Wouldn’t Montreal be perfect for Strome right now? Desperate for NHL centers. He’s 26 and under control.

Strome is the guy that if we decide to tie our cart to long term we’ll regret.

He’s blocking Chytil from 16 plus mins a night.
He’s blocking Kakko from Pp1 mins on that right wall.
He plays ZERO defense I mean zero.
And he’s glued to Panarin. Absolutely glued.

He’s a good player but he’s not a top 6 center on a winning team. Do not give him 5 mil plus long term. We’ll regret it.
Strome is also only 26 and is trending towards 60 points AND shows chemistry with Panarin. That is nothing to sneeze and and presuming that Chytil will instantly have the same chemistry is wish casting. And right now, no one is blocking Kakko. Let Kakko's play rise to a level when anyone can state that he is being blocked.

He was producing before Panarin. He is on pace for over 50 assists. Being "glued" do him presumes that what? ANYONE can feed Panarin his assists? That ANYONE can show chemistry?

Food for thought. If "all" Strome can do is know his role, shut his mouth and continue to feed Panarin the puck, all the while allowing management to play Panarin & ZBad on two separate lines, how can that be construed as a negative? Isn't that what you want from competing teams?

Based on the Athletic's current projections, the Rangers are projected to finish with 85 points which would result in having the 8th draft slot. Buffalo is 7 with 82, then Anaheim with 76 and SJ with 75.

Assuming we are going to start dealing away some players, I'd really like that to happen ASAP so that we can slide down at least into the 7th spot.

Who would we get back. Aside from a few players, not that enamored with the state of that organization and its prospects/players

considering his age and that he’s under control it’s not a traditional trade deadline rental. I’d ask for kotkaniemi I’d have to but if I’m being realistic They’d have to give me one of Poehling Suzuki or at least Ylonen or a top 5 protected first round pick. (Meaning if they finished bottom 5 they could kick it to 2021.)

Even better if we can get to 6th.

What's the preferred long term defensive lineup look like around here?

Miller - Trouba
DeAngelo - Lundkvist
Keane - Fox

Lindgren, Skjei, Hajek, Robertson, Zac Jones, Reunanen out?

Many times now that I am willing to sacrifice some offense for a more well rounded center that makes it harder for the opponent to play against. Strome does not. They score and get scored on religiously.

Panarin is a beast. He’s in his prime. Anyone he plays with plays better. This is nothing new. He’s made stars out of his linemates in Columbus. Every time he’s stepped on the ice with Chytil they’ve created offense.

Strome on the other hand has never produced like this. Never. No one has even trusted him to center a top 6 line and it’s not because he’s not talented. It’s because he plays zero two way hockey. He’s a perfect sell high guy. Look at his last two games they’re a microcosm of how he can hurt you

I’m not interested in keeping Chytil as a third line center to accommodate Strome.

They have Danault, with the arrival of Suzuki (playing really well in rookie season) and Kotkaniemi (who was scratched) I don't think Montreal fans would agree that they are so desperate for a center (at least not one at Strome's level). In fact I think they have moved Domi to wing for the most part.

*right side is interchangeable.

I only know Hajek and Skjei can be dealt for all I care.

We just have too many TWD or OFD. Reunanen and Keane, I don't know. Can't we just ice 8 D?

Man Trouba, I swear to god ... we couldn't just be f***ing patient ... as was obvious, that we wouldn't.
He's the crux really. He'll cripple us against the cap if doesn't ball tf out.

If I have to watch Strome lazily back check or make a lazy line change one more time I'm going to lose it.

Every back check Strome is like the controller disconnected Ovechkin gif. Guy does not even come close to giving enough effort defensively.

As Edge has previously noted Avs and Bruins are also two of the 4 teams with lots of trade talk surrounding the Rangers over the the last 2 seasons. Somethings got to give.
Or not. We all thought that there was going to be a big draft day deal. There was a lot of smoke, but ultimately no fire.

Montreal hold Suzuki at same level we hold Chytil at. Maybe out of all those they trade Ylonen but I must be honest don't know much about him.

I don’t see why tony won’t be signing a similar contract to the bridge deals given out last summer. Werenski McAvoy perfect examples.

2 or 3 year deal with the highest salary on year 3 for the qualifier. I don’t see them going long term with him. I’ve said this since day one. You don’t have to worry about trading him until fox proves himself worthy of big money. You don’t trade him because of a prospect in Sweden either as good as he’s been. Tony is a stud right now he’s 24 years old why were even discussing trading him as a rebuilding team is honestly laughable.

my guess is another bridge deal 2 or 3 years and that’s when things are revisited. Right now Fox makes less than a million dollars we need to improve our blueline not make it worse.

Yeah, outside of a long-term deal that I hope happens, it seems like a 2 year deal is the best way to move this forward for him. It gives him one more RFA year, but it also helps him make some serious money right as he's about to enter UFA. I forget exactly what the limitations are on how you can allocate money throughout a contract, but a 2 year, $5.5M AAV seems like something he'd take. Give him $4M in year 1 and $7M in year 2. That's the same split as Werenski's deal just one year shorter.

they are DESPERATELY looking for a top 6 center. Danault is not that guy. Kotkaniemi has been scratched because he’s not that guy right now. Domi is playing wing because he can’t play center at that level and Suzuki is a rookie and he’s prob their best option. That’s more an indictment on their centers than on him being ready for it.

I watch a lot of montreal games and Danault is pretty underrated. He's quick and very good defensively. Could be unpopular opinion but I don't see a big difference between him and Strome.
I think this would be an interesting trade discussion but i would say that Montreal would NOT trade any of those young players for Strome. I know I wouldn't. Kotkaniemi still has too much potential and only 19. Suzuki is a legit top 6 center already.

I'd trade Strome for Danault in a second. He's very underrated.

It will take 98 points to make the playoffs in the East using that same projection. The Rangers have 50 points. The Rangers would need to go 24-10 in their last 34 games.

The media talks about the Rangers still being a player in the playoff race and that will determine the Rangers decisions at the deadline. The numbers suggest it’s very tough.

But why take the chances that Chytil will not gel with Strome? Why not wait until you are sure that Chytil can in fact take that step?

What Panarin is or isn't is not the question. Of course he makes his linemates better. But look at the primary assists that Strome is piling on. Is the presumption that anyone can just make any pass and Panarin will automatically convert?

And again, why so easily brush off that Panarin is on pace to completely destroy all of his own records. Are you stating that if it had been Chytil who has been there all along, that Panarin would still be exactly the same?
Strome on the other hand has never produced like this. Never.
Neither has Panarin
No one has even trusted him to center a top 6 line and it’s not because he’s not talented. It’s because he plays zero two way hockey.
There are plenty of players who play top-6 roles and are not considered two way players.
He’s a perfect sell high guy. Look at his last two games they’re a microcosm of how he can hurt you/
Look at his previous 40 as a way that he can help you.

This is not an accommodation. This is waiting for Chytil to show that he is ready. Over the last two months (over 20 games), he has 7 points & 3 goals.

And why are we forgetting that Strome can also slide over to play wing? Isn't a player like that valuable in the middle two lines?
