The problem with ADA is he's entering his 5th year as a professional hockey player--he's not a prospect anymore. He has to build on the progress he made last year and cut out the problems that made Quinn take him out of the lineup for a number of games. How he does in training camp and pre-season matters.

Totally support this. As some other posters mentioned i have an agenda against ada. I have only 1 agenda, its the NYR.

Smith's flexibility also allows him to fill the 7D and 13F roles simultaneously, so we would lose cap space if we were to send him down as we would have to spend at least $1.4M cap on the replacements while sending him down only saves $1M.
Re-upping that it isn’t “flexibility” when you’re just no better or worse as an emergency fill-in at forward than you are at your natural position.

isn't having the ability to play both positions the definition of flexibility? (in hockey terms).

Sorry, man, but this just sounds more like someone with an agenda than someone talking objectively about what he saw on the ice last season. ADA was arguably our best defenseman last year.

what you saw on the ice doesnt take away from what he is as a person. im not judging him. i would never do that to a person i never met. BUT the questions marks around him, are legit.

It's a big deal when your teammates starting looking to you to make the big plays and for a defenseman that means making big plays defensively as well as offensively. The kind of opposing players you play against--the situations you're put in mean a lot too. Players respect guys who get the tougher assignments.

For those that want to keep Kreider, I think the most comparable contract is Anders Lee.

Anders Lee - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

$7M x 7Y
If Lee is Kreider's best comparable then his contract should come in lower than 7m AAV. Lee has 3 seasons as good or better than Kreider's career high in goals of 28. Lee has a 40 goal season and a 34 goal season to go with his 28 goal season which is Kreider's career high of 28 which he's hit twice. 6.5x6 or 6x7 would seem a fair deal for Kreider with Lee's as the comparable, re-signing here anyway.

Hayes contract all but guaranteed that Kreider would get 7. In all honesty I'm not even comfortable with 6×6, for me Kreider's contract has to be 5 years or less, otherwise he has to be moved

When you call a player a "(de)generate fool" that "has done nothing for us", it certainly sounds like an agenda - not like someone objectively talking about a 19th overall D draft pick that's already played 132 NHL games by age 23.

I don't love DeAngelo, but I don't love disingenuous posts that simultaneously disparage a guy based on "track record" and say that they don't judge people they don't know out of the other side of their mouth. The truth is that you have absolutely no idea what kind of person he is. None. Talk about him as a hockey player and what you do and don't like about his game and leave the smoldering rumors to Post Page Six.

"should of" ... it's coming back to haunt me ...

Anyhow, we ain't done here. Still in the cap crunch. We will see another deal before the season starts.
I'm calculating with a 2.5 cap-hit for ADA and a 1.5 cap-hit for Lemieux.

Fast dealt and Smith buried = close to no cap left. We'd have like 50k in cap space in this case.

Nam dealt and Smith buried = close to 2 million left in cap-space.

I e said it before and I’ll say it again here! ADA is a stud D prospect. Great vision and ability to go tape to tape. GREAT hockey IQ. Good enough skating. Good defending ability and most importantly for our group BRASH, COCKY and a tough SOB WHO CAN HANDLE HIMSELF

People say he’s a “character “ issue because of some tweets they didn’t like. Boo Hoo. His opinions mirror the player he is on the ice

I have a really hard time believing he was benched for a tweet(s).

More likely there were (are?) issues behind the scenes that the coach and staff believed weren't addressed and hence he gets benched. I believe it was rumored that he was late for a meeting or something? Again, we may not know and that is probably intentional on Quinn's part. At the end of the season he APPEARED to turn a corner. Hopefully he picks right back up there and the talk of these 'issues' will vanish.

I might be in the old man minority nowadays, but seeing pictures like this really puts fandom in perspective. We’re a bunch of grown men arguing about these *****ey little kids. It’s weird.

Strome got married? Obligatory freak out post that he's going to show up out of shape to camp.

The tweets were when he was with the Arizona organization. He just continued to "not get it" after he arrived here, hopefully this is the year .

Which tweets?

This guy gets the “hate” he gets on here because of his political views. I don’t agree with them at all, but he’s allowed to have an opinion.

Also, I hate to break it to you guys, but he’s probably not the only one who supports the orange one. Some of your favorite players almost certainly do too.

I think the answer is they are paralyzed by the fear that they might make a bad deal so they don't want to make a real decision on something until there is the equivalent to a gun to their head.
I think many GM's are worried that they'll make a trade before the season starts and then something will happen, like an injury or a couple of top players having done years. Then that first round pick ends up at #12 instead of #25

I honestly can't think of a single incident involving ADA off the ice since he got here that was an issue. he got some tough love from quinn but I think that was more about hockey, trying to get him to be consistent with his effort and to continue doing certain things, not punishment for stuff he did off the ice. but maybe i'm just forgetting stuff...

Based on some of Quinn's comments during the season, I think there was some stuff, but we never knew what exactly the issues were. Hopefully he has moved beyond whatever it was and can just play hockey.

I mean, he did push a ref like an idiot. He has some legitimate issues that are totally unrelated to anything politics. Having said that, I think he's a great player and he seemed to have less issues as the year progressed.

maybe the fool part was over the top. he does and has displayed degenerate like behavior. no i don't know him personally. he may be the nicest guy. but the fact that he does have a "track record" is not to be ignored either.
