Sorry to say this as Pelech is on a rival but that contract is superb. It takes him through his prime and defensemen generally can stay at the top of their game longer. He plays a similar game to McDonagh

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear that name^
Mine is "ED KRANEPOOL"

They don’t really play anything alike.

he’s good, he would be good away from Trotz unlike mayfield. His ilk age terribly.

He’ll be good for the first few years but it’ll be a staalardi contract by year 4.

The only issue with the pelech extension is he's going to be 34 at the end of it but considering the cap hit, even if he takes a heavy age related dive, its still a good deal.

He's an excellent defenseman and a bargain at that price IMO

I feel like the tell tale sign Ola has not watched a player with any regularity is when he specifically comments on their skating.

Guy called Sean Day a bad skater for years.

Come on, I never called Sean Day a bad skater.

You really don’t read what I write or have that poor memory?? Not strange that I get so many odd replies.

What you surely are referring to is that I questioned that he would be in the top 1 percentile in the NHL in skating. Ie top 5-6 in the world. For someone his size he is a very good skater, but it’s nonsense to think that he is literary unique and could challenge guys like McDavis by almost any criteria and he is way way behind the midget water bug skaters when it comes to many areas. Its just 100% pure nonsense that he is like top 5 in the world not even taking into consideration his size.

This place has an archive. Check it.

Ola has specific preferences that he likes in skating
He likes quick and agile feet, changes in direction, fast all over the ice, quick acceleration.

Day is a smooth powerful skater who moves fluidly but isn't a "quick feet" and start and stop acceleration" kind of guy, which is the kind of player that Ola likes from what I can tell

He doesn’t have near the offensive game that McDonagh had/has and also every Islander seems great defensively in Trotz system.

So what have we learned today? Eichel does indeed have a Twitter account. Vogl is a dope. Valliquette won't have a Twitter account in less than 4 hours. Don't ever listen to Dom LeGrecca. Carp is still a dope.

I write a lot of dumb stuff and is probably “wrong” as often as everyone else.

But I do think that ‘great skater’ sneaks into way to many scouting reports way to easily and it just don’t translate well to NHL. Maybe I come across as overly critical for that reason, I just look at it from a bit of a critical angle.

Correct. Nowhere near McDonagh. He is a good defenseman but he scored 14 points in 56 games last year and his highest offensive output is 21 points. If he scored more like the top Dmen he would be getting 8 mil plus.

He's 32 year old McDonagh.
