Kreider-Zib-Kakko was one of the best lines in the league in terms of xGF and coach just can’t help himself , gotta put the kids together so they can be benched, and 13th forewarn Vesey had to on the top line , it’s written in the NYR constitution
Remember when those of us against signing Vesey were ridiculed when we said this is exactly what would happen?

Best performance since opening night? What is he watching? The Philly game was way better for one.
Kravtsov should get back in but he won't until they lose again.
Kinda telling that the SJS game is considered by the coach to be their best performance of the season when Shesty stood on his damn head all night and STILL lost his shutout and then almost allowed the tying goal all in the last min

SJS had a ton of dangerous chances... even if they didn't register as shots

That win was the kinda win we enjoyed all last season

The line with Kakko is a bigger sample, but that line is actually working with Vesey too. xGF% is north of 60% for both combos.

The biggest thing is that Kakko on that line is built for long term success. I am not sold on it being the same with Vesey. If it works out and Vesey is filling the Bunting role like he does with Matthews and Marner/Nylander, it only helps.

Best scenario is that it is an option if injuries plague the team. When the roster is fully healthy, it should not be on the table.

Having 1 really good line isn't the goal. Like it or not, having the kids together on the 3rd line is the most likely combination to give us 3 lines that can control play and score. Kreider and Zib should still be effective with Vesey. Pararin and Trocheck should still be effective with Goodrow.

Laf is 3rd among forwards in EVTOI/G. Kakko is 5th and Chytil is 7th. Which line they are on isn't going to substantially affect their TOI numbers. They don't get much time on the PP or PK. Until that changes, their overall TOI is going to suffer. But even then, Laf is 5th in total TOI/G, Kakko is 6th and Chytil is 8th. The top 4 are Zib, Panarin, Trocheck and Kreider, as you would expect. Goodrow is 7th, mostly because he PKs a lot (tied with Zib for 1st).

So frustrating. Crazy that that line was broken up seemingly for predictable purposes.

I dont disagree that this was far from their best game of the season but they outshot them nearly 2-1.

That never happened last year lol.

So they were super high in xgf, but not burying anything. That was a change I didn’t hate. The coach felt he needed to spark multiple lines.

I told you he'd take Kravtsov's spot lol.
as well he should. Based on merit, skill, and every other factor when comparing the two players. The only area where Krav rates higher than him is in the blind/low bar "potential" people see in him (which has yet to be seen in this league).

Someone to replace Vesey as a top line winger? A depth defender better than Libor Hajek? There are areas to improve on the roster.

Reaves gone after the west coast trip is the beginning of that. Carpenter as a 12/13 isn't bad, but being able to see if Rydahl can fill that role better is the way to go.

Blais should also be on the lookout for a move. He hasn't done anything to say he should be in every game.

The goal for the team should be to get to a point where Vesey-Goodrow-Gauthier is the 4th line. Right now, two of those three are on higher lines. Hopefully Kravtsov is an internal option to move Goodrow down. The other is either to break up the kid line and get Kakko back with Mika-Kreider and get a middle 6 type winger to compliment the top 9.
The Rangers will need Reaves at some point this season. Someone will get beat up and Dolan will lose his mind. Years ago Dolan lost his mind when Orr wasn't dressed against the Flyers and Shanahan was injured in a game against Philly at home. Tom Wilson beat up the entire Rangers team two seasons ago. Who is replacing Reaves?

Blais is expensive. Reaves is expensive. These are rearranging the deck chairs on The Titanic.

The big money players on this team are no shows. The Rangers go nowhere without these players playing like dogshit.

Break up Zibanejad and Kreider.

Move up Lafrenière and Kakko to the top line with Zibanejad.

The Rangers played a preseason in NJ. Chytil played with Panarin. They had a few good moments. Get Kravtsov back into the lineup on that line.

Kreider-Trocheck-Goodrow.

I think it’s concerning that last season’s three-leading scorers among the forwards are each down in terms of points per game at 5v5 – Chris Kreider (from 0.40 to 0.26), Artemi Panarin (0.64 to 0.53) and Mika Zibanejad (0.48 to 0.21). They’ve combined for only 19 points at 5v5.

That's a valid point but our defense (while it admittedly did NOT show in the shots on goal stat) was disgusting

We're still blowing easy coverages... 3 players go to ONE guy leaving 2 others wide open

I'm happy w the win (would've liked a goose egg for Shesty)

But I still see too much crap from too many guys in all 3 zones... that includes Kreider who knows better

Honestly I think we screwed up beyond repair. I don't see how we take the next step unless some of Berard, Othmann, Sykora, Culleye, etc become much better than expected. 5 1st round picks on forward prior to Othmann and we ended up "Loser Andersson", "Fragile Chytil", "Kravsoft". "Can't Produce Kakko", "Laughable Lafreniere"

lmaoooo

WHY SHOULD GALLANT CHANGE THE LINEUP?!?!?!?!??

They're fine. Panicking and putting the stupid f***ing corpse-rotting piece of shit kid line back together has already made the team worse.

Let's not do more damage for no reason.
I’d like to see Kravtsov back in.

We don't need any new guys...develop what we have and let the chips fall where they may . Any improvement / shot of encouragement to Miller/Schneider/Jones on the D and more ice/confidence for Laf/KK/Gauthier/Chytil/Kravs/Blais in the regular season will be worth it in the playoffs plus we will still have our first rounders on hand . It is FOOLISH to keep adding parts when we basically have it already in house . FOOLISH FOOLISH FOOLISH !!! We are so dependent on our youth.......so give them some more rope .
100%. If there’s an injury or the team needs some depth, make a small move after the new year. But otherwise, this is the team. Gotta make it work.

Love Mika with Laf and Kakko.
I would keep Trocheck with Panarin though. I’d like Kreider paired with Gauthier with Chytil centering. But either way, I agree, break up Kreider and Mika. In theory it’s a good idea but in practice Kreider is just a passenger. Board work is good but at even strength we need guys to attack the net. Kreider doesn’t do that anymore. Kakko does and I think Lafreniere and Mika would thrive on the chaos.

They're a year or 2 away, but i'm excited to see Sykora & Othmann on a line, a couple years off. I think they'd mesh together quite nicely. Them+Trocheck for instance has the makings of one of those lines that makes opposing fans tear their hair out.

Would like to see Kakko and Laf elevated again, although I like what Vesey has done and deserves to stay there.

If hes gonna roll with that lineup is it really the end of the world if the kid line is going to get them the first shift of the 2nd and 3rd to get them a couple more minutes? ... or God Forbid put them out instead of one of the Mika or Breads line ONCE if there is a bevy of PPs and Pks?
