Seems like ROH is scraping the bottom of the barrel because they had the Beautiful People confront Kelly Klein after the women's match. They're not high on my list of much watch so adding Enzo and Cass is their problem.
Well as I said earlier in the thread, AEW coming a long really hurt them, I mean you always had guys leaving for WWE but now you have AEW and they took the Elite, SCU and Best Friends with them. And Marty is going to one or the other the moment his contract ends. So I guess they have to try something.
The Jay White situation is interesting. They seem to have high hopes for him because they had him go over a legend like Tanahashi and if you go over his entire 2018, he really was elevated to be a top guy starting with taking the US title off Kenny and being so involved in the Bullet Club drama and in stirring up trouble within Chaos as Okada dealt with the loss of the title.
Considering they made such a big deal about Okada's long reign and all his title defenses...Kenny's reign lasted 200+ days but wasn't overly impressive in terms of who he beat. I think his moment was overtaking Okada to get the belt. He beat Ishii to get back the loss he had at G1. I never really liked that Cody was in two of the successful title defenses.
I think Tanahashi beating Kenny should've been made a bigger deal and have him hold the belt until at least MSG and have either Jay or Okada take it from him there. Jay would've done well with a long run in the NJC and he would've been legitimized if he earned his title shot rather than just challenge Tanahashi at New Year Dash.
I agree with all this. I think the fact that Gedo books two years out you had a lot of substitutions and random changes* after AEW formed and Omega (and even Beretta, seems like they had plans for him) left. The original plan was Omega-Okada to headline MSG, probably with Okada winning, as you saw Sat night. But with Kenny leaving, the belts thrown on Tanahashi as a transitional champ to get it on White and White is the Omega (Bullet Club) replacement for MSG. But like you said just have Tana lose it to White at MSG after White wins the NJCup. But I don’t think Okada was never not headlining MSG. So in that case you could have had Okada beat Tana for the title at New Beginning and then White beats him in NY or still have Okada win the cup and take it off Tanahashi at MSG, then White can win it at Dominion, but I also think they wanted a gaijin in that match and in that scenario, there’s also nothing for White to do at MSG.
*There was also obviously a reason Yujiro and Chase were on The Elite side of the Civil War, then they just were thrown back in with the OGs with open arms at NY Dash after some throw away mixup on the preshow with Page at WK. Because there was never any real resolution to that.
