The Rangers could certainly be a one stop shop for the Coyotes is Raanta is not picked by Vegas. I thought Chayka comments about a right hand center were certainly telegraphed.

Dvorak or Strome are musts in any deal. (Unless Domi or Keller are available) D'Angelo is on much lower tier and I have no interest in Wood. Top young center prospect, second valuable piece (Duke, Crouse, Fischer) and #7. Git 're done JG.

And I don't care what Smith is listed at. He is not 6' 4" and I doubt he weighs 215. If he does, it is all muscle. He is a physical fitness freak.

If there's even anything to this, I think we'd be very fortunate to get Strome and D'Angelo for Stepan and Raanta.

Dvorak+#7 would be too good to pass up. Coming from someone who'd rather hold on to Derek. Which means we'd probably have to add or take less.

I'm not really interested in Domi or Duclaire to be honest. If we're trading away one of the sexiest and most bonafide names in all of hockey, I want a younger piece that matches the hype.

Dont think Stepan is redundant at all. Hayes and Miller should not have a top 6 center role. Really would like a young forward prospect back for Stepan.

Step + 21st for Keller + 7th

Sign Thornton, Shattenkirk and Smith

Jumbo acts as a stopgap until Keller can step into that 1C spot.

Welcome back and welcome aboard the trade Stepan train

I think people will be surprised at what Gorton gets for Stepan if he does trade him.

I do expect him to be traded to Arizona at some point this offseason, and I'm looking forward to what young pieces Gorts can extract.

Didn't want this to get completely lost in the Step-a-thon

Taking a brief break from the Step-a-thon to throw this out. Simon Depres was cleared by the Ducks and was skating with the team throughout the playoffs. He is going to be a risk because of his concussion history but he is (was) a wonderful young defenseman. Someone to consider as a high upside UFA. Also RHD Michael Stone had a horrible year this season after rushing back from ACL surgery but he has previously had a good track record and he'll be looking to bounce next year. Stone has a great shot and plays with an edge. Nice second tier defense possibilities to keep in mind.

Saw that earlier - I think Desires would be a great potential high value pick up for us. We always take a few flyers on guys like that every year. It's always worked out quite well, with many oftentimes far exceeding expectations.

From here on out:

Stepan + Raanta + 21st to ARZ for Dvorak, 7th overall, 3rd rounder
Staal ($1m retained) to Florida for pick/prospect
Sign Despres 1 year, 1.75 million
Sign Shattenkirk 6 years, 6.25 million
Sign Smith 4 years, 4 million

Kreider Zibanejad Zuccarello
Nash Dvorak Buchnevich
Vesey Hayes Miller
Grabner Lindberg Fast

McDonagh Shattenkirk
Skjei Smith
Despres Bereglazov

After all the tweets about Stepan from Bob McKenzie, and those very specific comments from Chayka, you've got to believe Stepan is Arizona-bound. If the GMs can work out a nice deal, of course.

Ugh I'm really not a fan of Strome

Me neither, he might not have passed the threshold were it has spread to everyone yet so might be a third part alternative out there if ARI is willing to dance? I think Vancouver for example would deal Stecher for Strome.

What if Vegas take Lindberg though? Maybe we got word on them taking Fast/Raanta? Or it's just wait and see.

I think a lot of GMs would prefer to trade after expansion, when they know what they have lost. Aside from the Stepan rumors, Eberle hasn't been traded yet, and there was a lot of talk about interest from teams on a trade with Edmonton.

In some cases, you can be assured that the GMs already know what they've lost because they've had discussions and side deals with McPhee and LV. We the public are just slow to get the info!

Perhaps Gorton knows Raanta is gone and prefers losing Raanta over getting some assets for him and then losing Fast, Lindberg, or Grabner. OR Raanta is in the trade and Gorton knows generally what he has to work with.

You were gone for like two years.

Stepan doesn't get you Keller, even if you add to him with the 21st, they definitely shouldn't add the 7th OA pick.

Yeah fo sure, good point. There are pros and cons dealing before the ED depending on the situation. Some might get a player pushing someone out that they want to protect, others might have an opening that they would benefit from using.
