If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

I think Treliving goes hella big this summer and offers Josh Leivo a PTO, and then celebrates at Boston Pizza.

Kidding aside, what happens in the playoffs will have a huge impact on what happens this summer.
I don’t know about Brad, but if Josh returns, I know I’d celebrate.
Love that guy.
Gimme Connor Brown too.
Tricky decisions ahead no matter what. It’s not like the market is flush with with top six talent and there’s more money around.

What’s the difference in value between Nick Robertson and Josh Doan?
Nick’s about 5 months older. Similar draft location.
Nicks been better in the A, Josh a lil better in the NHL but smaller sample.

He could get 8.5 to 9.5

That’s going to be a regret for whoever gives him money and term. I like him, but he’s a support guy.

Provorov at 8.5-9.5? No one liked him at his current salary which is why retention was required. He's a #3 at best, a good #4.

6M is pretty generous, even with the cap going up.

If Management decides to retool after this year, and move on from Rielly, Provorov is the best LD available on the open market. He's playing over 23 minutes a game, and has 28 points. AFP Analytics has his project salary at 6 x $6.398

Orlov is probably the next best LD.

Gavrikov is in the mix too....

None will replace the offense Rielly provides, so we'd need that from the Right side. LA Kings Brandt Clarke might be available, and would a great player to go for... Chychrun would fit the bill, but he's found a good place in Washington for himself, and I bet he extends.

I thought you meant Chychrun

Projected salary by AFP is 7 x $7.84 mil.

Chychrun I still think ends up around 7-7.5M, we're splitting hairs for a few hundred thousand but I don't think good teams can get close to the 8M number on him because for all he does well, he has flaws and even an injury history.

I also don't think he would go to a bad team again after being stuck in Arizona.

While I doubt Brad would be interested in, I would be completely unsurprised to see a PTO for Josh from someone, and see him back in the NHL next season.

While I strongly suspect the other Tanev brother signing with us in UFA, I wouldn’t hate a league minimum contract for Leivo to play in our bottom 6 either.

Anyways, bigger fish to fry with decisions to be made on Marner, Tavares, and Knies.

Kampf is an extra at practice again, Laughton remains 4C.

Moving away from Laughton for a moment...I have to assume that Kampf is gone this summer. The return is likely a 5th-7th round pick range but it seems done, I don't think Berube cares for Kampf.

1st + Greb to basically replace Kampf. To put a spin on it, Laughton is at least paid accordingly as a 4C with the added retention. What a brutal overpay, trade for the sake of a trade.

I'd put Laughton on LW on the 2nd line right now to see if he can contribute there, it doesn't need to be a waste.

Re; Laughton, It's a waste of a trade, if we don't progress deep into the playoffs, whether he plays on the first line, second, or fourth.

If we progress into the playoffs, and he helps out playing a solid fourth line role, it wasn't a waste of a trade.

It really doesn't matter where he plays, just as long as he contributes, and we win.

I’ll give Laughton some time. McCabe took awhile to find his place in the roster. Similar types of players. Different positions obviously.
Good scenario comparison here.

I remember distinctly being disappointed we didn’t get Murphy instead of McCabe at the time.

Now I am fully in the camp of being disappointed we didn’t get Murphy AND McCabe……. ;)

I forgot about Jonathan Toews. He’s only 36 and I think he’s got more good hockey left

If he’s cleared a 2 year performance bonus heavy contract might be perfect if he can be that 3rd or 4th line Center

I'm not completely opposed, but I wouldn't say this years reclamation projects worked out very well so far.

I’d like to think he’s just had a bad start. It’s nice to have him under contract next year to help salvage some value to the team.

To Toronto: EJ Emery + 2025 2nd Rounder
To Rangers: Morgan Rielly

I don’t believe Rielly would only waive for Vancouver and possible Seattle.

Sign Chychrun in free agency, 7.5-8.5 million per.

McCabe - Carlo
Chychrun - Tanev
Ekman Larsson - Myers

I've wanted to snap up Doan for a while, cheap 3rd line RW for next year with upside.
I think he has the make up of being a complimentary winger who can excel playing along side skilled players, and also has some upside.

If they split up Matthews/Marner/Nylander, they need cheap players who can excel as the 3rd piece on one of these three lines. I think Doan could do that.
