I think there is a middle ground and that is a 3 way trade with either Vegas or Minnesota.

Vegas: Zib, Jones
Buffalo: Krebs, Tuch, NYR #1, VGK #1
Rangers: Eichel, McNabb and maybe even Fluery with some retention so Vegas can make other moves for their rub.

Or

Wild: Zib
Buffalo: Rossi, Robertson, Wild #1, NYR #1
Rangers: Eichel
If we can get a trade done without giving up Chytil or Lundkvist/Kravtsov, that'd be the way to go.

What would you rather have;

Eichel + Mika trade return ( I'm guessing top prospect+)

Mika + Chytil, Lundkvist/Kravtsov+ ( alleged Eichel package)

IF Eichel is traded for, I don't think you can give up Chytil. This is one of the problem with acquiring Eichel. It creates a lot of moving parts.

or you rely on the Mika trade to get you a young 2c. But who is trading a good NHL ready Center for Mika?
Eichel+Mika trade return. Plus not having to sign Mika through his decline phase.

I’m trying hard not to overreact about the news about Panarin being “livid”. I love the player on the ice, but too much front office stuff seems to run through him.

I’m not convinced we win the Cup with him getting paid the way he does and driving decision making the way he does. He’ll continue to contend for the Art Ross but I’m not sure that we’re going to win a lot of games.

I dunno. Like I said, probably over reacting.
Too much of the front office stuff seems to run through him? What do you mean? Did the Rangers take back to Buchnevich trade?

This is ridiculous. So he’s upset. Who cares. He’ll live and count his millions. You don’t see him demanding the rangers trade for bobrovsky, they hang together all the time in the offseason
Panarin being “ livid” about Buch is a total non issue. You don’t see them surrendering their pay to accommodate his contract do you?

mans if he feels that strongly about it, he can waive any time he wants and we’ll get a truck load of assets for him and almost 12 mill cap space back
Maybe they also care because Buchnevich’s impact as a player isn’t going to be covered by Blais and Goodrow.

Y'all don't want to commit to Zibby because he's 'injury prone' but in the same breath want to trade a lot of top assets for Ethan Hawke's character at the end of Sinister.
Neck injuries are less of a concern when your head is completely detached from your body.

First things first, LOL.

Secondly, yeah this seems to be glossed over way more than it should. The neck gets a ton of attention because its whats going on now and the recovery time is substantial, but even if you take that way, he hasn't been the model of durability. If staying on the ice has been a problem for you leading up to age 24, it's unlikely to get better as you get older.

Whats the Mika contract in this scenario?

Between the 2, I'd choose the Mika option if the contract isn't 7 or 8 years. Devil you know vs the one you don't kind of thing.

Personally? I'd rather see whats behind door #3.

What scares me about all this, I could see Drury handing out 7-8 years like candy.
We've seen drury sign two contracts. one was a UFA where he was squeezed by the market on a player he identifed as incredibly important to the next step, and the other was an RFA that got a small raise and everyone both assumed it had been finished before he was promoted but was also exactly on point with what we expected/ what he deserved.

I get that no one was super thrilled by the buch trade ( and im in that camp) but I'd like to give drury a little more time before traveling down the pit of dispair. Looking at the reinhart trade, the buch trade looks slightly better, and he didnt move the first, especially where the value was so low, and the players he got in the draft seem to fit a mold and direction, which in 3-4 years is probably perfect for us.
He took some swings, he got some high upside kids or developmental prospects, but also some solid kids.

My annual reminder that the only way an offersheet gives the other team pause is when you walk the player right to UFA. Damned if you match, damned if you don't.
I mean even then, the canes took that deal on aho w/o hesitation.
Theres a reason offer sheets don't really happen, and its not "just" the collusion aspect. Its that unless you absolutely overpay for a contract most teams will find the room for it.

I can understand that Panarin and Shesty are disappointed that Buch is gone. But these guys are professionals, they understand we live in a cap league and that trades are part of business. It's not about keeping all the star players, but building the best Team under cap. If they want us to keep all the stars maybe sign with cheaper contracts like the Tampa players do :)

Several hockey YouTubers were saying Buch is going to get PAID, then went on to say maybe even 4 or 5M. I was like wtf, is that the consensus opinion? Do you think they're out to lunch and it's going to be more like 6-7M? If he signs for anything under 6 this will look even worse. I'm sure he'd sign for less on NYR than STL too.
