Miller, perhaps? I wouldn't mind move Hayes but then we're going to be very short on centermen...

What other forward would they want? We have nothing in the farm on forward at the moment that would interest a team that's ready to start contending

Miller is who I was thinking, but I think they could do better elsewhere.

Long time lurker first time poster. Any chance Gorton packages 7 and 21 together to move up if Patrick drops? Helps the Rangers center issues immensely.

Not sure it would be worth it. If he drops it will only be to #5 or so. At that point, just hope he drops two more spots to #7.

Is there a Nolan Patrick in next year's draft though?

He's a stud. He's not McDavid/Eichel but he's right there at the next tier, right?

Thanks for the warm reception and opinions. I went from being mildly pumped for the draft to really excited. Rangers with cap space in my lifetime is also mind blowing.

I was targeting Dallas's 3 OA with 7 and 21. I agree Chief that if he drops to 5 you just wait it out...

if we could turn miller into Trouba that would be highway robbery with the value of d right now. I would be willing to give up 2 wingers for Trouba and wouldnt think twice. It would also pretty much complete our defensive transformation. Im all for it given there are decent wingers to sign to be near term gaps. IE Dadanov and Williams, etc we get hopefully a good forward at 7th ov, Nash for a first at next years deadline, we draft 2 forwards next year in the first round at the draft

Can agree on Miller for Hanafin then Hanafin for Trouba...

If that's the case though you have to look at drafting wingers or acquiring some others... We're very shot on top 6 players at the moment

If they stay away from Shattenkirk or choose only one of Shattenkirk or Smith, Bonino and Boyle are the logical centers to bring in. Both combined should be a tad under $7 million. Both PK, win face offs, and can skate. Both playoff pedigrees. Both can shift to wing if Nieves shows he's healthy and ready, and also when the new Center is ready as well assuming that's the #7 pick.

Boyle left here bc he didn't want to be 4C anymore. 1) why expect that have changed 2) why would he come back and be more or even as motivated as he was before, and 3) why should we reward that. No thanks. Bonino overqualified as a 4C and I think better options for 3C.

Well people wanted changes. Oscar, Stepan, and Ranta gone in 2 days. Are we done trading?

No way we sign both Smith and Shattenkirk. Unless we plan to move Smith back to the elft side when Staal goes.

McDonagh Shattenkirk
Skjei Smith
Staal DeAngelo/Bereglazov

McDonagh Shattenkirk
Skjei DeAngelo
Smith Bereglazov

I'd rather trade for Nate than Trouba. Either one would be great but get us some top line offensive talent. We can always dress some beer league guys on our bottom pairings. :D

I don't know where this idea that Shattenkirk has suspect defense came from.

I thought his advanced stats showed he was a big time positive defender and shot suppressor.

The advanced stats look good, yes. He just didn't look great to me with Washington, but the advanced stats disagree with that.

So, hey, I could be totally off there, but just my opinion.

Most worrying for me is the contract.

Who is that, exactly?

Cause I've always heard Patrick is right up there near the McDavid/Eichel territory.

Eichel and McDavid are not even close to the same.
I'd say Patrick is similar to Eichel though, bigger bust risk.
Hischier is safer and similar ceiling

Tavares will be turning 28 next season... Would that be an issue? (asking seriously, I want other's opinions)

He's the closest thing we'll come to a generational talent, and from a rival no less. To me, he's a Sakic light, he'll play well into this 30s. If you got a shot at a guy like that and have space, you gotta go for it (especially since he's a center).

Three years elsewhere playing almost exclusively 4th line center may have made him realize that's not realistic.
