How does this guy still have a job with the Rangers why is it no one sees this year after year the guy responsible gets absolved
Rangers just had their two best PP% seasons since Jagr's first season here. That that's with Stepan losing 85% of the 'crucial' draws and McDonagh being the least creative point man there is.

I have a serious question. Our goal is to win a Stanley Cup right? Not be competitive, not win a few games, not hang around and be entertaining ... it's to win the CUP. The same goal every team should have. We would all agree on this right?

Then the next question is are we better than Pittsburgh now? NO
Is there anything we can do this year to be better than Pittsburgh? Probably not.

Why aren't we planning to make our run down the road when our cost controlled team is in it's prime and when we can plug in guys as we go along? You have to figure down the road Pittsburgh, Chicago, Washington, Columbus, and Nashville will all be on the downside. Why not strike then? What would our competition be? Edmonton probably? Toronto?

I just think this retooling thing is sort of half pleasing the fan base and half trying to do the right thing.

It is because this organization (and the Knicks too) are wayyyyyy too arrogant for their own good. Obsessed with the shiny new toy, always have to live up to their reputation as the team everyone wants to play for, that plays in the "World's Most Famous Arena".

We are pretty much caught in no mans land. Not good enough to win the Cup, not nearly bad enough to bottom out and draft at the top of the draft where all the franchise changing talent is.

According to Larry Brooks, the Rangers are interested in bringing both Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton in though it's not known if either player would sign a "one-year, bonus-rich over-35" type of deal." (NY Post)

My God they would want both?....

They're not getting anyone who is better than anything they have in the top 6 on this FA market. Thornton MIGHT be better, but Hayes did have 51 points last season playing as the 3rd center, and who is Marleau better than in the top 6? gimme a break.

From the GM down, you'd hope (and assume so), but from the owner level? I doubt Dolan really cares (sure he'd love one) about the cup as long as he's getting about 2 rounds of the playoffs in and the team is competitive enough to keep MSG full of people paying premium prices for seats and enough eyeballs tuned to MSG to get some nice advertising revenue flowing in.
Therefore, there is pressure on the GM to field a team that is 'competitive enough' to keep bums on seats and eyes on screens

Logic has no place here. Be gone with you!

The Rangers trading Stepan who is 27 (even for futures) just to bring in Joe Thornton or Patrick Marleau if its a multi year deal makes absolutely no sense..

and if its Nick bonino for 4 to 5 years they choose instead. FML.

Thornton absolutely blows Hayes away and he might even still be better than Zibanejad. He's a generational talent.

I more or less agree on Marleau. I don't see the purpose.

Conventional wisdom would suggest that they'd be moving a winger out if this were to go down.

Getting them as stop gaps on a short deal while being able to grab a few more assets wouldn't be a horrible idea.

Its not like they're going to be locking these guys up for 3 years.

And in playoffs... ?

Would rather Marleau and Thornton than Bonino.

How does it make no sense? You get similar production now, add futures, lose a long term commitment, and buy yourself extra time to try and find a long term answer at 1 or 2C.

And in playoffs... ?

It might be fun to have them both on one year deals. It might also mean somebody else is leaving. I wonder who that could be. I still think its funny that the same people in the media that keep talking about these 2 players say we are trying to get younger/faster. :)

It's just so infuriating.

You want to beat Pittsburgh and think you can? Fine. Go get Shatty, trade for Duchene, sign Jumbo Joe and go to war for 2Y ... if not move the F*** out the way and move guys for a real f***ing future##!~#!~@#

Selanne and Kariya signed together for a year on the old Avs team.

Didn't go great for them with 3rd line minutes but the precedent is there. It's been done before.

Maybe NYR want to move a winger if they get Marleau. Maybe Jumbo Joe and Marleau actually think NYR can compete with their help for a year.

Yes. It's basically us and NJD at this point. Not surprising
I guess just because he turned down Tampa Bay once doesn't mean he will again. If he would have accepted the trade to Tampa and signed an extension, he'd be giving up the opportunity to see how aggressively the NYR go after him. Now, if they are really lukewarm, it's a different story.

well at least there's one good thing.. The Rangers didn't do the stupid thing and trade for Shattenkirk at the deadline last year..

They obviously didn't intend to sign him

BUT if the fanbase could come together and put pressure on the Organization, things CAN change.

Don't believe me? Look at Phil Jackson. Things can change, but the fan base has to demand that. We don't ... we go to the games and we ***** here on the boards. Make it known what we want.

Lmao odc is so far off AINEC.

Mac is awful manning the PP.

Yea lets see more of those pathetic wristers hoping for a deflection because zero velocity behind his slapshot nor can he get it through. He also goes braindead when carrying the puck up the ice after the Rangers classic drop pass to start the rush, with zero instincts to adjust when the opposing PKers are stifling it.

um.

your sarc meter is broken.

i was um. not serious.

he's awful

I believe he turned down the deadline sign and trade to Tampa because he didn't believe they could compete. They still can't compete, neither can NJD.
