If we were going to be bad next year, we would have kept Girardi.

Gorton wants to compete.

I think there's some reasonable truth to this, but if we can't sign Thornton and don't want Shattenkirk, which seems to be the case, we won't be competing. It's funny because if we do sign Shattenkirk, Thornton, and Franson/Smith, we would probably be a much better team. Add in the young pieces we have added and it wouldn't be so bad.

I'm sure moves are coming but if not and this is the roster moving forward Miller HAS to be #2 center.
Hayes isn't getting it done.

There's a long ways to go until the puck drops for next season...lots of things the Rangers could be doing

That said yeah I don't think they're interested in tanking, I think they're interested in turning over some of the roster and having the space to make moves that come up

Nor should we. We have to many good players to just blow it up. Plenty of cap space to rebuild the right side of the D and add a stop gap center.

We'll be competing for sure

make no mistake..the rangers are significantly worse at this moment than they were at the end of last season, even with losing Girardi.

With that said...theres still a ton of time, and a lot of our issues can actually be solved via free agency...if youre willing to pay the price.

i...am not.

I dont want Shattenkirk for anything more than 5 years and 30 mil.

That wont be enough for him.

Very true if for some reason we pass on Shattenkirk which I can't imagine us doing, it means gorton is quitting on this team and going full rebuild mode.

I don't see it.

I see at least Shattenkirk 1 vet center a backup goalie and hopefully Smith

With that much cap space burning a hole in their pocket, I don't believe for a second that the Rangers aren't interested in Shattenkirk.

It wouldn't surprise me, nor would it incense me, depending on the cost.

I still think a Demers + Bjugstad deal to the Rangers will happen. The Rangers give Bjugstad a year to get his game back. If not, trade or buyout which is minimal. Tallon is on the war path with guys signed last year.

I think RNH is moved this year. And I don't think the cost will be high. Do the Rangers think he can get back to 50-55 points?

heres the thing..the Rangers finished 4th in the Division as it states and got the 2nd to last wildcard spot right?

Are they better than Washington?

No.

Are they better than Pittsburgh?

No.

Are they better than Columbus?

No...especially not with Panarin.

Are they better than the Islanders, Devils, Hurricanes, and Philly?

I dunno...probably? The Isles definitely improved...as have the Devils, and Canes...Philly is unknown.

If the Isles get Duchene for Hamonic? ugh. If Barzal is ready? Ugh.

I can see the Isles making up some of the gap on the 8 points we finished ahead of them...

especially losing a borderline elite backup goalie, our top center, and our 4th line center.

Rangers need to either settle in to the rebuild, and really go full bore...or they need some more major moves.

THIS! S*** or get off the pot. You can't be in both camps.

hard to say how good Columbus is or will be. They really coasted on that big winning streak and then flamed out in the first round yet again

I could be wrong but I don't see Philly struggling like they did last year. Their defense will be legit and I think their forward depth will improve.

I think the Islanders also will be better.

I'm not saying the Rangers are dead in the water for sure, but as of now they would be a quasi 4th in the division. That's probably best case.

Too early to say what we are.

We're sitting on 20 mil more likely 23 mil if Klein really does retire

That's crazy money in this league to play with when you are a top destination for free agents.

If this team come oct is

Kreider Zibanejad Buchnevich
Nash Thornton Zuccarello
Vesey Hayes Miller
Grabner Nieves/Andersson Fast

Mcdonagh Shattenkirk
Skjei Smith
Staal DeAngelo

Hank
Johnson

Well that's a pretty damn competitive team

Im thinking Galchenyuck.. The draft today were all solid 2 way players. Galchenyuck could bring the Offense

Sounds like Galchenyuk is staying in Montreal. Strong rumours that they're coming closer and closer to an extension.

I suspect that Gorton will shock us all with some ridiculous trade to get another center.
