on the top line and should be lower in the lineup. Nothing new to see here.

Blais: His injury was devastating. Joe said hes feeling a lot better but If you really pay attention to how he is skating he really has a long way to go. Its pretty obvious there are a lot of things he cant do and he was not this slow before his injury. He's still pretty ginger on that one leg. Of course you want to give him the time to build the strength back up and get closer to the level he was at, but its going to take time. A lot of time.

Goodrow: So much better suited on the 4th line. Again we are thrusting inferior skaters into top minute roles. The Rangers lack of speed was on full display last night. The Kraken were flying and the difference in skating ability was so evident.

Miller: Somethings gotta be wrong right? He just doesnt look like the player he was last season. Its crazy because he had a dominant preseason and he was toying with the opposition at times. Then it fell off a cliff at some point. Did he sustain an injury? Hoping he did at some point to make some sense of it.

Kakko/Laf/Chytil: Here we go again. Its so goddamn frustrating to watch all of the other 19,20,21,22 top picks on other teams tearing it up and just playing their game with full vigor. And its the same conversation about confidence, PP time. Goodrow and Vesey out there on a zone start in OT. Beniers flying around making a difference each shift. Hughes out there playing with fire with the rest of his bunch in Jersey. Making plays, being dynamic, being young in a young mans league. I've been preaching patience. But im at the point where I just dont know what to think anymore. Its getting embarrassing and as silly as this sounds after games like this I dont even want to deal with thinking about it anymore. Im tired of examining if its the coach, the lineup, the players, pp time, etc. It is what it is. Whether it comes around or not im becoming disenchanted with the whole f***ing thing. The simple fact is they arent making a difference right now and this was a big key to the season.

12:36 Laf
12:54 Kakko
12:35 Chytil

17:09 Beniers
Last season in the playoffs we saw a glimpse of what we thought Chytil could be but now I am beginning to think it was an aberration. I mean patience is one thing but this is Year 5 and I have not seen the uptick in play expected and more importantly needed. It seems like the same ones always get the blame and picked on but I mean look at last nights game as another example. If I am not mistaken he was on ice for all 3 goals against including the OT winner. He continues to have defensive lapses and turns the puck over. At some point you would have expected the light bulb to go off.

See the post below yours by SA16. He’ll only fight anoth official fighter. All kinds of middle weights running around doing their thing. We’ve recently had Lindgren roughed up, Schneider and Goodrow out for fighting over a clean check. A deterrent would be Reaves going out and pummeling one of THOSE guys. Not dancing around in and arranged bout with they’re big boy. Make it known if you go after one of our guys Reaves is coming after YOU not your designated fighter.

The whole fighting thing is archaic but if you’re going to have a dinosaur then have him stomp on people.

2 reasons for that.

1) He believes in the code.
2) Those are the situations that leave your team down a man. Like with the Blais incident. He knew PK wouldn't drop the mitts. He even said it in an interview after the game.

With that said he is effective at running around and hammering people. Rarely gets called for those hits.

He and the code them make him useless. It’s not a deterrent and we’ve seen that, to have Reaves schedule a heavyweight bout every month or so. His so called skating around is a detriment. As much as any penalty he would get for deterring anyone.

Still waiting to se the evidence that the team itself is better w/out him.

I said it during the game last night, I thought Laf and Kakko looked very good playing in the top 6, but because the team’s depth sucks so badly they need to use the kid line just to prevent the bottom 6 from being two 4th lines.

The forward depth is a disaster with Carpenter/Reaves being detrimental, Blais being ineffective, and Kravstov with one foot in the morgue 50% of the time.
