If the lowest Kreider will accept is 7x7 (likely with some sort of NMC), do you...

  • Trade him

  • Sign him

  • Rent him for the playoffs and let him walk as a UFA

Look I understand the financial fears about Kreider. However I still feel he would take a little less to stay. Also the return we get for him is probably not gonna be worth losing a player of his unique skill set. I mean the Devils did a great job with Hall because they turned it into a likely lottery pick. With Kreider it seems like the Bruins and Blues are the big favorites which means the puck we get is between. 27-31 along with maybe a decent prospect/young player. That return doesn’t exactly excite me to be honest

Ultimately that's the question. Is a late 1st, a good but not great prospect and the cap space to spend on other upgrades >, =, or < Kreider at 7/7?

7x7 is kind of a strange thing to be discussing. If the Rangers are signing Kreider to a truly long-term deal, it’ll be 8 years.

7 x 7 is based on what he would likely get as a UFA, by a team other than the Rangers.

Isn't there that weird cap thing with Weber where Nashville could owe $20 million in a season somehow?
This is not going to happen due to LTIR, but it would be brutal for Nashville if it did.

I'd happily give Kreider 7 million for 6 years. I look at it as a slightly more than two million dollar raise from what we're already paying him. A raise I believe he's more than earned. The term worries me far more than the salary; eliminating that prospective seventh year is worth going to the higher annual salary IMHO.

James Neal is having a hard time recovering.

So EDM is missing both McDavid and Neal right now in the midst of a tight playoff race that will be going down to the wire.

Seems like a perfect trade partner for Buchnevich.

It is what is it.

Kreider's camp is set at 7x7, do you sign it?

My guess is that there are maybe 2 or 3 people on this board who would, and everyone else who will say no. If we want to include people who believe Kreider will sign at a lower price point, then the numbers will be more balanced, I'd wager.

The interesting thing for me is, what will be the reaction if we do end up re-signing him?

Am I crazy? This team is taking shape.

We finally have a overflow of top6 talent. We have arguably the 'best/most promising' Right Side on defense. We have a legitimate heir to HL.

Our bottom6 can use some stabilization along with our LHD. Barron is a nice piece that would be added soon. Hopefully Howden can develop into a key cog in this area.

Forget Rykov, Lindgren and Hajek.. We still are waiting on Miller, Robertson and Jones.... I personally think Robertson will be a massive piece to the puzzle.

My guess is the number may have gone up.

I think there's more people now willing to go to 7x7 then maybe 6 months ago, or even 2 months ago.

It's not a scientific poll by any stretch, I'm more curious to see how people respond to a very specific, and circulated number.

It's an easy no. That $7M can be allocated for RFA extensions or to take on a different player that's currently under contract (Clayton Keller?).

The NMC down the stretch is what will be a killer, and it would only be worsened by the contract being signing-bonus heavy. I like Kreids a lot, but that contract just simply will not age well.

And I will root for him to do well with his new team!
