I like Lindberg, and I'm annoyed about the lack of center depth in the immediate future both in terms of flexibility if they are going to deal Stepan and its another hole they have to fill. However, if Lindberg was playing anything more than 4th line with spot 3rd line fill in duty, the chances are much greater that things went horribly wrong for the Rangers as opposed to incredibly right for Lindberg.

This board has been a cesspool for ****** hot takes for a few years now. Bunch of mental midgets.

The reaction to losing Lindberg is perfectly warranted. We're weak at the center position due to a lack of a franchise center at the top, or at the very least an actual top line center, and the one thing we have going for us is our offensive depth.

Losing Lindberg is a big blow, but I will feel a lot better about our situation if Zibanejad has a true break out season.

Because Team Sweden didn't win anything with him above 4th line...

What could we have done? I'm happy we didn't pay them off. Raanta might be a part of a larger deal. Fast is important, grabner didn't make a ton of sense for them and is very cheap for his contribution last year. It was going to hurt no matter what, but we were far from the worst hit team.

The only option was to trade off an important forward for a bad return, then protect lindberg and still lose a good piece. Or pay an asset to take puemple that we have no business paying. Ultimately, you look past replacing Oscar specifically and address the hole at 4th line center.

He did well on that line, but how much of that was because of what Lindberg contributed, and how much of that was because of Nylander and Backstrom?

I mean...let's be real here.

Ola, I still think Stepan is on the block. Part of the culture change. If Gorton stands pat and signs a few UFAs with nothing else, then yes I agree, vanilla and too many nice guys. But we're not to July 1st yet alone the NHL draft. We'll see how this team looks by Sun yet alone 24 hours.

As I said in the Lindberg thread, plenty of "Moneypuck" 4th line Centers in the bargain bin:

-Tom Pyatt
-Jordan Weal
-Derek Ryan (a late bloomer)
-Ryan White
-Dominic Moore
-Chris Vandevelde
-Yanni Gourde

and that's not even taking into accounts guys like Boyle and Gagner who are like tweener 3rd-4th liners.

Also some guy named Marek Hrivik
