Backloading is better for buyouts. The rules penalize frontloaded deals, the hit recaptures those savings in a sense. The last two years are a buyout hit of $1.214 x 4.
Love how most people just assume a GM in the national hockey league structured a contract in the dumbest way possible because clearly he doesnt understand the buyout rules lol. Obviously Drury's anticipating that a buyout on this contract is probably likely and structured it as such.

Can't believe we're paying Goodrow $12 million/year. That's more than Panarin.

The limited no-trade clause so he can only be traded to KHL teams is infuriating.

Drury and his intangibles.

Goodrow has no bearing on Buchnevich by the way, That likely comes down to the 2 top 10 picks (including a 2nd overall) RW that they drafted the last years. Rangers could also sign him still as well.

The league also needs to adjust the cap to accomodate income tax - I assume the Rangers (Isles and Devils - Jersey taxes) are in the same boat when there are competing offers.

Should they readjust it for being a more desirable market as well? We don't have it bad at all, teams like Arizona, Calgary, Winnepeg, etc all have to pay more to keep players or get them to come to their market.

Barclay Goodrow is going to be a good Ranger and I am excited to add him to the core. He's going to be a great third liner and great leader with his playoff experience.

I hate what the salary cap has done to us as fans. I know we can't just ignore it, but I want to at least be excited for the player to be joining the team.

I mean if you look at it, this year they basically got him for free with the Deangelo buy out looming, The cap is almost identical

Well it's not like we were winning Cups left and right outspending every team in the non salary cap era

You guys see the post game 5 celebration on ice comment's that Cooper was saying about Goodrow?
Looked totally unsolicited.

Called him out as an absolute warrior for standing in front of Shea Webers shot. Nobody was questioning Cooper, he was wandering around the ice extolling his team as warriors. But specifically Barclay Goodrow.

It was good stuff.

I'm happily taking this guy and keepin it movin.

I do think we're a bit smarter of an organization now as opposed to then.. a non cap league might actually favor us pretty well at this point lol

A couple of my thoughts, which aren't worth much:

- I'm not a fan of trading Buchnevich. I don't think people realize how good he has become. He was 20th in the NHL at even strength points per 60 last year, which is better than any of the guys we are talking about trading him for. On top of that, he's turned into an excellent two way player. He has historically been one of our best players at driving possession and was one of the best penalty killers in the league last year. Guys who produce at a top 6 level while playing excellent possession and defensive hockey are exactly the kind of player we need to win with. At 26, Buch is just entering the prime of his career and is likely to be good for basically the entirety of his next contract. Personally, I'd rather deal Kravtsov, who I like, but I don't think is certain to ever become as good as Buchnevich is now.

- I'm also not a fan of trading Chytil. I think people are forgetting how good he was at the beginning of the season when he scored a point-per-game and was the best possession player on our team before he got injured and got covid . We saw how much covid impacted Mika and Chytil had an injury on top of that. It's tough to know how those impacted him, but it seems like there's a chance that a healthy Chytil is already the stud #2 center we're looking for and he's only 21. I wouldn't give up the chance to find that out unless we were getting paid a huge price in exchange for him. I think there's a decent chance trading him would end up being the opposite of our Mika trade.

- I'm not a fan of the Goodrow deal. Like the player, but don't like the contract or the thought process behind it. If you take the same player who won the cup 3 or 4 years ago, you are probably getting them at half the cost. Furthermore, he is not good enough to decline as he ages and still be worth an NHL spot, so the last years on that contract are going to be painful. We went through that with Staal and Girardi. At least it's not a huge AAV though.

- Not interested in Larkin. Too easy to get fleeced dealing with Yzerman. We should have learned our lesson there on the McDonagh trade.

- Some of the Eichel proposals strike me as over the top.

+ Karlsson got a top prospect (Norris), a 1st (expected to be late), 2 bottom 6 type players, a good AHL player, and a 2nd rounder
+ Stone got a top prospect (Brannstrom), a 2nd, and a bottom 6 player (Oscar Lindberg)
+ Duchene got a top prospect (Girard), a 1st (expected to be late), a 3rd, and two b-level prospects

So why would we be giving up 4 premium assets for Eichel? All the other deals were one top prospect, one high pick, and then bottom 6 players and B-level prospects / picks. Shouldn't a trade in line with historical norms be more like a top prospect (Kravtsov or one of the D-men), a 1st, and then secondary assets like some combination of a 2nd / 3rd round pick, Gauthier, Reunanen, and Pajuniemi? Especially when you take Eichel's injury history into account.

Every time he lays someone out, like Jack Hughes, or wins a fight, MSG should play Eminem - Warrior pt. 2

yeah and he didnt play on a loaded team that was 18M over the cap either

lol gimme a break. they were loaded and still went after Goodrow.

not saying that the contract isn't a little $ for my liking or that Goodrow will be a success here...

I just know teams need players like him for a reason. Sure you want to cultivate that within, but thats not aways so easy. I remember how import Prust was for the rangers, and Avery
