Happy to have both lol

Amirov looks like he will be a star player, such a great pick. Sometimes he reminds me a EP with the puck, at certain moments.
After the draft last year they had Ian Moran (director of amateur scouting for Neutral Zone) as a guest on Spittin Chiclets. They asked him who he thought was the steal of the draft and he said Amirov to Toronto. I think he said he could be the next Kucherov. Fingers crossed!

Edit- he talks about Amirov and the Leafs around the 32 minute mark. Around the 72 minute mark Biz asks him who the biggest steal was in the 1st round and Moran didn't even let him finish the question and he said Amirov.

Has played 3 games this week in VHL with no points last week and played one game in the KHL for Ufa where he picked up an assist. Ufa is playing as we speak but he isn't playing today.

He played only 1:08 in the previous game so he got that assist in his only shift or one of his two shifts. Hopefully that doesn't mean he got injured again...

I mean that’s pretty normal for a 19 year old in Russia. They’re lucky if they get more than 1 shift a period

1 minute TOI isn't normal, that's basically 1 really long shift or 2 quick 30 second shifts essentially.

The Leafs need to take control of his development away from the KHL because they aren't helping the kid.

Leafs Prospect Roundup: Rodion Amirov is back, World Junior hopefuls, Miller and Villeneuve on a roll

Amirov’s last KHL game was September 29, where he played 11:28 against Avtomobilist. There has been radio silence regarding the specifics of the injury since then, simply speculation and vague quotes from Salavat’s head coach about an extended timeline.
Ultimately, Amirov’s spell on the shelf lasted 60 days as he made his return to game action on November 28. Salavat is easing him back into things with a short stint in the VHL, Russia’s equivalent of the AHL. Playing with their affiliate, Toros Neftekamsk, Amirov has played three games over the past week. While he did not find the scoresheet, the important aspect was simply getting into games rather than the actual outcome for Amirov. His ice-time increased game over game, beginning with 14:46 in his debut and rounding out the stint with 17:47 TOI on Thursday.
Salavat’s head coach Tomi Lamsa has already confirmed Amirov will be making his return to KHL action on Monday morning against Admiral Vladivostok.

I see for KHL regular season games the teams are allowed to dress 22 players (usually seems to be 7 defensemen and 13 forwards). So when a young player only gets a shift or two in a game presumably it's because he's the 7th defenseman or 13th forward.

I'd say to do that in the NHL except we all know teams would use those extra player slots on fighters/energy players.

From The Athletic ^

Rodion Amirov swayed from side to side in his chair and smiled slightly as he made an honest, and somewhat startling, admission.
After a 4-2 Salavat Ufa win over Admiral on Dec. 6, the 20-year-old left winger admitted that he essentially forgot what to do with the puck on his stick. Amirov’s playful comment was understandable, given that he had just finished his first KHL game since Sept. 29 after an injury.
-----------------------------------------
The Maple Leafs’ 2020 first-round pick logged a paltry two shifts in his return to the lineup, totalling 1:08 TOI. He did nab an assist on one of those shifts. The following day, Amirov was not in the lineup.
Amirov said he had returned to full health, which perhaps even raises more questions about a prospect who has had his fair share of questions asked about him since he was drafted: If he’s healthy, why isn’t he playing more? And should his lack of playing time be a concern for his long-term outlook as a Maple Leaf?
-----------------------------------------
Lamsa defended his decision to give Amirov just two shifts, saying that while he had plans to give him ice time, but “always when I decided that now he should go (on the ice), there was a penalty or a power play. So, OK, he can’t go. As an example, when we were two up, there were so many penalties so it’s so hard to come into the game in that kind of situation.”
The following game, Lamsa said he wanted to play eight defencemen and that the return of winger Teemu Hartikainen to the lineup forced Amirov out.
-----------------------------------------

This is bull. No chance he'll go back after this season.

How long is he signed for in the KHL? Rhis really couldn't be any worse for his development, the kid needs icetime.

Yeah... that's a weird one. I don't think I've seen a top KHL prospect go through that ever. I'd say it's still a decision for Amirov to get something done. Either play me or force a move to North America.

At this rate I do think he'll do what Nylander did. Play half the season overseas and then move over in January.

How long is he signed for in the KHL? Rhis really couldn't be any worse for his development, the kid needs icetime.

He's contracted with the Leafs. He was loaned there for the season instead of playing for the Marlies as part of his development. They announced his loan as soon as he signed his ELC, so it was probably what Amirov wanted.

I don't think the Leafs will loan him back next season... which seems obvious.

I've said before that lack of game time isn't always as bad as we think it is. When you're practising and training with higher level talent, you improve. An athlete's personal growth happens out of the limelight. The games are simply where the new skills are put to the test.

That all said, perhaps it's time to bring him over to play some in the AHL. He hasn't rapidly developed into some type of talent who will learn on the job at the highest level. The AHL seems about right for him to develop and grow. There will be some Russian speakers on that team to ease the transition.
