It’s being discussed BECAUSE WE DONT know the medical details. But yet our team is still being asked to pay full price. You answered your own question. His injury is literally one of the most relevant stuff about this situation

As far as I’m aware the Rangers don’t have a time machine and can see how Eichel holds up in a full season post surgery. So their “due diligence” really doesn’t give me confidence atm.
[/QUOTE]

Yes that’s why it’s pointless. Nobody has any idea about it. If the rangers make the trade I am confident that they reviewed the medical reports and feel comfortable with them. Meanwhile everyone here who has not seen them will still go on about how he’s inches away from the end of his career despite having zero information that leads to that conclusion. Comparisons to bure/lafontaine don’t mean anything as medicine has advanced in 25 years and it’s not the same people in charge anyway.

Everyone is super biased too. People who want to trade for him (based on his ability as a player/fit on the team) say oh he’s totally fine the surgery has been done in MMA it’s no big deal and people who don’t want to trade for him say oh it’s never been done in the nhl before his career may be over right away. It's searching for evidence to support your preconceived notion which is almost always a bad thing.

I used to not understand why they started new threads but now i do. Its like a complete hard reset. Only madness can exist past page 50.

Come back in a few months

The other thing that keeps coming up this summer is the assured expertise of front office insiders and the Borgesian library of data they make decisions from.

Meanwhile Chris Drury runs the most valuable NHL franchise and when he's hired people point to the Little League World Series he won as a qualification...

Weird. I point to the fact that he was an assistant GM for several seasons after working his way up who was coveted for a GM role for several other teams.

Looking back at this, there are quite a few eerie parallels:

HOCKEY; Rangers Finally Make Deal for LaFontaine (Published 1997)

For all the folks who would be fine with acquiring Eichel "if healthy," bear this cautionary tale in mind. LaFontaine was declared healthy as well. His career was over 67 games later (after putting up 62 points in that span). For once, can this team learn from its history?

The scariest part of this article? The fact that it was published in my first year at college. Never read the dates under the headlines, haha.
It’s such a Rangers thing that his career ended by colliding with Keane. His own stupid teammate.

This will be an unpopular opinion here but I wouldn't hate a Gudbranson signing.

I don't mind the player, but as is we have 7 NHL defenseman already signed, 8 if you count jones, with 3-4 more in hartford close to making the jump. Seems like overkill today. Maybe after a trade.

I am always of the opinion that any NHL team should have 8-9 NHL d-men. I'd keep 8 on the NHL active roster honestly. Injuries happen

Nil-ites butts just clenched

Ha! I am thinking more about injuries. We have seen other teams have 3-4 injuries at any given time and with COVID still a thing, who knows. I'd prefer to have a couple of additional d-men hanging around for oddities than yanking young guys up and down from the AHL for small spurts.

I think thats what the hartford crew is for.

And that's true but if we look at who is going to be down there it's Schneider, Reunanen, Robertson. I think Schneider and Robertson probably need to actually stay and play big minutes. Throwing them in to the NHL wouldn't be ideal if they are struggling at the level which is possible for rookies.

Gudbranson is extremely bad. We can try and sign a cheap depth dman who is not extremely bad. Like Demers, or Hutton, or Koekkoek
Yea I think they are done getting D-men for the moment. Unless there’s an injury mid season and they don’t wanna bring up a kid I think there going with the 6 they have and Tinordi as a 7.
Unless there’s a trade on the horizon. But I think they go into camp as is and let the kids fight for a spot
