Looking at centers with high cap hits that teams might want to unload...

Jordan Staal - 6 mill (signed through 2023)
Henrik Sedin - 7 mill (pending ufa)
Ryan O'Reilly - 7.5 mill (signed through 2023)
Paul Stastny - 7 mill (pending ufa)

I'd take any of these. FOr the two pending ufas, maybe we trade staal at 25% retained (although vancouver would never bite on that)holden straight up?

Only thing is why would we want Stastny? In my opinion, he's basically an older Stepan with a little more injury concern.

I don't see ROR or Staal coming at the cost of a 25% retained Staal and Holden. They'll want more value. Plus those contracts are hefty.

Meant staal with retention or holden. If its a cap dump, holden makes better sense and he's resignable probably at a decent AAV.

We'd want stastny to fill a top 3 center hole, and he's only signed for one year. He is older, not as good, mroe injury prone, etc., but we need someone and the farm doesn't have the answer, i dont think.

Give Boyle that 3C spot he always wanted?? otherwise, not a ton of options.

Forget about adding old salary. The team is not going in that direction.

If you want a legitimate center that isn't going To kill your cap it's going to cost McDonagh. Guys like Barkov, Trocheck, Kadri, maybe Tyler Johnson would all be good centerpieces in a McDonagh trade; and the Rangers can probably get more from those teams. I think Florida for Barkov+ makes the most sense.

This a bold assertion

the potential or the deangelo thing ?

theres potential for sure. subtract danny g and add tony d. were better.

as for deangelo, for those who dont know the kids game and are basing things on his rep, i think those people will be very surprised his level of talent. he's an emotional jersey kid. he's got big mouth or had. i think he's figured it out now.

hes gonna stand out for sure and in a good way. he's that skilled. and i mean big time skilled. and he's no sloth on defense either. he plays with an edge and he's fiesty. beautiful skater and so smooth with the puck.

look back and see what was written in his draft year. watch some film. watch this video. no one on our roster hands hands like he has and no one on our roster can run a pp like he can.

I've been a fan of this kid since his draft year and followed him in sarnia and ssm. he played an entire season here and showed me in person how talented he was.

he's the real deal. period.

I'd add to that to get ROR. I think he's worth it. Sure the price tag is hefty but that's why we wouldn't have to add much.

I'm just saying "Boyle in his prime" is some big shoes to fill.

As far as free agency goes for a veteran forward my list goes in this order:

Thornton
Sharp (with possibly Miller moving to center)
Williams (with Miller moving to Center)
Boyle for the 4th line

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Nash-Hayes-Zucc
Vesey-Miller-Sharp
Fast-Boyle-Grabner

Bolded def sounds like Dan Boyle. Not big, but plays nasty with an edge and is a great skater with offensive talent.

If the Rangers are hypothetically moving McDonagh, there is no point in getting Bjugstad. Also Bjugstad isn't very good. That being said, I think it would be very wise for the Rangers for the Rangers to use McDonagh to get a Barkov or Trocheck headlined deal from the Panthers. Let them keep Bjugstad.

I'd move McDonagh anyway. 2 years left on contract; I don't want to pay a 35-37 year old defenceman what he'll get in a long term deal. Get a couple early picks and a good prospect or two. If the NYR have to sweeten the deal to better the return, I'm good with that. Probably have to get an NHL now defenceman to fill the gap until the prospects are ready, or just let the kids play (my preference).

Thats some dream you have there Inferno my friend. That "extra money" we have hanging around will be needed to sign some of our own players down the road.....can't spend all of it......may need some of it for deadline as well as you never know who becomes available.

Love JT, Hayes not as much........hope theyre having a STRONG off season with their regimens. Get stronger.

That's where the 1 year contracts are huge.
