Josi would still be the best player on the Sabres

He is almost ppg at 34 years old and is a top 10D in the league.

Cost will be very high I'd imagine

If pure futures type package:

Rosen + Helenius + 2025 1st unprotected + Quinn

He’s 34.
...and has been one of the best players in the league for years. He's been a point-per-game player for the last five years, including 85 points as a defenseman last season, at age 33, still providing elite defensive play on a team that has been up and down as far as its contender status over that stretch.

If your reaction to the kind of proposal someone would put together is "that's crazy," then there's a good chance 10 teams would beat your offer. The sorts of teams most interested in adding him don't care about the future or his age. You are adding him to ensure you get him for the next four playoffs. You're less concerned about the long term.

Why would the Sabres want another offensive Dman, and a 34 yo one at that?Josi is, and has been a great player, but he is the last thing BUF needs. BUF has Dahlin, Power, and Byram, FFS.... they don't need another offensive Dman, especially one who will cost them a fortune in assets.

BUF needs a couple of solid, unspectacular, tough players who play sound defense, and a good coach. Players like Jake Middleton, Adam Lowry, maybe Whitecloud ... a guy like Boone Jenner(I know he's hurt)would be a godsend. Ruff is past his due date....BUF is going nowhere with him running things.

Josi doesn't make sense for Buffalo which already has three offensive PP qbing (potential) #1 LHD men.
So why add another one. If anything, they'd need a Pesce, Parayko-type defensive RHD.
EDIT: Quite a few people beat me to it, I just realized. Which only underlines the point.

Virtually nobody retires where they played their best days. Time to rebuild hits every franchise, and Nashville is there now. That’s not a realistic ask.
Dude...if Josi waives his NMC it would be to a team on the cusp of a cup. Which is pretty much not Buffalo anytime in his remaining career window
