What do the fancy stats say about skjeis usage? To my eye test he’s usually out against the other teams 2nd line. Staal-Pionk taking the top competition

People keep saying this as if to absolve this team, but this was one of the reasons I gave prior to the season as to why I thought this was a bottom five team. I'm not sure why people would be surprised by this result.

When McLeod got injuried our winning streak went down the shitter.

So if Sather was still GM we would be stuck with McLord for 7 years now with 8.6m/aav

Because it screws whatever cohesiveness each of the forward lines had going. And there's not enough depth or talent to counter it. That being said I haven't liked the effort of the last few games.
 
I'm still baffled as to what happened to Skjei. Does he need a sports psychologist or something? If someone asked me who our future number 1 was before this season he would have been my number one pick. I really think the contract pressure is weighing on him and he's trying too hard to make an impact and ignoring the basics. He really has to get it together or our rebuild just got set back a year.

Depth will be an issue for a year or two. I mean we were doing ok until we lost 3/4 of our right wing depth in Buchnevich Zuccarello and Macleod(I know but he was still a Nhl right winger who was adding a spark) and then the nail in the coffin was Namestnicov. There arent too many teams that can lose that many important players and continue to win. Its compounded by the fact that 3 injured players are right wingers and now we have Chytil( who has been playing wing but not a winger) and Fast as the only Nhl RW's we have. A lot of our breakout problems were the result of our defensemen not being well supported and they we forced into bad plays by two teams in Ottawa and Montreal that really forecheck well. Having said that Skjei was beyond last night and the guys that have a complete line and that should have been a bright spot Kreider Hayes and chytil were invisible.

At this stage we certainly don't have a stable full of cream type players . Guys like Kreider can swing games like this IF they really want to get down and dirty . Couple of big hits get the blood pumping...but we seldom see it from him ...once every now and then . Every now and then is just not enough on the road .
 
You gotta bring Kravstov Panarin and a top 5 pick into this organization. Then maybe you have some elite guys to put with Zibanejad and Chytil and kreider to a lesser extent.

Howden and Buchnevich are guys that will slot behind them and be good players for you. Maybe even Vesey falls into that category if he continues to improve. Think of them more like the kadris and Kapanens.

But these are musts for this franchise. We need elite talent and it should be there in the top 6 or 7 picks this year. Up to us of course to not blow it.

That was point entering the season. This team didn't have the depth to withstand injuries. Now there are injuries and this team can;t overcome them. Whih was why I had them a bottom five team.
 
In 2020-2021 if you had this pool to pull from you’d be a very very good team. I’m also not counting returns from Hayes and Zucc in here

And now they have injuries, and they haven’t been able to withstand them, so...

Not bad at all. A top 7 pick and hopefully Gorton can get us one more first rounder via trade. Panarin will demand 9-10 million per but he should fit this team nicely.

Agreed. And then there’s a lockout and no season because the Rangers have a chance to be good classic Rangers

His contract is just another example of this team being stupid when it comes to paying players. Skjei was horrible last year too and they could have given him a bridge deal.

Edited to add: The contract does seem to be weighing on him. His head can't deal with it so far. Too much too soon and all.

Pionk will be awarded more PP1 time and get denagelos shares of Xmas.

Shattenkirk plays because he said he was sorry

Brady plays because we want to continue to lower his value until he become mike delzaster level of bad.

What happened to the effort and all that ?
