A lot of rumblings today that CHI and ARIZ are working on a deal that would allow the Blackhawks to move up to number 7 in the draft

Apparently #7 is available

I don't see us making any moves.. we'll sit at 21 until "our guy" gets picked and then we'll trade back into the second round

his is what I think, too. Whether for better or worse, I don't even expect many significant trades at all this summer... maybe 1 or 2 for a bottom-six guy the first couple weeks, and a 3rd pairing D near training camp. Hoping Shattenkirk signing will be the ! this off-season.

Gorton seems like a calm though resolute guy. I think we're going to sign mostly CHL/NCAA/Euro guys; it seems like we've been sticking to that course... would be great to get Boyle again.

It has been said that people believe that Chicago is looking to get out from under the Hossa contract.

I think this is going to be a big trade. Chicago is looking to make a splash. Sweep in the 1st round. Cap strapped. Hossa + 1st + for #7.

Possibly Hjarlmarsson added to the deal? Coyotes would then have two late 1sts. Use on of the 1sts for Raanta?

Because a really effective way to destroy a relationship with a fellow GM is to take a hardline stance on what you will give for their asset and attempt to bend them over a barrel.

What if you're basically helping out a fellow GM by giving him an asset(s) for a guy who was going to walk for nothing at the end of the season?

Why would ARZ be the team overpaying? If anyone has to overpay its the hakws.

Jimmy, why would the Yotes trade #7 for just a pick lower in the first round and for a player who will likely never play again?

There is more to it than that.

This. Simply this. Even if the stepan front is dead, you have Zuccarello and nash. If the front office really did sour on kreider or he is the piece that can land a defining right d, he's an option. There are few untouchables and only a few players have clauses.

Kreider is not a bonafide trade option. He is this team's best F, AINEC. We saw what happened when AV was finally made to admit how he was running the bench was a failure, and for one period, he let Kreider be Kreider, and CK dominated.

A guy w/THAT MUCH ABILITY, THAT MUCH POTENTIAL TO DOMINATE, that is who you demand a premium above and beyond for.

I doubt clubs cough up overpayment we would require, and even if Kings gave us Doughty, that would be another short term gamble.

no, imo.

---------------------------

Stepan is what he is, no more no less. Consistent, but plateaued.
Don't play hard to get
Don't demand a premium above and beyond fair value which may be acceptable in a case like kreider but not for a non-stud like DS.
If we can build a good rapport with AZ, that may lead to long term collaborations which overall are more profitable than trying to squeeze extra hard o one transaction.

Straight up for Chychrun, not withstanding any chump change to both sides.
Extremely fair. We also get younger and recover cap.

Then discuss separate deal for pick, Holden, Zuc, etc

Again, like I said,
if we pry EKane,

then w/adds all around
EKane to Canadiens
Gally to Colorado
Duchene to Rangers

Two years left for Panarin, and he could certainly skip back to Russia if he wanted to. Seems like he'd be a weird target for the Coyotes.

Maybe they could turn around and flip him to the Rangers for Stepan? Or they could target Hammer and then move him to Montreal or something.

I think -- especially if you move Stepan -- and ESPECIALLY if you can find a way to dump Staal -- that Shattenkirk is a no brainer.

He's exactly the direction the league is heading. Guys who can skate don't break down like the lumbering Staals and Girardis do in their early 30s as often.

He is exactly what the Rangers need and he's rumored to want to play here.
The Rangers are not giving Shattenkirk 7 years.
