The Rangers will need Reaves at some point this season. Someone will get beat up and Dolan will lose his mind. Years ago Dolan lost his mind when Orr wasn't dressed against the Flyers and Shanahan was injured in a game against Philly at home. Tom Wilson beat up the entire Rangers team two seasons ago. Who is replacing Reaves?

Blais is expensive. Reaves is expensive. These are rearranging the deck chairs on The Titanic.

The big money players on this team are no shows. The Rangers go nowhere without these players playing like dogshit.
I don't disagree with you regarding the big money players, but if Reaves is waived, it's doubtful that anyone claims him. We can send him to Hartford, save some cap, and call him up if needed.

Whoever we add at the deadline may not move the needle in terms of how good this team is, but having more cap space gives us options. If nothing else, we can at least improve our depth.

Would like to see Kakko and Laf elevated again, although I like what Vesey has done and deserves to stay there.

If hes gonna roll with that lineup is it really the end of the world if the kid line is going to get them the first shift of the 2nd and 3rd to get them a couple more minutes? ... or God Forbid put them out instead of one of the Mika or Breads line ONCE if there is a bevy of PPs and Pks?
I think a a baby step would be letting them play ANY power play time at all with Fox.

In fact, for a team that’s having scoring troubles, double shifting Foxy on the power play wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.

Everyone else, until they get here, make similar decisions and they too are dumb as f***.

Posters here are better suited to coach this team, don't ya know??
Of course fans know more. But even just today, there are calls for 10 different line combinations. Which is the right one? All of them.

What does cap space allow for though? Them to use futures to bolster a team that is not very good?

I mean of course we'll see how they play between now and then, yet the organization deluding themselves just because they went further than they probably should have last year, and if this year they are in like 7th 8th in the east or whatever at the deadline, seems like a maybe they might want to consider that their current group of vets are maybe just not good enough to add to?

Right wing, man....

Vesey, Gauthier, Kakko, Kravtsov, Reaves, Pajuniemi. It's gotta be up there with the worst in the league.
right now doesn't look great but if just one...JUST ONE of Kakko/Kravtsov could actually put some points on the board it wouldn't be as bad. Right now Gauthier is looking like a decent 3rd/4th line RW (Dare I Say)

Julien Gauthier (scoring 3 goals) and Jimmy Vesey (scoring 2 goals) in a total of 29 games played this season (so far) is a pleasant surprise. But as their somewhat positive offensive goalscoring output matches that of the total output of the trio of Top Ten draftpicks as in Kappo Kakko (3 goals), Alexis Lafrenière (2 goals) and Vitali Kravtsov (0 goals) in a total of 44 games played - one can clearly see where much of the challenge lies in order to take the next step.

Another thing that is also concerning at this point is the 1 goal scored in 3 games played by the offensive powerhouse a.k.a. Dryden Hunt matches the total sum of goals in 123 games played by all the following secondary offensive players combined: Zac Jones (1 goal in 12 games) Jakub Trouba (19 games), K-A Miller (19 games), Ryan Lindgren (17 games), Braden Schneider (19 games), Libor Hajek (9 games), Sammy Blais (16 games) and Ryan Reaves (12 games). That is also a sad fact.

It’s absolutely inexcusable that Krapsoft isn’t in the lineup even though he’s healthy now. Are they trying to force his hand? That would be idiotic. You made amends, play the kid. It hurts his development and trade value at the same time. Shit like this makes you say oh now I know why the Rangers can’t draft in the top 10.

And while I’m at it, what the f*** are they teaching Laf and Kakko? They were both consensus picks where they were drafted. I can see it now: Rangers development staff Tanner Glass and Jed Ortmeyer: Hey Laf, hey Kakko, you gotta focus on your shot blocking technique and block attempts per 60. Don’t worry about building your offensive skills, and when you go to sleep at night listen to the best of John Tortorella.

How does missing 1-2 games hurt his development?

Well it’s surely not helping it. Hasnt he been a healthy scratch for 3 games now? 4 coming up?

I guess when you are getting so many goals 5 on 5 you dont need to worry about developing young forwards…oh wait.

So how is it hurting his development? Exactly how will missing 1-2 weeks of games hurt him long term?

We've done it ass-backwards trying to make them "round out their game" first.

Kakko and Laf were guys who relied more on strength and tenacity for their success. It makes sense that it's going to take them a little time to establish this kind of game at an NHL pace against men compared to players who relied on hockey IQ and skill.

But this is arduous, and Gallant not giving them the big minutes isn't helping them take the next step. Top-picks as a team rebuilding on the fly like we were is a bad blueprint. You're working these kids in and asking them to play support roles to Panarin, Kreider, Zib, etc. when the idea should be to keep them as "the guy" playing favorable, OZ minutes and let them back-fill the support stuff. Laf and Kakko should not have had 42% defensive zone starts in their rookie years.

He is giving them big minutes.

Laf is 38th in the league in 5v5 TOI. The same as J.T. Miller. More than Trocheck, Tarasenko, Horvat, Barkov, Kopitar, Caufied, Ovechkin, Barzal, M. Tkachuk, Svechmikov etc.

Kakko is 66th. More than Robertson, Rust, O'Reilly, DeBrincat, Giroux, Malkin, Larkin, B. Tkachuk, RNH, Bratt

If it’s not helping, it’s hurting. But at least we are still developing Vesey by giving him those minutes on the top line. Still have hope he turns into that 60 point player for us.

That is certainly not true. It can help, hurt, or make no difference. I'm asking how it hurts. If he plays 58 games this year instead of 61 games this year that will make him a worse player in the future?

Not to mention, the old adage, a guy shouldn’t lose his lineup spot due to injury.

Is he going to play that many games? He gets hurt/sick every other week. We should be playing him when we are lucky enough that he is actually healthy.
