Ola, I still think Stepan is on the block. Part of the culture change. If Gorton stands pat and signs a few UFAs with nothing else, then yes I agree, vanilla and too many nice guys. But we're not to July 1st yet alone the NHL draft. We'll see how this team looks by Sun yet alone 24 hours.

As I said in the Lindberg thread, plenty of "Moneypuck" 4th line Centers in the bargain bin:

-Tom Pyatt
-Jordan Weal
-Derek Ryan (a late bloomer)
-Ryan White
-Dominic Moore
-Chris Vandevelde
-Yanni Gourde

and that's not even taking into accounts guys like Boyle and Gagner who are like tweener 3rd-4th liners.

Stepan had a noticeably bad playoffs this year. Last year, the whole team was bad. The two years before that, in our deepest runs, he basically produced the same way he always does in the regular season. This talk that "Stepan is bad in the playoffs" is BS. He was THIS year. That's not the same as him always being like that.

Thank you.

Nate Schmidt to LV from Washington.

It absolutely kills me that LV took Emelin. He's horribad.

Without Nate Schmidt, the current left side Caps D is an unsigned Dmitry Orlov, Brooks Orpik, and Taylor Chorney.

That's rough for Washington. Some work to do for them.

I heard Florida is including Smith because of $. Maybe they're trading for Kovalchuk? They'll need to replace the production of Smith and Marchessault.

"Marc Staal, come on down!"

We should field a team with the Caps current LD and our current RD, would be awesome to watch

Have there been other drafted goalies announced? I'm shocked they passed up Grubauer and Mrazek

Losing Lindberg means that AVs favorite vanilla pet Stepan is a top center on this team for four more years. With that much invested in AVs vanilla turn the other cheek thinking, it means AV is staying for a good while of those years too.

Losing a 4th liner has absolutely nothing to do with the teams number 1 center.

So far the only goalies it looks like they have are Fleury and Berube. This is from another board and obviously not official. Possible Rangers 1st round pick lol...

Probably Pickard from COL because there's literally no one else from COL. there were rumors Carolina might convince them to take Lack

Rest assure, there are more than one problem with his franchise. Is Stepan a problem? Who the **** cares if he is a "problem"???

Is Derek Stepan deserving of raising a Cup as a top center and leader for his team? Watch that series against Ottawa and you get an answer.

I don't want a roster with 20 guys that isn't a problem while we sprinkle away picks and kids. I want a team winning a Cup.

Dude, that has not been Gorton's MO at all over the past year. He has been all about making this team AND management younger.

- Traded Yandle for a 4th and a 6th (rather than re-signing him to a monster deal).
- Traded Brassard for Zibanejad and a 2nd.
- Signed a bunch of young lottery ticket guys in Jooris, Paliotta, Clendening, and Pirri, all under 25.
- Signed seven (seven!) UDFA in Gilmour, Vesey, Lettieri, Nell, Pedrie, Pionk, and Bereglazov.
- Claimed Puempel off waivers.
- Bought out Dan Girardi.
- Hired Beukeboom as a new assistant coach in the NHL.
- Hired McCambridge as an new assistant coach in the AHL.
- Promoted Chris Drury to AGM, then subsequently also gave him the GM's duties in the AHL.
- Fired company man Ken Gernander, promoting McCambridge to head coach in the AHL.
- Hired Jed Ortmeyer as Director of Player Development.
- Hired Ben Prentiss as Strength and Conditioning Consultant.

But yeah, you're right, he did trade a 3rd rounder and the team's extra 2nd rounder in 2018 for Smith, so clearly he's all about pissing away picks and kids. :sarcasm:

Are you seriously going on like this about the fact that the team, which had to lose SOMETHING in the expansion draft, lost its 25 year old fourth line center? And are you implying that instead they should have exposed their 26 year old first line center (who has a high probability of being traded this weekend anyway) and lost that much more valuable asset for nothing?!?!? :shakehead

What were the caps asked to give up to protect Schmidt? Anaheim gave up a top prospect and a cap dump to dodge two hot commodities that would have gotten a big return in a flip. You would think the ask would be much less.

Maybe the equivalent of whatever a team is offering Vegas to flip them Schmidt?
