Only thing I can think is they felt they really had to move Stepan for various reasons before his NTC kicked in and no one was offering them anything more than that

If we get a #1 center out of this, it's worth it.

Gotta hit a home run with pick #7. Or move up, which I would do if I felt there was a 70 point center in this draft.

Agreed, we don't know what his plans are yet. And #7 or a move up could land us a pretty good player.
